My Alpinist - the original SARB017, is paired with a Strapcode Oyster bracelet and looks and feels like a perfect alternative to a Rolex Explorer or Oyster perpetual case .The fit, finish and dial beauty on the Alpinist is absolutely stunning, especially when you consider the price of 400 USD odd that I picked it up at back in 2017. Fits and feels lovely on the wrist.

The green Dial Alpinist with steel bracelet but without compass function is the one I bought. Roughly for the same reasons as you mentioned. Its a beauty. Never fails to delight when worn.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Listening to all weight related discussions - can experts please suggest if Tudor Pelagos 39 is a good buy for a first-time Tudor buyer? I want one Tudor in my collection and wanted to check out the Monochrome but it will probably be a bit large for my wrist. The 39 is super light at around 115gm and I really like the fit on my wrist. I am particularly fond of Divers so should I go for it or wait for a few years to go for my all time favourite Omega SM 300?

P.S: My Rolex/Tudor AD came back to me with a pretty good deal on the 39.

Re: Which watch do you own?

The point is not total weight of a watch. What is important is that where is that heft located or concentrated. The Argos has this problem with the case being extremely light. To the extend that it feels hollow. Even touching the case feels a bit weird. As if it's hollow.
Now ofcourse the expectations went up with those amazing CG images which looked impeccable.
But then pricing is such that this kind of expecting is not warranted frankly. It's a 10K to 12K watch. That's it.

I prefer some weight to the case. Makes me feel good. However the Argos is now at 7920/- which is a very nice price for a pretty good looking watch.

Re: Which watch do you own?

The Argos is also keeping pretty good time. It's about half a minute fast over one and a half days now.

By the way, just checked the SARB017 Alpinist weight. It weighs in at 78.1 grams with the original leather strap.

Please weight the argos with the leather strap. It'll be informative. Also the aplinist which comes now is heavier than the older one considerably it seems.

Buy one. Try it. And then you can post a review too. It'll be good for these new manufacturers.
I already have a couple of points for them.
1. Case needs to be heavy.
2. Quality needs to be there. The glass feels like it's plastic.
3. The movement needs to give atleast more than 24 hours of power.
4. The communication with the customer needs to be prompt and clear. If you don't have an SKU or a particular part then they need to inform the customer timely with clear timelines. They were extremely slow in responses and I wasn't even informed where my watch and strap was until 2 weeks and only after multiple mails they started responding and then shipped the watch.
5. They need to make that case curve. Yes there are designs which are flat too but they're not this long. The fit would have been so much more comfortable had the case curved at the lug areas.

Just picked up mine while again typing this. I cannot pinpoint but there is something about it which just isn't as inviting as others.

Definitely not asking for exact wait times. Nobody can give us that information.

Here's a Link to a used Submariner. However, looking for one with a green dial. Yes, goes by the name Hulk

Got it.
In this case I think if anything this might be equal to or worst availability than the regular Submariner. Post my purchase the sales person got more comfortable with me, or rather I made it so, one of the things he dilvulged was simply that the Submariner is almost zero chance for a walk-in. They will be reserved for existing clients.
These guys will definitely put your name down but as I mentioned a few posts ago, the priority will be existing clientele, and that a heirarchy exists within that as well.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I got my Apollo III delivered in 5 days. The packing quality for dispatch and transit purposes was exemplary, to international standards. Ordered it last Friday, received it on this Wednesday. So, dispatches must be dependent on availability of the particular colour / strap combination . They must be doing well, because my watch shop owner said that he had done bracelet adjustments for quite a few people here in Pune.

And now they have an Argos Olympus model on pre-sale. A different movement with a seconds hand at the 9 'o' clock position, a power reserve indicator at approximately 5 'o' clock position and a date window at 3 'o' clock.

The glass doesn't seem to be plastic. There is a blue tinge / halo around bright tubelight reflections which suggests some anti reflective coating also.

Regarding the curved lugs, I already have mentioned it earlier. Curved lugs would be better.

If you observe the interiors of the movement, you will notice that the movement is housed in a plastic housing ring instead of metal. This might be contributing to the perceived lower weight. I say perceived because the weight / heft is an individual's choice and not defined anywhere. I, for one did not find any issue with the weight.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Oh well. As you said, not just weight or heft, even watches and all aspects are very personal or individualistic in nature.
I didn't like like argos as a watch and didn't like their service either. It was never about the delay. It was the lack of communication regarding the delay.
Never the less hope you have a wonderful ownership of the Argos. I don't see myself getting into the Argos bandwagon anytime soon unless they come up with something better in my terms of quality standards.

Re: Which watch do you own?

In 2002, when I completed Diploma in Mechanical engineering, I did a job for a year. During completing Diploma in SVCP, I had a close friend who bought Fastrack. I too on a meagre salary of Rs 5000, bought a Fastrack for Rs 1400, which was a shock for my family. But I used that watch for close to 12 years. Later I had 2 other Titans which were not that special. My brother who went to UK, gifted me Fossil Grant Skelton. Its good, but heavy and bit bigger for my wrist size. This is my daily wear.
My wife, on knowing my love for watches gifted me Seiko Presage SSA441J1 Grasshopper which is a beauty.

Couple of years down the line, I would definitely like to purchase Casio GMW B500D someday as my daily wear.

I haven’t weighed the Alpinist. But I wore it today all day and its size and ‘heft’ is perfect. In fact it really is Seiko’s answer to the Rolex Explorer 1.

Re: Which watch do you own?

My recently acquired San Martin diver, a homage to the Rolex Submariner starbucks. It's got a Seiko NH35A movement, and keeps time accurately, +/- 5 seconds so far. It is 200 meters WR. Have cleaned the aquarium and showered so far, and no water ingress. Have heard it holds up at snorkeling depth as well.
