Going by your riding requirements (ride style and bike weight), back issues and the fact that probably TN has a lesser tax structure than MH; keeping service costs and reliability/comfort in mind - in my view, Honda CBR 650R > Ninja 650. The N1000 is heavier amongst your options. Test ride both the bikes and see which 'connects' with you.

Yes after getting inputs from our members here even I am now tilting towards the CBR 650R. Ninja 1000 is definitely not right for me.

Test ride is not an option. I'll just go by ownership reviews and other rider inputs. They are too far away from me plus Honda never gave test rides for their 650R.

I never test rode the RR310 before purchase as well, since it was the first batch bike too.

I think you will find the Honda rather anemic at slower speeds and in tight technical twisties, of-course, that is in comparison to what else is on offer. I'd rather have the Ninja 1000 than the CBR650R.

Well considering the unmentionable speed policy on the forum, I will extrapolate that to mean being able to ride at a safe speed and overtake illegally fast cars in a safe manner with speeds being what they are on the Bangalore - Chennai highway. I highly doubt you will find the Street Triple, Z900, CBR650R or pretty much any other midrange to be lacking in that department.
BTW, who told you that the Striples are ballistic in the lower revs? It is the mid range and top end that they come alive. Their top end isn't as good as a 600cc super sport, but its blazing fast never the less, and their mid range is far better.

If I were you I'd take a long look at what it is you are after. The CBR650R is great if you want to do a lot of touring reasonably comfortably on long straight tarmac with bulletproof reliability and low maintenance. For anything else, it falls short. No offence to anyone who owns one.

I just got a warning from GTO for mentioning those speeds, so I am going to refrain from such posts hereafter as I am seriously a very sedate rider. I just ride occasionally fast, in my case that's like just once a year or whenever I feel like.

Anyways the 650R does the ton in just 4 seconds flat. For me that is more than enough grunt in the lower end and for city riding. The Ninja 1000 is too big for me, I don't think I will be comfortable with it.

I don't think ton speeds from standing in ideal conditions make much sense to in the real world. Torque and Power curves have a lot more impact on how you can tractor out of a corner or overtake someone on the highway. The faster you can overtake the morons on our highways, the safer you are, IMHO. Unless the lack of a fairing is a deal breaker, I highly suggest you look at the Z900 and Striple. Both perform better in the real world than the CBR650R and the Z900 especially has a lot more useable torque. Then there is the chassis and agility factor, that you really need to experience either in a ZX6R or a Striple. As far as the size of the Ninja 1000 is concerned, check one out in person if you haven't. It is actually quite compact and comfortable.

Like I said, anaemic is in comparison to what is available today. Doesn't mean its terrible. Everything from a Duke 390 up has plenty of grunt to be fun.

stanjohn123, just to summarize the different points

- Since you like the supersports looks but have a bad back, your options are down to the Ninja 650 and CBR 650 with the Honda having a slightly sportier seating posture while being more expensive.

- Both are very good bikes and are a clear step up from your RR 310.

- The reason other forum members are suggesting more powerful bikes like the Street Triple and the Z900 is that you mentioned you might occasionally indulge in high speed riding. These will give you brutal acceleration and the ability to reach high speeds as well. If this is not that much of a priority, dont think about them, get the Ninja 650 with your eyes closed.

- Windblast on the naked bikes is there for sure when compared to a faired bike but if your high speed runs are only in short bursts and you have a decent screen on, then it isnt an issue. Just tuck in a bit and enjoy the ride.

- Pre covid, pre-owned Street Triple 765 S were available for around Rs 7 - 8 L. For the RS, I would say likely in the Rs 10 - 11 L range.

- All said, the Ninja 650 is likely your best bet but you might have to sacrifice some top end fun and games.

Considering requirements put by stanjohn123, your suggestions are logical.
You know I own a STriple RS currently and had the old gen Ninja650 in the past. Yes, STriple is crazy, but I will never call Ninja 650 as boring (except for the excess kerb weight of the old gen models). It can get you to crazy speed in no time and I was scared to use the full power of it. I have even ridden CBR650 on the highway. It is also a rocket with much smoother engine. Of course this is my opinion and others can have different thougts on this. Highly subjective, isn't it ?

In fact I know two Ninja 650 owners who also have liter class SBKs in addition. They never sold the 650 as they still have lot of fun with it. Of course the bigger bikes will be far more brutal, but it does not mean that 650s cannot be enjoyed.

The on road price in Kerala for the new BS6 Ninja 650 is Rs 8,25,000. So the Karnataka prices will be pretty close to that since the road tax is similar in both states.

I'm guessing the Booster pack schemes will start in a few months time.

I already shared on road price in Bengaluru for the same. Comes to 8.07 lakhs on road. Please refer post #21 of this thread

Karnataka also has a cess on road tax ... so effectively we pay 19.98% which is very close to KL
