Ever locked a car with the keys inside?

Do not jump start your car, try to recharge the battery, or connect another one in parallel and crank. Jump starting may permanently damage your Cat-con.

Try to plug the exhaust. See if the engine shuts off. When the engine shuts off, the central locking normally dis-engages.

I don't think the engine is on in this case. If it is, just pull the fuel pipe from the tank.

You are very wrong my friend, as far as car remotes are concerned. They work on RF. (Radio Waves) ~500Mhz.

Tv remotes, on the other hand, work on IR.

PS:- I've seen many people pointing their remotes towards the car and lock/unlock. Well, there is no point in doing this, since they transmit RF through an Omnidirectional antenna and not directed beam of IR.

Doesn't it harm the engine due to high back pressure ?

@Lambu, it's kind of an emergency, right ? The engine should shut off quickly .. it's not like you are going to do that on a regular basis.

What if this happened in some remote area - would you look at the damage this method may cause, or try get to the keys ?

Yes, the other option is to let it run out of fuel so the engine will die.
(May be you could jack up the front end of the car to create an artifical scarcity of fuel supply to the engine)

Plugging the engine idea will not work. This is because in most of the systems, the unlock is connected to the key. When you switch off engine with the key the unlock works. Even if the engine dies by plugging the key will still be in ignition on mode. So the doors will not unlock.

Hi condor, thinking that this might still not help in unlocking the doors, as the ignition relay is still on. Finding that the doors unlock when the key mode is switched from 'ignition' to the 'electricals' mode, atleast with the Autocop makes. Not sure about the others though.

I faced the door-lock issue about a fortnight ago with the doors locking themselves up despite the bonnet being in a raised condition. Have to check with the Autocop service centre, as a sensor/actuator is mounted on the engine bay(cross member?) too. The steel ruler method helped in unlocking the doors.

Sorry vikram_d, was commenting on that post at the same time. And the car here is the Safari LX

. The Concorde guys spent quite some time, and succeeded finally in unlocking the co-driver's doors.

The new RFID based keys prevent locking the car with key inside.
The car simply will not lock if the key is inside.
Similarly, the car will not start if the key is NOT inside

A year ago, i harassed the life outta a towing "walla" to teach me how to open cars with a scale and i finally mastered the art for my cars atleast. So i buy an extra long metal scale in my car for emergency purposes.
And as murphy's law goes, the day i locked the keys in my car, i realised that the scale was in the car as well!!!

Fortunately, i had parked in my compound and just went home and got the keys, but DUH!!!

So, where to keep this handy scale? any bright ideas?
