I kinda find this ridiculous. Shelling 30k for a stupid number sounds even more so. But then its not my money so whatever rocks people's boats :-)

I guess it is more like a statement where your car number tells who it belongs to..... like someone says "all my cars are [9999]". You actually find a lot of guys like that here in TN. I think 9999 is the most sought after number. Ask our CM if you have doubts.

You might get lucky with the number...
Got the number 8700 for my Matiz(now sold) at no cost !
Now spent 500 bux for # 9080 for my Accent. And that's the max I'll spend for a number ! Actually it all depends on the district where you're registering.

If one could transfer a no between cars or people, then it would be a different ball game

my bro-in-law is a number freak and also changes his car atleast once a year and all his reg numbers are with 9999, he does not buy a car unless he has that number.

he owns 2 cars at any given point of time, one for his wife and the other for himself and both have 9999.

all his past cars, and all is company cars have the same reg number..

I personally feel spending all this hard earned money on numbers is stupid. Imagine what you can do with 20K... Buy a new set of tyres? Set of alloys? Music system?Take your pick. Of course if you are rollin' in dough then it's another matter.

Nopes. its not ridiculous. Just a matter of personal choice. Read in papers once that a Sardar in UK paid almost 5 lakhs for the regn S1KH5. Nothin ridiculous abt that. And he didnt even own a car at that time.

In India, gettin these numbers is just a craze. But abroad people buy them even if they do now own a car. Its kind of an investment. They auction it at a later time for almost double the price.
