The behaviour is correct, but your association with child lock is incorrect.

If the door opening handle - whether the inside on or the outside one - is held open when the lock electrically disengages (by switching off car or by operating driver side lock lever), that door lock doesn't disengage - all others do. The childlock lever is not connected to this - it only prevents opening from inside, mechanically, by making the lever slip and not engage.

The correct method is (if the car is off) to a. tell the person not to touch the handle till you say so and b. lock and unlock with driver's side lock lever - this time that door's lock with disengage.

Happens to me all the time, but from outside. I would have started the car, the door locks would have engaged - and then my not-so-patient wife will stand at the door holding the outside handle and banging on the window. I have to tell her to wait till I unlock.

Yes, but it still takes a couple of instructions to get this procedure into ones head, as I think this is mostly not how it works on other cars, or may be I never noticed

.
I guess I have got you guys confused.

Let me put it in Simple words,
If You set the Child Lock to Off does it ever turn back to On on its own.?

This is what is happening with my Safari.

No it does not do that on mine.

Have you checked to confirm if the child lock "auto engages" under normal lock / unlock situations?

Neither in mine. It only happens when the person cleaning my car manages to toggle it while cleaning it.

@Ajitsingh208, does it happen only on 1 specific door, or on any door (incl. 5th door) other than driver's side? What did the Tata A.S.S. guys say? If only one specific door, it could be that the lock engaging rod is bent.

So, this is not a hidden feature . So far I have only noticed it on the middle row doors, no one has ever sat at the back. But it happens on both locks, The child lock automatically goes to ON if someone touches the door opening handle, Then I get down, put it to OFF, let them out. Sometime later, the process repeats itself.
Any clues as to what I can ask the TASS guys to check.

You are 100% right. I have noticed this in all my cars from 2002 WagonR to 2013 Honda. Looks like when the lever is pulled to open the door, it locks some internal mechanism, which prevents the release of some lever inside. The correct way, as you described, is either (1) tell your passengers not to touch (pull) the door open lever or (2) Unlock it, lock-it and then unlock it again- works fine.

Ajit,

Learn to appreciate and enjoy what "The Beast" offers and ignore such little nuances. It helps to keep the blood pressure low and enjoy a good night sleep .

Hahaha, I was just curious, have stopped worrying about such features ever since I have owned RE, Safari has just added to the calmness.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

I have a door open warning on my instrument cluster all the time even when physically all doors are closed anf locked. Can any one tell me, how to find which door sensor is giving this spurious warning? I am not able to lock the car with remote since it activates the siren and the door auto lock after start also wont function. Will the obd port gives these info?

The OBD port will not tell you about the door switches. Definitely one of the switches is misbehaving, without which door locking electronics will not raise an alarm.

Detecting which switch is a tricky problem, since the wiring side of the switches in not easily accessible. One way of searching is to look for a door that has an unusual gap with the frame. The one that is the most common culprit is the 5th door. The only other way is to check the health of each switch with a multimeter, only the A.S.S. people will be able to do it.

Hmmmm surprising. I never knew my wife had a twin sister somewhere in Bangalore .....

Of course my half of the twins will not leave the handle, so its impossible to unlock the door. Its a marital pantomime that we have come to enjoy after 18 years together.

I often wonder if things could be reversed if she was ready and waiting by the car, and I took another 15 minutes dashing on my favorite after shave, before making my appearance outside, ready to leave.

Maybe that's a mystery I am not destined to solve.

ROFLMAO.

Unh-hunh no, doesn't work - have tried that too! I only get a constant stream of reminders, increasingly growing raucous by the minute.

The only thing that worked for me was to get down and open the door for her like a thorough gentleman.

A.S.S. and multimeter? You give some people too much credit!
They usually solve stuff by hit and trial only!

Any idea what does Brake Disk cost? Better to do it at T.A.S.S. or outside?

Approx 8K for pair + labour
http://www.99rpm.com/tata/brake-disk...or-safari.html

Better to get disks resurfaced outside. I got my brake disks resurfaced on lathe, It takes away less then 1 mm of thickness. Brakes form a lip sort of thing at edge and only that much was removed. I guess you can safely get the disks resurfaced a couple of times before changing.

In Safari hub needs to be opened for taking out disks so get hub greasing done as well if you are getting it done outside.
