Spotted this S500 near Palika Bahvan Complex. It's fitted with a after market 18'' alloys & was also having an old series regn no: that too in black plate.

Judging by the paint shade, it had a fender bender at some point

Now thats a sight for sore eyes....a true German beauty! But the car is far from perfect:

1. Alloys are a total misfit for the 140. I love 5 spokes but not on the 140.

2. Colour mismatch between the door and the fender. Bad repair job.

3. That stick (dont know what its called) just above the headlight looks atrocious!

i love the 140 and the 500 and the 600 are beauties i would love to have. this one on the other hand with the wheels and the flag post on the fender are a definate no no. this car is best when left untouched.
yes like pointed out the car must have had a repair job done and no importance given to detail.
GTO palika bhavan is a place where cars come for garage work and once completed due to lack of space are parked on the road. my guess is this car was waiting delivery.

This was having some power window work. At first I couldn't snap it as the mechanic was on work. Later when I was returing I took this snap. As said by both Speedy & GTO, the position of Flag post is wrong. I should between the side indicators & front wheel arches. The wheel also look Odd for 140, I love the standard wheels in it.

My heart went out to this W140. Lying neglected and past it's prime, is there anyone who'd get her back to glorious days?

It ain't no ordinary W140 either. This is the big daddy of 'em all : A V12 S600!

There ought to be a law against the neglect of such superlative machines.

Oh GOD, so sad to see that one. If the owner don't need it, then let him sell it or atleast gift to some one whos interested. Why should he keep it so neglected!

The W140 is the most expensive car to bring back to life, a friend spent Rs. 1 lac just to get the A/c repaired. This one will leave a deep hole to bring back. I am sure the owner must have left it as is because some really critical part must be bust, the value of which may be far more than the resale/market value of the car. Not to mention the paint seems damaged/cracked at several areas ( she seems to also have an overcoat over the orignal factory paint), and the most critical rubber biddings also seems cracked. She could be a great/fantastic parts car. Sad state though

GTO my heart goes out too for this car. I have a feeling that since these were direct imports at the time there could be issues regarding the custom duties and other paper work. Parts can be brought from anywhere so that would not be the issue. I also think the owner could be stuck on a price and no takers to buy the petrol guzzler. Which area was this car in? we might find a new home for this beauty. There were two w140 S600's for sale one found a home and the other did not, so maybe this is that car. It was in bad shape too.

You may have hit the nail right on the head. Repair / restoration costs could be a multiple of its present market value. And the S600 V12 ain't no economy-hatch when it comes to maintenance!

I doubt it's got anything to do with paperwork. Belongs to a well-known Parsi industrialist family.

The green one? Did it sell for 11 lakhs eventually?

GTO now I got the picture this one was a slightly lighter gold purple color I know this car she was maintained (owner must have spent as much as it costed new on upkeep) at Tata's Modern garage, no costs were spared on her but boy did she have problems her entire wiring was short at one point and I think they did some stopgap exercise which did not workout as mentioned before she has been recoated without complete scrap down. This car has had so many parts changed in it I have lost count, the owner has a W126 which his wife uses mostly and that still remains in the family I think but this one had been a complete black out sadly. Tough call on putting her together better as a parts car at best she just had to much bad luck compared to similar S600's I know. Mind you she was regularly used from 1997/98 when bought till a year ago! so not like she was in one place.

By the way if you are talking about a certian sea blue S400 (few in india) in mint condition she went to the south for a handsome amount much above the going rate for these I drove her few weeks ago and fell in love unfortunately I don't own HPCL/oil wells or don't know any shiekhs who will adopt me
