Normal diesel is what to be used and this is what is recommended by Tata & we use for our King IOC in Highways & HP in City.

Are you sure it is at 1800-2000 rpm? Since the panels on the sides (rear) as well as the roof expanse are poorly dampened, they resonate at about 1100-1300 rpm, depending on the gear you are in. Usually happens in 4th and 5th. On the highway this happens when one is crossing the 70Kmph region in 5th gear. |
When the rear seat is folded up i am surprised to see that there is no vibration when crossing 1300/1500 rpm in 3-4 gears. In fact the vibrations dont seem to exist. I have even folded up the jump seats tightly with some extra harness. Also suspect the loosely clamped jack rod below the 2nd row, so i removed that.
At least in my 2.2 i think most of the vibration is coming from the 2 row seat assembly+jump seats. I would be driving this whole week with this configuration just to confirm this. I would appreciate if anyone can try this and report.

So there are a number of filters, i.e, an assembly of fuel filters?
I have been using normal diesel since I purchased the vehicle. Had no problems all this while. I think the service light showing now may be due to the poor diesel quality over time. I will find out in due course though.
Need some help here diagnosing an irritating noise from the engine bay.
This noise has been there for about 2 months now, when the steering is turned at a low speed, say 15-20 kmph, a grinding kirkir kind of noise is heard, now spare me the spelling of the noise please, just trying to describe this particular high pitched irritant :) Initially the noise was coming from only the front left, somewhere near the A pillar, now after reporting it at Concorde some 4 weeks back, the noise has crept into the driver side A pillar too, somewhere deep down the dash if my ears are any good.
Today took delivery of the vehicle from 3rd service and during the test drive it occurred again and this time the conclusion was reached that the noise is present on turns left or right when the blower is operational, ac switch on or off is immaterial, no blower and no noise that is.
Since it was getting late, took delivery of the vehicle, with the feedback form left blank so that their manager is to call me back and pick up the vehicle from my office for further inspection.
I need you guys' opinion here, the mechanics are clueless and are saying the entire dash needs to be taken off. I do believe it is a case of the friendly neighborhood lose screw on something related to the blower, somewhere recessed in the dash, deep down of course for convenience sake..
One more thing worth mentioning is that after reading so many people reporting hoses coming off, I had requested a thorough check of all hoses.. and as it would be, during the test drive after service on Bangalore Hosur road, I was accelerating in 4th and there was a loud thash sound and I immediately lost thrust.. I knew what was it thanks to all the earlier reports and there was the hose we found, coming off alright; btw, this is the first time the turbo hose came off for me, after I asked for a check up that is.. so all in all, I somehow am led to believing now that our Safaris do listen to what is being said of them and punishes the rider with a befitting reply :)
Service indicator- resolved after 1year. Reason mentioned was internal wiring issues, guess where, Audio connections, so much so for the quality checks. Repeated issues not noticed again for the last 2months. Concorde motors Bangalore
Breaking noise when steering turned to either ways- got rectified on first service noticed again after 400km drive yesterday. The other issue that I noticed yesterday- I switch on the ignition I hear a large motor noise running, would this be the fan auto start.
Wiper water tank- leakage. My reading is that the rubber hose falls down due to heat. Need to check with concorde
Krr noise- Driven 19000km noise still persists. The Service guy said that occurs due to the air suction through filters, new technology may be :)
Despite all these niggling issues I have never had any break down issues till date. All service requests have been handled by Mr. Murlidhar (guess he heads the service division) from Concorde. also pretty surprised by the customer service follow up from Mumbai. Ever since I escalated these issues I have got atleast 3 calls in last 2months enquiring if these issues still persist, service light.

This is a collection of all known issues/ Niggles/ Problems with the safari 2.2l, along with the solutions. Please keep adding as it will act as a single repository. Thanks Aburagohain for this suggestion. Fluid hose burst, This was reported by Aburagohain. The klank sound upon full steering turn has been noticed by many, some say it goes away with time. By Aburagohain: The Crankshaft pulley assembly/ damper assembly change The Crankshaft pulley assembly/ damper assembly was reported by me and replaced in some pre-march Safari 2.2l's. The problem found was that the belt will get off the pulley stranding the whole vehicle. They came out with a modified spare and was replaced in some batches. No worry for March/ post march production/ sales, IMO. Krrrr sound upon instant pickup The Most notorious of them is the 'Krrrr' sound which one used to get upon sudden pickup from any of the gears except 1st. Most pre-June batches have this sound and some reportedly say that it goes away after a certain run. By Aburagohain: Can people who have run more than 10k support this claim, JKdas ??? Smsrini??? others?? Windshield Wiper Tank Leakage The Leakage of Windshield wiper tank was also reported by me, just get the tank changed under warranty if you find water levels down within 3-4 days of topup. |

I agree on the hose coming off from the water tank. I observed this problem during the initial month(s) itself.
I put clips on both the hoses. (one for the front windsheld and one of the rear glass) and problem was resolved.
However I had faced a problem of water evaporating from the container during the hot summer months (last year). Will again check it up this year.
Krrr noise - No resolution yet. dadu got his EGR valve changed and has reported substantial reduction. BUT this change will not be across board. We are also not sure whether this EGR is a modified one or not.
My vehicle is turning ~1.5 yrs and the last service i had was at 1 yr. Is the next one due at 1.5yrs? Also what are the main things that need to be changed/replaced at the upcoming service?

How much kilometers as it run and check your manual and it will give correct information when the service is due.
Does anyone of you see service light coming on under high load. For example when vehicle is stuck and you give high revs, leading to wheelspin?
In my vehicle whenever I do that service light comes on for a second. I presume this is a feature and not a bug?

That was what was mentioned in the Bill. I think they changed the filters only.
By the way do the A.S.S always drain the sedimenter at all the services, or do we have to mention it specifically. I don't know whether mine was drained at all.

Well or the case may be that your hose was perfectly fine and when you asked them to check they applied their usual method of Shaking and pulling up the hose to check if it is not coming out and it became loose :D in process.

Tanveer that is not a bug, i guess it is a feature just to highlight that more pressure is being put on the engine as you can see in another thread Abhiknov has faced the problem also and after restarting the service light disappears.

You have to specifically tell them to drain the sedmenter. But even if they have not done it, it is a simple DIY job that will take you no more than 20-25 minutes to do.
I do not even have to restart, once I come out of the slush, the service light goes away.
