Re: Fiat Palio S10 - Now, Restoration Complete!

Thanks All for the kind words.

@chandrda and nkrishnap, the headlight levelling is checked using the red box there. it contains a convex lens on the front and a marker in the back that this lens focuses on. Using the markings on the back, we can adjust the level of focus of the lights on a car, for high and low beams.

@coloneljasi, the centre console was silver to begin with. it was bought new from Fiat but the quality of the silver paint on these parts was abysmally bad. Hence, i decided to get all the silver parts painted in dull black. With everything else in the cockpit being grey, i think it goes well with the theme of the interiors. i would have preferred to keep them silver, but i just did not like the paint quality.
Also, the Audio install is still not done. i just have the head unit there as a placeholder. More updates when i get around to getting that part finished.

The original S10 skirts that were on the car were damaged beyond repair. Hence we discarded them. looking for a pair from scrapped cars, but the prices quoted by individuals who are scrapping their cars is daylight robbery. They are expecting prices higher than what a new set would cost with matching paint. Not worth it IMHO.

Also, the car has completed 7500 kms post finishing. I just went through the service and replaced the initial mineral oil with synthetic Shell Helix Ultra THe fuel and oil filters were replaced along with the spark plugs. The coolant was also fllushed and refilled. The car is running butter smooth and extremely silent now, as compared to earlier.

Cheers,
Kiran.

Re: Fiat Palio S10 - Now, Restoration Complete!

Honestly, I had never seen a high light adjustment equipment like that before
I am starting the restoration work on my 2003 GTX in June. I have bought most of the spare parts from 99RPM. Once the repainting process starts, I will order interior parts as well and what ever we find has gone kaput

Only issue is in finalizing the garage to get all this done. I have been talking to couple of them. Hoping its all worth the effort and money.

Regards

Also, i need an exhaust for my car. In case the exhaust on this one is in good contition (without leaks), please let me know how much he wants for it.

He is not selling parts out of the car at all. Even if you want a spoiler you need to buy the whole car

Oh Wow!! That is madness. Selling the car as scrap but not as parts? Doesnt make sense to me. He will actually make more money if he parts out the car, than sell it as a whole for 30k.

Re: Fiat Palio S10 - Now, Restoration Complete!

Hi Kiran,

thanks for the wonderful thread. I have started procuring part of restoration of my palio. It would be helpful to give details/breakup of the work done. it would help us to set the budget aside before taking up the work.

Best Regards

Hillram, that is a very well maintained car you got there! Don't think it needs any restoration. Just some preventive maintenance and you should be good to go!!

Wish you many happy miles with it.

Regards,
Kiran.

Re: Fiat Palio S10 - Now, Restoration Complete!

Its been exactly a year now that the rebuild completed and the car rolled out of the workshop. I've covered about 12500Kms in the past year. The odo now reads 1127xx Kms.

I use this car as my daily driver. The new engine is bedding in very nicely. No issues with any part of the car so far. I do still believe that I'm running the wrong ignition timing and AFR due to the 1596 ECU on the 1581 engine. Haven't found any solutions to this yet.

Got the car serviced from Bugstop at 110000 Kms. Changed to Shell Helix Ultra synthetic oil. Engine is extremely smooth post this change.

There have been a couple of incidents/accidents that occurred:
1. On the way back from Mysore, there was a pothole on the highway that was filled with water (during rains) that i could not see at night. Hit this at about 100 KMPH and had a flat tyre. Probably a slightly bent rim as well.

2. Had an Indica Vista (taxi) ram into the back of the car while stationary at a red light on Indiranagar 100 Ft. Road in Bangalore. he was trying to squeeze into a non-existant gap. No damage to the car at all. The paint had scuff marks that cleared up with rubbing compound.

3. Had another Indica (taxi) scrape the right rear corner of the bumper at a red light on the New Airport road in Bangalore. He was trying to take a right turn without waiting for the green light. Again, no damage to the car or the paint.

Must say I've been lucky with no damage to the car with the above incidents.
