Slightly off topic but recently while travelling around Bhuj my companion narrated similar failure and how he had to leave the car behind. Since this is a failure of hydraulic cylinder driving the clutch plates and not the clutch plates themselves the car can be driven - though carefully to your destination.

Thank you SS. I was finally charged 10597/-. The master cylinder + slave + related labour was covered under warranty. I had to pay for the clutch plate (4320), clutch cover assembly (2373) + labour for clutch pressure plate (1680) + 800 bucks for consumables and other labour charges.

The same justification of half clutch & excessive clutch usage was given to me. Do you think I can take this issue up with M & M customer care? I am attaching a copy of the invoice

What you are suggesting is not practical in any city. This can be done only when traffic is sparse.

@4x4addict: Not in heavy city traffic. But possible in moderate city traffic even with few stop signals.

I always thought, scorps are very reliable, until, I read this.

I must add my Scorpio to this unfortunate list of clutch failures. Mine is VLX Sep 2009 model, serviced on time, 47K run. All was ok till today afternoon untill I started home from Hinjewadi Pune. Was driving along the Wakad road, after about 1.5 km from the new Sahyadri Motors workshop, i had to slow down due to traffic, I pressed the clutched and to my horror it just SANK, I was in 3 rd gear and could not down shift. Fortunately the vehicle did not stall, I could control it and drag it to sidewalk and park safely. Roadside number in service booklet did not work so had to call Sahyadri Motors they gave Wakad workshop number. The workshop was about to close around 1830 but they sent a mechanic. He pumped the clutch and drove the vehicle back to workshop, I drove the service scorpio. Workshop supervisor said the dreaded words 'slave cylinder is gone, gearbox needs to be lowered, CP assembly needs to be replaced'. Total estimate around 17k, of which 3/4k for the cylinder assembly could be covered under extended warrenty. I would have to pay for the rest. Not to forget the 180 Rs I had to pay for rickshaw ride from workshop to SB Road :0
The only good part was no one was hurt, I did not crash into anyone, no one rear ended and I did not block the Hinjewadi traffic otherwise thousands would have cursed me and Mahindra for sure.
I considered Scorpios to be very reliable but it seems they are not, workshop people said CRDe used to be basic and reliable, it seems that is not the case with high tech VLXs :(

One question to all the scorpio owners: Has this been the case with only '09 & '10 models or is this issue still persisting even with the new scorpios - '11 or '12 models?

@starter: it seems most of the affected Scorpios are 2009, 2010 models.
Here is an update on my issue.
In the morning I was told that I would have to pay for CP and PP. I told them to go ahead with repair. So, slave cylinder was replaced under warranty, master is still good so it was not changed. CP and Pressure Plate (PP) was also changed and I was charged for it (initially). The repair was completed by 4 pm. At the workshop I had to reason with the service advisor about CP,PP replacement under warranty. No shouting or heated arguments required but I was persistent about clutch being key part with known issue and it failing under warrenty etc. SA was attentive, helpful and reasonable, after a couple of calls and they decided waive of CP, PP cost (almost 8k). When I asked what changed - it seemed because my vehicle was always regularly serviced at their workshop and clutch failed under 50k and there was no evidence of clutch abuse they decided to waive off. I had to pay almost 5k for labour and other consumables. I know it is not ideal but still I am pleased with the efficiency with which issue was resolved, helpful nature and courteous attitude of SAs in Wakad workshop.

I wish that M&M should be more proactive about known issues and replacement without waiting for an incidence to happen.

Off topic: while I was reasoning with SAs I saw 2 scorpios - 2005 model mileage 300000 km and other almost 10 year old with 600000 km, no major repairs only couple of suspension changes. No engine trouble etc. I was impressed but I wish the new mHawks were as reliable !!

I agree, if M&M can couple quality with their customer service attitude(I had great service from M&M and my A.S.C for my ownership experience) I think they have a great success formula!

I wonder why Mahindra is so shy to issue recalls. This issue has been faced by countless Mhawk owners, and Mahindra does not even care to issue a recall. Maybe Mahindra knows that if they do not issue a recall, they can earn extra profit for their dealers in clutch plate and pressure plate replacement? A good way to make money for the company and Dealers.
OTOH, toyota is recalling 10 year old cars to replace parts free of cost!

Hi All,

I've started getting some oil leakage under my almost 3 month old Scorpio LX 4WD over the last few days, and it seems to me that the mileage of the vehicle appears to have dropped drastically (I used to get about 10 km/l in the city, and now am getting only about 8 km/l). The vehicle has not even completed 5000 km so far. Though I'm not seeing any other clutch wear symptoms, such as reduced pick-up, reading this thread has me concerned that there might be clutch trouble in the offing.

I would be undertaking a Ladakh trip next week, and need the vehicle in perfect shape for that.

I'm based in Gurgaon. Do let me know whether you guys recommend Sterling Motors, Gurgaon, or Koncept, Noida for this service. Obviously, Koncept is a very long drive for me, but I'm willing to make it if the service quality is several notches better. I don't want to chance anything where the safety of family and friends is concerned.

Have not heard of premature clutch failure in the newer lot of m-Hawks, guess its better to go to ASC and have the cause of oil leakage checked up.
