Caddo Lake - 2024 [Mystery - Time travel - Thriller] : Jio Cinema - 4/5

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-caddo.jpg

This latest offering from M. Night Shyamalan does not disappoint. It's theme is bit like the "DARK (series)" with multiple timelines and related confusions (Not too complex like Dark, but pretty good). It gets a bit confusing in the middle but all the questions have satisfying answers in the end.

Overall mystery ambiance was maintained well with good cinematography and background score. Good performance from the cast too.

I will definitely recommend it. Watch without reading any synopsis.

Don't Move - 2024 [Thriller - Serial Killer] : Netflix - 2.5/5

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-dont-move.jpg

I had high expectation from this movie as it was produced by Sam Raimi (Director - Don't breath). Though it was decent as an edge of seat thriller, I felt it lacked a good story, common sense and medical accuracy. Performance from lead acts also just decent.

Watchable

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

What's with the lack of good movies coming to the big screen for the past year or so? Usually get something watchable releasing once every couple of months, but doesn't seem to the be the case for the past year or so? Is this the effect of the writers' strike last year? Am also seeing a number of theaters in Bangalore re-releasing old movies.

Have people just stopped depending on the big screen for English-language films?

An intense drama, part court room and part family. A man falls to death and his wife is the main suspect. Their blind son is the main witness. We, like the courtroom and the people in it, become voyeurs in looking at their relationship. The movie is partly in English and partly in French.
Been wanting to watch for a long while now, finally got around to watching it today. Great performances and that iconic 'fight' scene apart, it was an extremely tame end, with no twists, no variations, no 'wow' moment in the plot. The end felt like someone snatching your dessert away when it arrives when you have been expectantly waiting for it for long.

Not much of a movie theater goer but was wondering about this as well sometime back.

Generally go to theaters to watch blockbusters if possible.

Deadpool Wolverine was a good watch and I assume Venom is good but giving that a pass.

Going to watch The Wild Robot tomorrow. The trailer looked promising while watching Transformers One with my son.

TIME CUT on NETFLIX
Another one of those Copy Paste movies disguised and packaged as a Netflix 'Original'. This one is in most parts, a copy of Totally Killer from 2023, which itself was a forgettable average flick. Nothing new to watch in this one. A mashup of the usual cliches from time travel and slasher movies. Avoid.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I watched "Venom: The Last Dance," and it’s a mediocre time filler. While there are glimpses of enjoyment, the film ultimately fails to leave a mark—skip it, and you won’t miss a thing. Marvel has watered down one of their most lethal villains "Venom", transforming him into a mere comical character, losing the edge that once made him truly terrifying.

Came in here to recommend 'The Wild Robot'. Both kids and adults will equally enjoy this less than two hour movie. There's a lot of dark humor that kids won't pick up on. The words 'death' & 'dying' are loosely thrown around a lot. But the movie's got a tight narrative based off an actual book. Plus, both the visuals and sounds are terribly amazing. Perfect movie for a family night out.

Coherence 2013

8.5/10

A mind bending film. In fact, after reading about the timeline and theories on reddit - it became even more interesting. Re-watching scenes made even more sense.

The Man from Earth 2007

8.5/10

The possibility of disproving a fact also implies a possibility of it being true. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation between the professors.

The Wild Robot:

Lovely piece of cinema. The visuals, the voice acting, the sheer ability to tug and pull at your heartstrings.

Kids loved it, wife was sobbing away and so yeah overall a good way to spend 1 and a half hours of your time.

4/5

Gosh dude, these are exactly my kind of movies! Thanks for sharing these gems. Here is my gift to you - The Substance (2024). Available on MUBI, via Prime Video app.

It's the story of a "has been" actress who is now 50 years old and past her sell-by date in the industry. She injects herself with drugs from the blackmarket and voila! Emerges a younger version of herself.

Very deep and very interesting. I'll give it a straight 5 out of 5.

The Apprentice (2024)

It is fair to say the movie just skims over the surface of Trump's shenanigans, but with it being a biographical and all, one just wonders how much of it is truth and how much based on the public's imagination as Trump himself has dismissed this film. The big question of why would Cohn would take Trump under his tutelage remains a mystery for me, but otherwise a fantastic story of "Trump" the man.

The substance 2024

A straight 10/10 for me, had me hook, line and sinker except for the last 30 minutes of the movie, which is a straight up 1/10. Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley camera work and music are all 10/10. Watch it on a big screen with lights out and turn up the volume.

Biggest loophole I found was the *main premise* of Moore's character being split into two bodies, but still of one mind, which is not the case at all.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Some old movies:

Find me guilty (2006, Prime)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419749/

Vin Diesel in a comedy role playing the role of an Italian "Mob Gangster". Based on a true story. Makes for a good watch Apparently some of the hilarious court scenes were actually true!

3.5/5

Silverado (1985, Netflix)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090022/

I have no clue how I missed this western. Beautiful movie as far as Western style movies go. If you are a fan of the Wild Wild West then this is a must watch movie.

3.75/5
