Please see if your dealer is taking a free ride on your money

re: Ducati Monster 796 Vs Yamaha FZ1 EDIT - Bought A Red Monster

Guess what. The Gurgaon dealer called me last week and told me the shipment that my bike was a part of was delayed. He said that one red Monster was available in the Ahmedabad dealership though, and he would speak to them and i could buy it from there and he would register it in Gurgaon for me. The quote came back from Ahmedabad for Rs30k more than what it was in Gurgaon (due to taxes in Gujarat) plus around 5k more for transportation. I told them, 'no thanks'.. you can imagine how angry i was. I had paid Rs2 lakh as a down payment, was given a formal letter saying my bike would be delivered by the 15th of March (which was more than a months wait), and then this. I wonder if Ducati is at all serious about the Indian market?? At the moment i will take my money back, and then see whether i still want a ducati..
A seriously unhappy biker!

Logistic delays are understandable, but Ducati should have freighted the bike to Gurgaon for you at no extra charge.
All fingers pointing to the FZ1. Just last evening someone mentioned to me that Yamaha are even offering test rides for the FZ1, take a shot Shayne.

re: Ducati Monster 796 Vs Yamaha FZ1 EDIT - Bought A Red Monster

Thanks Manson, Ducati is freighting a bike from Bangalore, but at my expense. Have agreed even though this would end up costing me around 22k more, but would mean i get my hands on it before the end of the month. The Gurgaon dealer says he has no idea when he might get another consignment, which i find quite amazing. How do they plan on selling these bikes when they don't have any to sell?!
Anyway, forget all this, am going to concentrate on the good things!

Hey Dude!
Its nice to know that you're getting it shipped from Bangalore.
Don't worry too much, things like this happen. People are made to wait for weeks post promised delivery even for petty Indian cars. Yours is something which is exotic and rare.
Wait it out... I am sure the patience will be worth it.

Meanwhile, I checked out the 796 in the Mumbai showroom. I could never tell from the photos that the tank is so HUGE! Once I sat on the bike.... OH MY GOD! (Janice style).

I am facing the exact same dilemma right now, trying to decide between a 796 and a FZ1. Don't want to open another thread for this though.

re: Ducati Monster 796 Vs Yamaha FZ1 EDIT - Bought A Red Monster

the Ducati Monster 796 is 9.8 Lacs on road in Mumbai. They are saying 45 days for delivery, which may not be a very dependable commitment.

I feel there isn't much of a difference, how much is the difference in the cost?
If you going by numbers , fz1 is 150 ps

@ Shayne..... Congrats on your buy. You wont definetly regret your desicion & welcome to the Monster Clan. Get ready for all the attention & comments from people on seeing the monster. Where as the Drive is concerned, In city limits its with without a doubt one of the best SBK to ride.

re: Ducati Monster 796 Vs Yamaha FZ1 EDIT - Bought A Red Monster

Hi guys,

guess what call i got in the middle of the working day? My red Monster came calling! All the way from Bangalore in the back of a truck, delivered by Blue Dart! Unfortunately could not take delivery today, for many reasons, so had to be content with taking a few pictures
Will take delivery next monday or tuesday, until then she will sit in the blue dart yard, hopefully safely..

re: Ducati Monster 796 Vs Yamaha FZ1 EDIT - Bought A Red Monster

Congrats shayne! Worth the wait I say.

Yesterday I had a first close up look of the Monster at the yet to be opened Ducati showroom in Bangalore. They were ready to be delivered so did not get to touch or sit or start. But boy what a presence it has! It sure is a head turner. When I was just looking at it, there were a few babes who crossed the road (Lavelle road) to check it out . But what surprised me is how compact is the machine. It somehow looked smaller in real than the pictures. It reminds me of those clinical short, squat well built wrestlers who are ready to take on...well sorry bad analogy.

Enjoy the ride mate! And please keep the thread updated through your reviews and A.S.S experience!
