@forbhaskarm, I don't wan't to sound very negative, yet I feel that you must get this checked at the earliest at your SS, particularly if your symptoms are similar to what a fellow member chaunfa experienced, as given in the link below :

Does the noise increase with speed?
Very difficult to diagnose without seeing the car. However, here are some possibilities: - worn steering tie rod end
- noise from the strut(strut kit worn)
- something stuck in the wheel disc cover - easiest thing is to drive in revers efor say 20-30 metres and the foreign object would come out
|
It seems to be at regular intervals although the intervals are very close. The surface of the roads do not matter & it starts at around 30KMPH & the interval reduces with increase in speed.
Well, your first two observations could be correct. I 'll try to reverse for a few yards & see if it works.
Thanks mate.
The Scorpio splashes all the water from any puddle onto the windshield. Any explanations on how that happens? Shouldn't it splash the water on to either side while being driven through a puddle of water? I've read that it is a design flaw. However, I haven't quite understood how this happens. The solution for me - keep the auto wipers on as soon as you hit the road in rainy conditions. Of course this is only available on the Vlx.
I was blinded completely recently when I went through a dirty puddle. Good thing there were no on coming vehicles or vehicles in front or behind. I just stopped to collect my wits!
Thanks Raj, TaureanBul, Akshay,
It seems M&M wants to upgrade the entire headlamp assembly and provide the blue vision lamps which are available in the latest gen Scorpio.
I don't want to go for the cheap version or chinese Xenons which are a hazard to the others.
I have found out that Philips manufacturers the regular bulbs but with a blue coating giving a white light which is slightly brighter than the stock bulbs, the rating of thse bulbs is the same as the stock one.
The accessory shop didnt have them readily available, he has promised to get a pair for me to look in a day or so and I have the option to buy it if I like (He has quoted 1100 Rs. including fitting).

@ upreti: if you are looking for better visibility, there are many cheaper option like HIDs. HIDs come in a set which will consist the bulb & the ballast. they will cost around Rs. 8000/-. |

Do M&M manufacture such headlamps (IMO no they don't)? May be the service centre is providing you some outsourced ones. In any case, you must check the built and quality of the headlamp. |

These guys are taking you for a ride. You can just get Bulbs replaced,to something by Phillips\Osram or Even HID's. |
Hi triedeverything, This is a basic design flaw of the front bumper of the Scorpio, M&M tried resolving it by adding skirting just below the fog lamps but result is nil. So you need to be extra careful while negotiating in rains especially in traffic when you can suddenly spash, be blinded and can end up in a tricky situation.
If the puddle is deep and the speed is high, the water will splash up to the roof (I have had this experience at the Kharghar Railway station under pass), and a waterfall form on the windshield causing temporary blindness for more than a few seconds (enough to cause a serious problem if at the wrong place at the wrong time). The wipers, even if automatic are of no use in this case as I have experienced.

My Scorpio 2005 is a non-CRDe model, has done 95K & almost trouble free. Recently, i.e. since yesterday, I noticed weird sound (tak-tak-tak) while driving over 35-40kmph when the steering is either straight or turned left. The sound & its corresponding vibrations travel straight through from the pedals to the steering wheel. |
Get the steering rod linkages/ends checked. Their being loose/worn out seems to be the most likely reason since you say that the sound also comes when the steering is straight. Do you experience any increase in the free play as well?? Is this a continuous sound or only when the car goes over potholes/bumps/bad roads?

Hi Upreti,
That a very good decision you have taken. Philips is a good brand.
I also suggest you to have a look at hellas headlamps. Many BHPians here will vouch for them.
There are three dealers in Mumbai. You can search for that on hellas Indian website.

Here's how this happens :
When the Scorpio enters a puddle, especially a pothole full of water, apart from the water being ejected out to the sides,
water is also ejected out towards the front, at a forward angle. This happens in all other vehicles too, but the water in other vehicles gets deflected back down by the underbody / bumper. In Scorpio's case, the front wheels are set very close to the front bumper, and the bumper is set too high to deflect the water.
How does this water then arrive at the windshield? Well, the water ejected out at the front (at the forward angle) climbs up like a sheet to clear the bonnet height, and because the Scorp is moving forward, it slams into this water sheet. If your Scorpio's speed is higher, the water ends up on the roof, as in Upreti's case !
Again, as Upreti said, this issue was tried to be resolved by M&M by adding the front skirting, but maybe some more adjustments are required to the bumper design, to solve this irritating problem.
Thanks TaureanBull, I will check out the Philips bulbs in the evening today.
The Acc. shop guy has given me the option to try them out before buying.
I just need to check if there is a warrenty on them.
The major factor will be the ratings, he has assured me that these are regular Halogen Lamps with blue coating to give a white / blue light.

I have seen a Scorpio and an Endeavor add a kind of a plate over the bonnet. I am pretty sure this is to deflect the water even further.
This plate is a branded plate and has Scorpio/Endeavour inscribed on it and comes in Purple (thats the only color I have seen).
I have never seen it in action though...
The water over the windshield is a downright scary experience, and I prefer slowing down in large puddles...

Hi, can you get hold of any pics showing this plate.
You are right the water on windshield is really scary specially when in speed, unfortunately you cannot fathom the depth of the Mumbai puddles so got to be extra careful whenever a puddle is sighted.

I am not sure,if i am using the correct word.
But i guess, what you have seen is a "Fly Deflector"(or whatever its called).
Dont think its for water.
@akshay - do these bug deflectors really work? - apart from the water on the scorp, we usually have the bug splattered on wind screen problem too. Looking for some cure for this.

Okay, bug deflector is the correct word, rather than Fly.
Not sure if they work, but if the fly\bug,decides to fly into the windshield,i doubt they will work then.
Venky, Adzegeek & Akshay:
Bug deflectors work for the bug but will fail horribly for the water. And they work on bugs provided they are of light weight.
If you have those beetle kind of large bugs flying around, splat across the windshield!
How do these Bug deflectors, deflect the bugs?
this is something i have not been able to understand.
