No certainties in cricket; all I said today was that if we now lose with a lead of 180ish, our spinners are as vastly overrated as our batsman are as masters of spin.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Whatever we get, if we bowl well, we should be in the game. We have to take cues from the first innings and hope some luck comes our way

Else, I am mighty impressed with Aussies, they have done, what we do to other touring teams.

@Sawyer : Don't think our spinners are vastly overrated, Aussies have played well, while Indian batsmen have clearly not thought this through. Then there is also the case of fatigue setting in - not sure about it though, it has been a long season.

Edit:
Target of 188 - I would have taken it yesterday. Can we bowl well and can the Aussies wilt? (like so many touring teams); if they don't, then Aussies will win. It's more of a mental game now with the score we have, rather than talent or anything.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If we lose now, I will still maintain that our spinners are vastly overrated.
Let's see what they do now to live up to their reputation; this isn't a score chased down very often against India in India.

Yes. That will be the 5th highest if achieved.

Kohli's captaincy will be tested! We need to hold onto the catches, can't afford to drop any.

This isn't an ordinary team either (the Aussies I mean)

Re: The Cricket Thread

No, but it is far from the great Waugh/Ponting led teams. How many tests did this team lose in Asia before they won in Pune?

We should not call it extraordinary just to keep calling our spinners the same. Great spinners are those that win against extraordinary teams.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Maybe it's just me but I think this total is just too low to expect an Indian victory.
Yes, it may still be a close game but the Aussies should get the runs for a win in the end.

*A crazy fan at home is very confident of an Indian win

It won't even be close; they'll canter to a win easily. As Sawyer said, our spinners (too) are quite overrated.

Cheers,
Vikram

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am not sure about cantering away, but I can't see a win. Our bowlers don't look the part.

Re: The Cricket Thread

All those "blind" Indian fans who were crying foul about Virat Kohli's dismissal and saying that Benefit of doubt should go to Batsman always...Will be silent on Warner's dismissal now

I hope you are watching the match. I don't know how much more effort you want from them. They are giving up everything to win.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I do want them to win; and they may well do so now.
But it isn't because of just effort, it will be effort, ability, brains and mental strength that will make it happen. That is why few sports match up to Test Cricket at its best.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Top level of Cricket being witnessed.

I remember Michael Slater arguing with Dravid IIRC even though he was 100% wrong.

Then infamous Sydeny test.

Today Smith blatantly looking towards dressing room for review.

All that shameless incidents are against the spirit of the game but Aussies give two hoots to all this as long as they win.

At the other spectrum is WI who offend none with there antics and make for a good viewing with their carnival type celebrations. Remember their two T-20 victories.

But at the same time we should thank Aussies for their intense rivalries with almost every team they play against. Be it ENG, SA, WI, NZ, IND, PAK, SL. No other teams manage that.
