I'm sorry I think it was the Waja not the Wira . You are right I've seen the Satria's zooming on the KLIA expressway's. I've got shaken off the fast lane by zooming Porsche Cayennes and the beamers who I guess would be doing > 200 on those roads and probably are happy to pay the 300 RM fine if they are caught on the speed cam's

Personally i feel Proton makes crappy cars. Right from 15 odd years ago when they made the proton saga (my family's from malaysia). however saying that and now contradicting myself their new range of cars seems to be quite asthetically pleasing now !!

Whew

Here's my humble list:

1. Not the fastest, but certainly the most fun: 160kmph in a Zen on the expressway... The needle actually went below the 0 of the 160 on the dial..... Lol, so I can say that I have driven a car off the speedo.....

2. 160 kmph in an Esteem on the expressway

3. 120 mph in a Honda Accord on the motorway between London and Stansted..... Only did it cause my friend, who was with me at the time, knew where the speed cams were......

4. 140 kmph in a Qualis on the expressway..... This one's another funny story..... The speed had maxed out at 130 for about 2 kms...... Speedo refused to go further until we came to a little dip, and then it went up to 140..... lol......

5. 155 kmph on Marine Drive between the Aquarium and the fly-over...... Had to slow down within seconds cause this was at 3:30 in the afternoon on a working day..... This one was fun......

That's about it.....

The folowing are the speedo indicated speeds (speedo error would reduce these by approx 5 %) tha tI have achieved on my cars over the years

Premier Padmini- 105 KPH
Maruti 800 (non-AC)- 120 KPH
daewoo Matiz- 115 KPH
maruti zen MPFI- 135 KPH
hyundai Accent GVS- 165 KPH
ford ikon flair- 145 KPH
tata indica LSI- 145 KPH
tata indica turbo- 120 KPH (still a new car so havent maxed it out yet- at 120 kph, it was running at 3700 RPM in 5th. still had approx 100 rpmto go so i guess going by the gear ratios, should mah out at app. 150)

Non-Indian car- toyota supra turbo- 235 KPH on the expresway between singapore and malaysia.

I suppose you are talking about the Santro Xing? Which model? On level road or on a slope?

My top speeds:

(1) 125 kmph on Maruti 800 (1995 model, non-AC)

This on the Bangalore-Mumba NH-4. Could have done more, but didn't feel safe.

(2) 158 kmph in my Santro LS (ZipDrive, 1 lit, Dec. 2000 model)

The Santro handled the speed superbly. That said, I have not driven the more fancy cars at higher speeds.

This was on a slightly sloping stretch on the Mumbai-Pune expressway (on which I travel every week), with AC switched off, full throttle, with rubber floor mat removed. I am able to *routinely* exceed 150 kmph in my old Santro just about every week, with AC on!! Wonder if this has something to do with engine tuning? I did crib to the service guy about the poor pick-up very early on, during the free service stage, and he said he would tune the engine for more power. The mileage is only about 11-12 kmpl (approx.), with AC on. The other factors for top achievable speeds may be road conditions (slope, grip, etc.) and wind assistance.

I plan to try to hit 160 kmph on my next trip this Friday (17 Feb). Was thwarted by traffic in my previous attempt. Incidentally, I have done the distance of about 167 kms from Sion, Mumbai to Kondhwa, Pune in a best time of 2 hours flat (7-45 Am to 9-45 AM) in my old, but beloved Santro!! I take the slightly longer route by passing through Sion-Ghatkopar-Vashi, (rather than through the traffic-prone and signal-plagued Sion-Chembur-Vashi) and bypassing Pune city altogether via Kateraj-Satara Road-Bibewadi-Kondhwa.

Do you speed-maniacs have better timings for the Mumbai-Pune route in your fancy cars? I cover the 94 km distance on the Expressway in about 50 mins. I bet I could shave off at least 15 mts if I had a car that could do 180 kimph.

Regards, rks
