No, there is no speedo error, I keep traveling to Chennai twice a month and I hit 210kmph at many instances. But car feels very airy and scary at that speed!!

How can you be so sure that your speedo is perfect?
Most of the stock speedos have some kind of error present and it is normal to expect it.

would a electronically speed limited merc or beemer do 10-20kmph extra if its made to drive an extra mile or so on a slope?

edit: working late and hence thinking a lot!

160 in my palio 1.6 on ORR, was trying to put things in perspective for an annoying esteem, was not even pushing it, no redlining or anything, tacho was reading something like 4800rpm

With a bit of assistance from the wind, a downward sloping terrain (and some fertile imagination?) I guess this is possible.

C'mon man rks - this isnt a super santro. Its a diesel truck. And its hardly what one might call aerodynamic. Any gains you get from your tyre pressure may be negated if one uses the wiper or the co-passenger burps.

200 km/h on the bandra reclamation road on an '88 CBR 600 Hurricane.

Well, if you were accelerating downhill, using the engine's power wholly, till 248 kmph (the limited top speed), the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) will send a signal to the ECU, cutting fuel/ignition, until you reach below, say 240. The Indian Vtec does the same at 185 (true speed) and cuts off till you reach 180 again.

The question is, if you accelerate till 247 kmph, and then go downhill with your foot off the gas, will you cross 248? No, because engine braking will slow you down instantly. However if you shift to neutral, yes, you will.

edit: studying late and thinking a lot of useless things!

The recommendation to increase tyre pressures when driving at high speeds (especially at full load) is not just for performance, but also to ensure that the tyre does not get overheated due to excessive sidewall deformation. If one is consistently hitting high speeds with low tyre pressures, the tyre life will come down and the danger of tyre burst is higher.

Power boosters supply compressed air into the engine. They are added inside the air intake vent of the engine. You get increased the output power by 5-10 BHP (not sure on the figure, but definetley notice the difference) with a little hole on FE. Cost me 800 each, for two. I heard from MAS that we get two for Esteem and zen engine and one of M800 & family.

One benefit i see is that i can cruise along in 5th where i had shift to 4th earlier. Also with AC, the pickup is good.

hmmm....i touched 135 K yesterday at Sikar bypass in Rajasthan in my 97 Esteem and it started to wobble..the road was visible for several kilometers in the bright sunlight and was as good as a runway...

PS : got the balancing done, alignment of all four tyres, got front tyres changed yesterday evening only.

Btw, what is the maximum a stock Carb esteem can hit ?

NMA, just curious as to how you determined it was 122 & not 125 - or 120?
