Hmm, thanks for the information.

However on a number of sites it says that the mini version and also the version 2.1 are not compatible with Figo, thus the doubt.
Would you be able to confirm if all the currently available ELM 327 work with the Figo?

I've been using the mini dongle on my Figo petrol for a while now. It is left docked in the port.
The only compatibility issue with the mini dongle is that the plastic surround of the dash around the socket needs to be slightly shaved off so the dongle can get through to the socket.

Many thanks, I'll go ahead and place the order for the mini ELM 327 then.

Is pre facelift Alto 2008 compatible to onboard diagnosis? There is an OBD port available under the dashboard. However I can't figure it out whether it is version 1 or 2.
If any one has any idea regarding OBD compatibility of Alto then please reply.

Thanks
Aakarsh

I am not sure if it would work. Post 2009 things will work.

Why not ask a friend or a BHPian in your city who has an ELM327 to lend it to you to check before you invest?

Somewhere in the internet i read that it works but the information didn't seem to be reliable.

Nope. It is not compatible. Only the Alto K10 has OBD compatiblity.

Hello all,
gone through the complete post however still the answer that Swift vdi (Dec-2008) supports OBD-II and will ELM327 work is not clear?
Can somebody clear the doubt here

No, its not. No matter which ELM327 you buy, it wont work. Even original ELM327 isn't compatible.

Only solution is some professional kind (little expensive ones) which scan OBDI protocol

Sorry

The model available in Amazon link couple of posts above is having 1.5. In the product description it is mentioned that 2.1 was having few issues.

Got the ELM327 from Amazon (v2.1) but it is simply not working. Need to disconnect and connect too often and even then the connection breaks. (Figo Petrol)
I have tried with a number of apps on playstore.
Question - Could it be a dud unit or should I go and try something a bit more expensive

Have you tried with another car? That would tell if the elm has an issue with your vehicle, the cheaper ones have this issue, might not work with all cars.

You should get a better device if you want a reliable link. Else the device will require pairing again and again which is annoying.

Would you have any recommendations?
Given the experience I have had, apprehensive now to try something else.

Is it true that only wifi OBD devices work with iOS devices? I am wondering what is the reasoning behind this. Why bluetooth devices do not work with iOS devices? I got myself new iPhone and thinking of buying Vgate iCAR WiFi. Please let me know if this combination will work or not?

Older Swifts don't support the protocol (CAN) that ELM is compatible with. As far as I know, Swift has Keyword Protocol (KWP), which are not supported by ELM dongles. There are some decent products available in the market though.

If you are around Delhi, then feel free to come over to our place to test. We have all kinds available!

I have experienced issues with most BTE devices. Anyhow, Scantool devices are fairly good; you can also try Lauchtech's modules.

Apple only allows MFi (Made for iPhone) devices to connect with iphones and most Bluetooth dongles are not in the list. Well! that's how they do things.

I have not, personally, used Vgate wifi, but have read at many places that it works fine with iPhones.
