Heheh.. Airtel gprs settings are the easiest - Just type in airtelgprs.com for the access point and it will work. No user id / password / ip address needed.

lol my mistake, it was airtel wap gprs and yes i finally sorted it out just now

Also, Google maps does not give driving directions for India yet. For that you can try Live mobile (wls.live.com). Downside is that Live Mobile maps are not detailed (yet) for places outside of Mumbai. Hopefully, both of them should change.. after all, who expected such detailed maps/GPS being used in Indian cities a couple of years ago !!

let me try that
Mapking version is G10

I'm hearing this for the first time. Have been using GPS since 2005 and never once have I been stopped by the law.

And a RTO approval to use a GPS. I don't think RTO has any role to play in installing accesories. If that is so then how about approval for music system, tv screens etc..

Seems you have had a bad experience. How about posting details?

Secondly, even if he doesn't say that, he may ask you if you got RTO approval and entered in on your RC. Have you?

Ahh...Now I can vouch that the Satguide maps (satguide.in) are really accurate....
For those who joined late, mapking maps for India, and sp. Chennai are atrocious and off by 100 mtrs or so most of the time
So for a while, I tried using Google maps with GooPs...Very accurate, but no routing
Anyway, I ordered the maps from Satguide.in and they are very very accurate...
The routing isn't all that good, buut the maps are as accurate as they get

johy...You wouldn't find SIliguri specific maps as yet but you can use Destinator (google for it) and destinator maps (All India ) from the Satguide folks

SmartCom Gps is a very good software. You can try it at www.wild-mobile.com. Also MG maps is a very good software, the only problem is you cannot save the tracks.

There are FAR cheaper options available for GPS receiver at Rs 5k - at Chipsilicon

I have been using the Altina BT GPS from chipsilicon for 1 month now without any problem whatsoever. It has all the features as the ebay piece at a lesser price.

Pune Satguide maps are atrocious. It just declared yesterday as I was driving on NH4, that the road does not exist !! And Satguide fellows dont seem to offer any upgrades for early buyers like me. They didnt even respond to my email.

ROFL....
I had similar experiences with mapking in chennai...

Currently, the best GPS tool by far for India is Google earth
The only thing that it lacks is routing, but the data is extremely precise, and best of all, it's free....
not to mention the cool factor involved with seeing the actual photos of the road you are driving on from the top instead of lines masquerading as roads

It's a pity that it can't be run on a PDA though

Guys, I have a DVD car entertainment system with two Video screens in my car. One is a Sony TV Receiver system with 2 video inputs and a Navigation AV input. What GPS system could I use which has a AV out which I could just plug into the Nav. in of my sytem and see the display on my screen. I have a budget of 15k to 20K. Thank in advance.

U cant run Google Earth. But Google Maps for mobile is available and YOU can see the very same sattelite pics as Google Earth.

And routing within India is available on Microsoft Live Search, though most of the intra-city roads are missing for areas other than Mumbai.

In order to use ur DVD ICE, I think your only option in India could be to go for CarPC. I think some of the PDA's have AV out, but definetely not within ur budget.

Even then I am not sure if a CarPC comes with an S-Video out? abhi182 can answer that.

I do not want an S_Video out. All I need is a GPS device with a simple video out.

Yippee....Stored Google maps from mgmaps

Mobile GMaps :: View topic - Stored Maps

Guys, Tried out this midlet on my XDA Atom.. It works great . No more need for GPRS connection on the phone to download Google maps.

Hope we can start sharing MGMapscache for different locations in India (not on this forum though.. for legal reasons).
