Avi..Honestly I feel the distance and the cost of the drive is very high.Considering all the mathematics for a 600km drive,we would need 2 tank fills easily (for a petrol head like me) + an overnight stay in a remote city with family,sounds rather a difficult affair.If we stick to car pooling,then its not a drivers+ cars meet.we might well hire some qualis and go to Bijapur and comeback.
These are recession times and bad times are ahead for you and me(im talking about Satyam guys).
I think we should plan a day tripper with a shorter distance and try to economise.
Then im sure the attendance will go up.This is just my

I was speaking to Hillram and kkrk2 and Warangal came into mind.

Its a nice short sweet ride of 130kms one way and lovely, no traffic highway. There are some good attractions like 1000 pillar temple, NIN and a good restuarant that i know for lunch there etc.

Warangal is indeed a good option, mainly for the short & sweet drive (130 KM in 2 Hrs). There are, of course, many tourist attractions such as 1000 pillar temple, Kakatiya fort, Ramappa Temple (~70 KM from Warangal) and there is this famous Jain temple at Kolanupaka that is almost midway between Hyd and Warangal.

Jan 25 also happens to be the last day of cul-fest at NIT-Warangal, my alma mater

If it has to be in Jan'09. Yes, it has to be on either of the day. My preference goes for Jan 25th.

Guys I wanted to suggest a place known as Laknavaram lake in Warangal District. This place was highly recommended by a relative of mine who stays few KMs from there.

Coming to Laknavaram, its 220KM from here so up and down its 440KM. I just spoke to my relative and he says he will make sure the boat near the lake is reserved for us provided we confirm we are making it to the place.

So here is the Proposed Plan (ah! after a long time I am coming up with an agenda!!!):

DATE: 25th January

DESTINATION: Laknavaram Lake, Warangal Dist. It is around 220 KM. The nearest place before Laknavaram is Ramappa Temple. Though Ramappa Temple is a good place as well, we can not do both the places in a single day trip.

MEETING PLACE: Uppal GENPACT.

TIME: 6:30AM

TIME TO LEAVE: 7:00AM

BREAKFAST: Pack your own stuff. And carry good amount of water.

EXPECTED TIME TO REACH THE DESTINATION: 4 HOURS.

LUNCH: We have to pick it up in Warangal or Mulugu(which is around 20km from warangal). We can have our lunch at Laknavaram at around 1:00PM.

WHAT WE WILL DO THERE: Sit at the place, enjoy the nature. There is a rope bridge which connects to a small island(yes an Island!!). I heard this is the major attraction. There is also a boat ride there. As I said earlier, my relative will make sure that the boat will be reserved for us.

RETURN TIME: 4:00 PM

We will be back to our respective homes by 8:00 or 8:30 PM.

NOTE: Since this is a bit longish drive, we shall stick with the Car pooling theme. Just in case any of the drivers feel tired or not in a state to drive back there will always be others to do the needful.
