Absolutely lovely restoration! Kudos to the guy at the service center. :thumbs up

Reminds me of my dad's Kanchan which broke down during '99 and he switched to a no-frills Citizen quartz. I preserved the watch but the hands came off later. Shall take it to a service center and see if I can be restored when I go home next month.

This is my ADSL Automatic from HMT. The abbreviation stands for

Automatic
Date
Stainless steel
Leather

( I think!) :)

Thanks poloman - what a find. My wallet just lightened!

I got a defective factory piece from Flipkart and returned it back...felt really bad! The case was unevenly finished and looked ugly.

Sorry for that. I think these are factory rejects. All the better finished ones are usurped by few dealers who then sell those for premium to domestic and international consumers. I think ebay is a better place to buy HMT watches, though sold at a premium.3 out of 4 purchases turned out good.
Finally got a original HMT Janata which I longed for long. These are extremely rare and difficult to find nowadays.

The black dial is the oldest HMT Pilot, dating back decades. I bought mine four years ago. It is non-functional now due to a broken main spring.

Got this Pilot and my wife's Deepti deluxe hand wind repaired at the hmt shop. Both watches had broken springs and the total repair cost came to Rs 480.00.

They have only the white Pilots now. Janata is available. The new skeleton watch recently introduced has not yet reached them, though they have indented for it.

I am not too fond of the Janata. Bought one earlier with the Pilot, but got bored after a while and gave it away.

Got myself a Casio Edifice Analog + Digital combination watch as below. It did cost me 6400/-.

Surprising that the cost hasn't changed.
I got this one 2 years back for almost the same price. +/-Rs.200.

Seems that the Edifice series is holding its value pretty good. The same watch was 250/- cheaper online but then wanted to see how it fits my wrist and how it looks.

HMT seems to be really down in the dumps. I went in search of the Chennai hmt store after a four year gap, to repair my Pilot. But it was nowhere to be seen. The neighboring shops said it had been closed a year ago.

Later I was alerted by a forum member of WUS that it is now located near the CMBT. Went there and found it after great difficulty. Compared to the previous prominent location, floor area and number of staff, the present store is pathetic. Not on the main road but in a small by lane, with no frontage. Nobody will know it is there unless he has the address and is looking for it. There was one manager and one sales staff. There was no watch collection to speak about. Just two small counters, displaying about fifty pieces in all.

Pilot watches are not on display. If you ask for them, they bring them from inside. They had only white ones and I was unimpressed.

Why are hmt watches not stocked in any of the prominent watch stores? Any idea, anyone?

Has anyone got mechanical watches from Titan and Timex? They are elaborate designs and I believe with the Chinese Sea-gull movements.

The HMT family. My personal favorite is the Janata on the right

Hey guys. I got this watch from my father a while ago and recently went to have it repaired, only to be told that its a mechanical movement and works as good as new. Can someone point out something about this watch?

Its a Favre Leuba 3515-42 from the looks of it, but does this have any value?

Here are the watches I use interchangeably. I bought them over a period of 15 years. The Timex one being latest bought at discount at around Rs.4900 (List Price was ~ Rs.6100).

That's a nice watch!:thumbs up
Yes, Favre Leubas are usually collectibles. FLs have been quite popular in India, right from British era to mid 80s.Titan acquired Favre Leuba AG in 2011.
