Since I hate diesels, especially in passenger cars(my views are unbiased though), it doesn't apply to me as mentioned in this post (DPF issues in BS6-compliant cars at high altitude places like Ladakh, Zanskar and Spiti).

- And the 1.2 on the XUV300, rumours of a more powerful version doing the rounds too. Even the current one is quite good.

- Hope it doesn't become one in cars

There is no traffic congestion and roads are wide. Will these driving conditions cause DPF clogging? I also do long trips thrice an year and a couple of 100km trips every two months. I am finding it difficult to decide between Creta diesel and petrol.
You usage is decent enough to keep the DPF clean.
Especially the 100Km drive every two months.

Lots of Idling (either stationary or crawling), low rpm usage etc. are the chief nemesis of the DPF.
2000RPM is the golden rpm for BS6 diesels.

If you go for Diesel Manual, you won't have much trouble reaching the said RPMs regularly.

It's a good package but the Boot space is really low. I hope they bring an above 4m version of XUV300 in near future.

Can the temperature gauge be used to know when DPF cleaning can take place? Will it be on normal gauge between C and H? Or once the middle line towards H gets crossed?

Not to a great extent, or at least I havent noticed that in my car. The DPF regen only increases exhaust temperature and not the operating temperature of the engine itself. There will be a minor increase in the engine coolant temperature which would be handled by the cooling system without a marked increase in the gauge. I will try to notice this again.

I was initially worried what happens with the turbocharger when the exhaust temperature increases during regen. After some study, I found out that the increase in temperature happens downstream of the turbo in the DOC. Hence the turbocharger would not have to bear the excess temperature.

It does not go to H, but to the level a notch above our normal driving temp level, like what we see when we zestfully climb a ghat or do a few low gear high RPM overtakes.
