Inflating tyres with dry nitrogen

I changed to Nitrogen yesterday when I went for allignment and balancing.

The cost was 30 Rs per tyre. So, 30*5= 150 rupees. I just wanted to experience the change in comfort. Also, I only have to topup air once in four months.

I see a small improvement in the ride comfort. What I like is that the tyre noise (goodyear GPS2) has reduced considerably.

If you do all this at the same time, how can you objectively conclude that the nitrogen has contributed to anything? It is most likely your alignment / balancing has resulted in the changes you describe.

It is only gas, and in your normal road use IMO nitrogen is simply a feel good placebo effect and actually makes no difference in any which way.

I filled the Skoda with the nitrogen and immediately noticed a better ride, felt more softer, paid Rs 100 for 5 tyres at HP on Museum Road outlet, also mentioned you need not top up for the six months which is total crap, after a week two tyres came down to 15PSI instead of 30PSI.

Checked both the tyres and found no fault as it never happend with ordinary air. Will never fill Nitro again.

I check alignment/ balancing every 4000 kms. The alignment reading was fine. I do not think improvement in alignment would result in decrease in tire noise.

I filled nitrogen in my swift VDi stock tires, gurus what is the correct PSI, the guy at the shop suggested 32 and 30. Is it correct? Currently i have 32 and 30.please reply.

The driver side door panel will have a sticker with the correct psi value written on it.
The instruction manual will def have the values in it.

But I have no idea how you manage to have both 32 and 30 psi in the tire.

EDIT: stupid joke, I assume you mean diff pressures in front and rear tires

i meant 32 psi for front tires and 30 for back tires, can any one anwser my question ,correct PSI(Nitrogen) for front and back tires of a Swift Diesel.

, even I do the same, sometimes has to pay 1 rs. per tire.

BTW, unless you tell people that you've filled nitrogen, no one driving or riding the car will even notice any significant difference. It's probably just another hogwash.

I never follow the different in front, usually a higher psi ( due to engine weight) and lesser at back method.

I use a flat same for all four tyres method, which is 31psi for my Accent Viva. Sorry dont know about Swift. I guess you can experiment and stick to the one which is most comfortable to you.

Call up Maruti and ask. See what they say about Nitrogen.

PS: To save you the trouble, try looking into the Owners Manual. There you will have a mention of the PSI required in the tyres. Unfortunately they wont say Nitrogen but air there.

Hint: PSI is Pound per square inch. Try and found out how it is meaured, you will have an answer.

Hint2: Koi farak nahi penda. Dimag ki batti hai bus.

Hi Guys,

I have been regularly using Nitrogen in my tyres of the following cars
Fusion TDCI - From Dec 2008
Corolla - From April 2009

The advantages i have found first hand are follows
Fusion - Have run now for 16 K kms after changing to Nitrogen
a. Much lower road noise (for those who own the fusion, road noise is a big irritant).
b. Stable air pressure and does not require top up even after 4 months. I fill in 34 and after 4 months the pressure in the tyres remain at 33. As a result, i get consistent mileage. In the past, i have to check for air pressure every week. I fill in 34 and by the next week, it is already 28. In case i forget, it affects the ride, pick-up, handling and mileage apart from greater tyre wear
c. Ride is much smoother

Corolla
a. Improved ride - I can say 100% as the ride improved tremendously after filling in Nitrogen even with RE88.
b. Lesser road noise - Was thinking of changing the tyres due to high road noise at high speeds, but after filling in Nitrogen, i have postponed my decision and continuing with RE88.

Please Note: No alignment done in both cases. Only changed air to Nitrogen!

As i travel a lot on the high ways, i feel safer using Nitrogen as it does not expand and avoids any tyre bursts.

In Chennai, (or atleast where i fill), Nitrogen is expensive!!! Rs. 50/tyre for filling and Rs. 10/tyre for topping up.

Would go for Nitrogen in my Santro also once it is back from service.

In other words, i would vouch for Nitrogen in place of air anyday.
