Starring Reese Witherspoon & Mark Ruffalo, this was a very good watch. Good rom-com.
After watching this, this movie came up in recommendations:

It could happen to you

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110167/

"A police officer promises to share his lottery ticket with a waitress in lieu of a tip."

Starring Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda, movie is highly rated and loosely based on a true story.

But somehow I feel the moviemaking style has not aged well and I just could not bear to stand Nic Cage's on screen wife talk. Imagine Janice in friends but with more screen time. This was worse. Maybe her character was supposed to be like it, but now I just can't bring myself to complete the movie.

Not rating it as I have not and most likely will not complete the movie.

Greedy People
OTT : STARZ
4/5

I stumbled upon this movie by fluke. I checked the trailer and it looked great.

Saw the movie and it was pretty good. This movie will remind you of FARGO and similar crime and comedy capers. This movie has heavy influence of the Coen brothers and it's pretty evident.

I like Joseph Gordon Levitt and he did a fabulous job. The Brit born Indian (Himesh Patel) was a miscast/misfit for the cop role but, his acting is ok.

This movie gives a slightly B movie vibes but, it's still a decent watch.

Without revealing the storyline, I would say it was a breeze to watch the story unfold which is full of crime and comedy mix-up and its fun to see how their entire plan gets smashed to smithereens

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) on Amazon Prime

My rating: 4.5/5

About the movie:
Quote:
After witnessing a dying man's confession hinting at a hidden treasure, a group of motorists turn against each other in their mad rush to find it.
I can't believe that this movie was made in 1963. The acting of these actors are great and the comedy is something like watching a cartoon.
Please watch it before this movie goes for rent on Amazon Prime.

This is a TRUE all time classic and one of the best mega star cast movies made in the comedy genre. One of my personal favourites from among the vintage library and worth watching over and over again. Must watch!

My rating: 4.75/5

You are right, we have similar taste in movies. I wrote almost a similar review for Greedy People as you, few pages back in this thread. This movie is available in Lionsgate Play in India.

Remember seeing this multiple times in the 2000s, not sure if it was in Star movies or some other movie channel. My kid brother and me would jump up and down with excitement during some scenes.

Guess, other people too watched it in the same time period, cause there were a few slapstick comedy movies that copied the same scenes faithfully and were released in the late 2000s, early 2010s.

Free Solo
Documentary Film, 2018
4.5/5

Free Solo is a 2018 American documentary film directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin that profiles rock climber Alex Honnold on his quest to perform the first-ever free solo climb of a route on El Capitan, in Yosemite National Park in California, in June 2017.

It's a real life story of rock climber Alex Honnold and it's about conquering fear, courage, confidence, climbing, free soloing, perseverence, hardwork and friendships.

He has co-authored a book, "Alone on the Wall: the Ultimate limits of Adventure" with David Roberts that chronicles his life including the first ever free solo climb of El-Capitan and much more.

The film is available on Amazon Prime and the book is available on Amazon

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

You're Cordially Invited This movie was released in January this year and is available on Prime Video. The cast (Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon) looked interesting, and without any research I "accepted" the Invitation. But oh my lord, if there was ever a ho-hum movie in many years, this was it. Absolutely water-thin plot (and the pun is heavily intended) , that washes over completely, leaving you with a "meh" taste in the mouth. I really don't know what were the actors doing in the movie except raving and ranting at each other. The concept is absolutely nothing to write home about, and has been done to death in various similar avatars. I didn't find anything redeeming in it whatsoever. My thoughts? 0.5/5( 0.5 if you are absolutely a die hard fan of the principal stars) . And also if you are a fan of "India's videshi jamai-raja" from the Western entertainment world. He has a 2 minute-5 word appearance that you will miss in a blink.

RIP Iceman. He starred in a pivotal role in the two military aviation movies that are for the ‘ages’, and still a benchmark for the movie theatre feel of aerial combat, to this day.
That’s more than most stars can claim. The question “Who’ s the better pilot” will remain unanswered I suppose.

While Iceman will be his most recalled role, I like him better as the Saint.
RIP Val Kilmer.

He was excellent as Iceman, but then most of his roles were played pretty well.

Ghost and the darkness is a great movie of his.

Just to add context, a 'free-solo' is climbing a rock face without ropes or any protective gear. Basically, you fall, you die. You slip, you die, a piece of rock snaps off when you grab it or step on it, you die, you step on one mossy patch, you die, a bat flies out of a crack and startles you, you fall and die.

This particular free-solo tops out at 3,300 feet. And it's no easy scramble, it's at a pretty challenging climbing grade. Almost vertical to vertical sections included. The exposure, the ability to hold his nerve for nearly 4 hours, the years spent practicing the moves using ropes and protection so that he could do it without them, all add up to make this one of the most extraordinary feats by a human.

The film won an Oscar winning Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Academy Awards

And, The Newyork Times called "one of the great athletic feats of any kind, ever".

Now, that's something!

My computer wallpaper is Alex Honnold's 'free solo' on the 'Thank God Ledge'. It's my daily dose for courage, focus and persistence.

Thank God Ledger on the North face of Yosemite's half dome is a nerve wracking 35 foot long ramp with width ranging from 5" to 12". It is approximately 1700 feet high up from the base and 200 feet below the summit.
