re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Today I had a new problem while coming to office. Yesterday there were rains and the road was wet. There is a flapping noise as if mud guard flaps are flapping with the tires, but on inspection everything seems fine. Still when i drive with windows down i can hear this noise. Any one observed similar stuff?

Sometimes polythene etc., get stuck to the undercarriage. Get under the car and inspect

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Dears,
Have you guys ever faced a problem with the central locking unit? I own a 2011-June safari Lx. The dealer provided me with Minda remote lock at the delivery time. Last June I found that the remote lock was not functioning properly. Sometimes it worked and times remained silent! Got the Minda guys check it and they said their unit is doing fine. They asked me to contact TASS and get the central locking unit (The one below driver’s seat) checked. Called up TASS, they said there’s nothing in stock. To my surprise, the whole system started working again after few days except the ‘auto lock’ feature (The auto lock used to get activated on applying break after the engine was started). By this time my vacation was over and had to come back to work. Last week got a call from Dad saying the auto lock is all dead. The car cannot be locked even with the KEY!
Just wondering, is this part covered under warranty? I do have extended warranty as well.

Yes, the Minda central locking has a 3 year warranty. Just last week, my LX's central locking siren went dead and was promptly replaced under warranty by the Minda folks.

However, you will have to source the Minda warranty card for claiming warranty. You can get the central helpdesk no. from their website.

Urgent help needed. When I hold the luggage rails and rock vehicle it makes creaking sounds like old sofa springs. Similar sound also comes when I turn steering. Its as if two pieces of something are rubbing together. Any idea?

Is anyone on the forum Using Synthetic engine oil for their Safari? could you please share your observations or any difference that you may percieve. Also WHat is the Mineral oil best suited for the safari? I change OIl every 7.5 K to 8K KMs.

I was told about checking the wheel bearings. Have yet to check them.
Any other suggestions?

Wheel bearing noise can usually be isolated from tire noise quite easily since there are generally directional effects (for lack of better terminology) - that is to say, it generally gets louder when turning left and softer when turning right or vice-versa, because of the varying load placed on the bearings on either side of the vehicle under such conditions. It is a rumbling sound, not anything sharp. I'm not talking about sharp turns, mind you, just of gently pressing the steering wheel in both directions at highway speed, while observing the effects. It is sometimes subtle - I've identified bad bearings in cars where others couldn't hear it. You can often feel it in the wheel or floorboards, too - and yes, as someone else asked, you can jack up a wheel and usually be able to hear / feel it there, too. Bearings should be absolutely smooth, and the slightest roughness / rumble is a telltale sign that it is nearing the end of its service life.

Thnaks. Seems the OE Central Locking Unit is from Hella! Remote lock is all what I have from Minda. Worst case, they have quoted 2 weeks to get the replacement!

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Just wanted to check with fellow LX owners,
Are the Red lights on doors, reflectors or do they actually glow when door is opened?
I know they glow in EX so I checked at the showroom, they said in LX they don't glow. Is that true?
Also the website says, there's a light in glovebox. I don't see any in mine.

If your car is a model manufactured after 2010, in all probability the door pads have only reflectors, I've heard some cars came with the older version of lights subsequently, but I have checked in new cars displayed in showrooms, there is no light but only a reflector.
The glove box has a light, am not sure if it is there in LX, but if it says it is there then check for fused/missing bulb.

It's a simple reflector (on my 2011 LX). There's no other light on the door except the puddle lamp.
