I still buy used cars for sales staff and worker moment, but I have limited myself to a few brands basically Ford, Toyota and Tata.
I don't mind spending Rs 500 to take the car to a wheel alignment center before finalizing.
Body repairs are visible to experienced eyes, the engine sound and feel gives away the repairs done there.
Wheel alignment is the only way we know about under body and structure damage.
Some years ago my second Innova met with an accident, the dealer (DSK Toyota)wanted to change chassis ladder, insurance surveyor was refusing.
I went to the service center with both body shop in charge and surveyor, told the incharge to strip all front panels such that I see only engine on the chassis. Then pushed the car upto alignment pit and checked the alignment as it is , and again weighed down by keeping material on the front end.
The alignment was correct, which meant damage to chassis had not carried on upto any mounting points, both the body shop in charge and surveyor also liked the idea, and added that to their check list.
