I am still on OEM battery and I have completed five years few days back. Yesterday I went for five years service and service adviser was advising me to replace the battery but I did not go for it. The report was showing 67% health even though driving was very limited these days. I told him that I will replace the day car does not start in first crank.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

About nine and a half years ago I bought an Aveo LT 1.4. It came with an Exide battery. That battery lasted seven years. I replaced it with a similar Exide battery and now it has worked for two and half years, one cell is defective and I have a hesitant start after cranking - start it does but it seems to be debating whether it should or not. I think the general quality of batteries has fallen over the last decade, as I had rather hoped that the new battery would take me through another seven years rather than somewhat less than three years.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

Earlier I used Amaron and it lasted for 2 years. Replaced it in 2018 with Exide. I am now having starting problems if car is not used for 3 weeks. Got it checked at the battery dealer who confirmed that the specific gravity was 11.1 and should be 12.5.he topped up the distilled water and said something to do with the charging circuit. a few years back had fitted fog lamps and after one got damaged and was removed did not remove the other one. could this be the cause of the battery draining?
Could do with advice and as I have a long trip coming up.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

I am on my Ertiga's stock battery for last 4+ years and in the lockdown the car was not used much for 8 months or so. I started using the car for last couple of months and it does not give me any issues while starting in the morning. However I got the car oil changed in last week and during that time the service person said the battery has gone weak. Do you experts think it is due to very less usage over last couple of quarters? The service guy is insisting on replacing the battery. Also I have some long trip planned in this and next month. Do you think it is advisable to get the battery replaced to avoid any breakdowns during the trips?

All lead acid batteries, including non automotive go bad due to self discharge if they're not charged regularly. With a car it is done by starting the engine once a week for about 5-10 minutes as many did during the lockdown. While I am a vocal advocate of pro-active battery replacement as your service person how he determined the battery is a goner. Ideally it will be only via a Sp. Gr. test in all 6 cells which should be about 1.250-1.260 for a fully charged battery at 27 deg. C. If one or more of the cells is weak just change it without a second thought.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

A friend's Swift D - the battery lasted a whopping 7+ years, even with low running during the past year. Recently, he wasnt able to use the car for some weeks (not too many), and I believe it gave up then. But excellent life !

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

Hi,
bhpians. I have attached my battery cranking graph. The vehicle is a Ford Fiesta Classic 1.4 TDCi. Battery is a 4 year old Amaron Flo 45AH. Car starts in the first crank but a long one. Am I looking at any impending battery failure. Car is fully stock. No extra electrical load. And once engine fires up, alternator provides a voltage of about 14V. Please enlighten....

Vento TDI 1.6.

First battery was replaced about 4 years ago with Amaron, slightly a higher capacity one. It has been running good so far.

The first battery lasted for about 4 years.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

Tata Green battery which came with my car went bad in 12 months. Replaced with Exide which has now gone bad after 28 months. I've been asked to go for Amaron now, from what I understand, Amaron > Exide > Tata Green when it comes to life.

Tata Green is bottom tier compared to the others, has anyone ever had a good experience with this.

Replaced the battery of my Swift Dzire today.
Got the Amaron Go 38B20R, exactly same as the outgoing one. It comes with warranty of 44 months (24 months replacement + 20 months pro rata). Cost me Rs.3300 with exchange of old (dead) battery.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

We have two cars, a 1996 Maruti 800 and a 2004 Honda City .

Battery history of the Maruti 800 :

OEM battery was of Standard Furukawa brand and it died within 2.5 years. During that time the notion was ( or atleast it was given to us by other car owners) that, if a car battery lasts 2 years, you have your money's worth as Exide batteries didn't last more than 2 years . So we went ahead to replace it with a Standard Furukawa battery . We didn't wanted an Exide because we had a very bad experience with Exide batteries with our earlier car a 1972 Amby .

But we had to settle for an Exide battery as no other brand was available ; we lived in a small town in UP at that time and there was only one battery store in that town during those years . Along with the Exide battery, we were also provided with some complimentary gyan that Exide is the king of battery and the next time we would think of batteries , we should think of nothing but Exide.

That King of a Battery died within 1.5 years . When we reported this to that Battery store , he blamed everything from the alternator , to our driving habits to almost everything on the planet except for Exide battery .
We again ended up buying another Exide battery , as I mentioned before, the perks of living in a town where the battery store has the monopoly .

The second Exide battery died within 1.5 years . At that point of time we were in Noida , and I had enough of His Highness of Exide batteries , I decided to give Amaron a try . I got the base model , the black one , same capacity . That Amaron lasted in the Maruti 800 for 12 years . So much for blaming the car for the premature deaths of Exide batteries . That Amaron battery did not actually die , it had gotten a bit weak , we changed it as a preventive maintenance . That battery was replaced by another Amaron which is still running as on 2021 .

The Maruti 800 is all stock , except I had upgraded the headlamp bulbs from 60/55 to 100/90 . The car runs about 25-30kms everyday .

Battery history of the 2004 Honda City

OEM battery was a Amaron . Lasted for 13 years . Was replaced by another Amaron as a preventive maintenance , which is the current battery .

Everything on the car is stock ; the car runs 60-70 kms a month .

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

Five years and two weeks; I bought my Toyota Etios Liva VD in June 2016. The OEM Exide it came with gave trouble-free service till it went kaput a few days ago. I believe a significant contributing factor to the demise of it has been the low running of the car during the two lockdowns (2020, and April - June 2021). The last two months of inactivity, despite the maintenance run every two weeks, has definitely caused the battery to go t least one year too early.

Funnily enough, a rat traversed the engine bay during the intervening night (between battery removal and installation of the replacement new one). Since then, the check engine light has been on, and the car gives me some starting trouble. Can't figure out whether it's caused by the data being wiped off due to the disconnected battery, or whether the rodent has sunk it's teeth into some wiring (and consequently my wallet) that's causing the starting trouble and the check engine light.
Taking it to Toyota tomorrow morning; shall update once I know the root cause.

Rat dined on the Cam Shaft sensor wire, the AC wiring and the windshield washer pipe. I'm guessing the removal of the battery from its housing created space that let the rat crawl into previously unexplored areas under the engine cover. Just thankful that it's won't cost an arm and a leg to fix.

Re: Car battery life - How long did your battery last?

OEM battery in my XUV lasted 7 years. It was Amaron and so it is now. I think it would have lasted even more but for reduced usage of the car due to covid. However, I have nothing to complain as 7 years is full "paisa wasool". Hope the current one continues the legacy !
