9:45 A.M: Called Nitrous and told him I'd be coming along shortly. Hotrod turns up at my place, all ready and raring to go. I finish my lunch, and we set off at a brisk pace.
10:15 A.M: We arrive to find Nitrous, headers, and mail4ajo doing what TBHP-ians do best: peeking into a car's engine (in this case it was Nitrous's Ikon)
Anyways, we introduced ourselves, and the members started pouring in!! slipstream, hianoo, supremebaleno, manx, 5u3zero, ksethuram, neoranjit, madan, venkatesh, and jakesride. 15 people had turned up!!! Awesome!!
So we hang around for a while, check out 5u3zero's awesome Palio. Its got a super ice setup (I dont know ANYTHING about ICE, but it sounded damn good, and looked pretty nice too!! And it seems to have won awards too......respect). His car also had engine mods, and when he blipped the throttle, the sound coming out of that custom-made freeflow was bliss!!!
Then there was headers's Gypsy, slipstream's superbly-maintained Maruti 1000 ( Someone spent a tiresome morning scrubbing away, I think, lol), and Manx's really cool-looking 800, not to forget hianoo's purple Zen with black-painted metal wheels.
Anyways, so after some banter, we troop off to the nearby Coffee day, find out they dont have enough place in the air-conditioned part for all of us, so settle for the open back-side, roasting nicely in the mid-afternoon sun!!
And so we chat on about Yamaha RD's, drag cars, upgrades, the 'worst crashes ever' thread, and about what we should do for the next meet. The time flies, and we head back to the beach after an ejoyable chatting (yapping?) session.
Headers wants to try out a handbrake turn, the idea which he had suggested to slipstream in the previous meet, so he sets off in the 1000.
he passes by us, and I'm wondering 'why hasnt he done it yet?' and suddenly the car turns hard to the right, and theres a loud noise as the tyres wail in protest to the 1000's rather sudden change in direction. But it dosent stop moving, it moved towards the pavement, and didnt stop at all........until it was inches away from it. By that time, slipstream had his hands on his head in distress, and the look on his face was memorable. Apparently, the fornt brake force is not distibuted between the two wheels properly in his car. That was a REALLY close one. An amazing handbrake turn, and a startling display of car control, but close nevertheless.
By then, people were starting to take the vehicles for a spin, and we spent some more time enjoyably (the only jarring factor being the sun beating down upon us!!!).
Almost too soon, it was time to leave. Manx and Nitrous doing the customary burnouts to mark their exit, while the sticky rubber on 5u3zero's simply refused to let go, when he tried a burnout!!
So it was a great meet, so much fun, and so aweosme meeting like-minded car people from hometown!!!
And I must say I learnt a lot today from the other members, all of them much senior and with a whole lot more experience than me!!!
A big thanks to everyone who attended and made this meet a success, and, most of all, A BIG THANK YOU TO NITROUS for taking so much pains to organise this meet. We all owe it to that guy.
Cheers to all!!!
