Guys,
I totally agree that making an ad mocking the wildlife is surely not in good taste for a respectable company.

But let me bring up one point, you guys talking so much about this ad itself actually increases the brand-recalls of such ads and this in fact means the ad is successful. Remember brand-recall is key work for marketer than brand appeal.
Remember even negative marketing is marketing at the end of the day

The best way to show angst towards and ad is to blandly ignore it. Remember the worst effective ads are the ones which are least discussed.

I don't know about elderly, But my little daughter is a big fan of Polo ads specially the ostrich one. Other than occasional Safari ad, can any one specify a good out of box auto ad we have seen in the recent past? Now a days even movies come with the tagline leave your brains at home and enjoy the movie. So don't take things so seriously.
Well said Xingy,
VW has already succeeded in the ads as is evident from the 6 pages discussion we are having here.
Regarding smiley, Do you mean to say beating a dead horse is acceptable even if it is representation of popular idiom?

Poloman, you are unbelievable! VW is blessed to have a loyalist like you.

For heavens sake, please understand the reason why this thread is running to 6 pages. This is not a, "Wow what an ad!!" thread;it's an "eek what an ad?" for most of them

I feel the Optra is the best Automobile ad in Indian history. So nice, so Elegant. I also love the Hamara Bajaj ad.

VW: Make such simple ADs involving the CAR and HUMANS.
Why think of disturbing the animals.

Kiku I am not a VW fan, I have been their bitter critic for the delay in Polo deliveries. 'eek' or 'wow' what matters is brand recall.
Sorry DRIV3R I am not a fan of the Linea ad you mentioned. I find it too bland and straightforward. Blame it on my personal taste.
Sanjay,Our culture is to show respect for the dead.sorry for going off topic.

Latest Docomo ad "the job is yours" - now that's what humor is supposed to be.

I fully support Shankar on this. A company like VW should not have made such a add. And about the ostrich egg ad, VW wants to make us belive that it has such ground clearence that the egg is not touched, but how can we forget Huge speed breakers present on bangalore roads? It clearly means VW has not got the real indian picture, Germany roads may be like that not Indian. And the car is a super flop on road, when I first saw it, it reminded me of the old palio design. And for such a flop car they are asking 6 months waiting time and at a price for which even a dead horse will laugh. And the tag line is so studip " Our guys have tested it so you don't need to, then will the car fly when some one will drive it? It has to be tested each and every day on road otherwise what is the handling and ride quality for

On the same scale of objections here against humor, there must have been morchas taking place against another Docomo ad "Veriii Nayce" from a mom to her daughter with Tattoo on her hind-side.! The presentation itself was vulgar. Why Not? Will that ad not inspire your daughter too to try the same with her mom? How 'socially responsible ad' that is?
Come on guys, we take humor when we want to and throw it when we don't.?

Surprising to see people this disturbed over an advert.

No one is actually gonna go enter a sanctuary, find the meanest Rhino and blow a horn in its face. I have been a very passionate wildlife lover all my life, but this in no way hurts them.

And if someone does have the number of marbles required to do what is advised, I doubt he would need an advert to instigate him into doing what he would.

C'mon guys, it isn't that big a deal. I like the cinematography too!

PS: I don't even like the Polo or the Jetta or the Passat... So I am not a VW loyalist.
