About 2 weeks back, I saw the ABS orange light glow up and go off on it own.



Yesterday morning again it came up and stayed on. Sometimes the Traction control light doesn't come and the ABS light goes off.

Today I took the car to the workshop and they hooked the scanner. i was told that it is showing speed sensor plus mechanical + implausible. Which in english means both hub and speed sensor gone. I'm quite intrigued that the hub i.e. the wheel bearing going so soon. The car has done about 46.5K Kms.


Anything else I should be checking out for?

I too got the same light and the pattern was also almost the same. The ABS light would come, and after a few mins the traction light would come on. If I turned off the engine, both would go off. As soon as I started driving again the ABS light would come and then the TC light.

Hooked the car to the comp, I guess it was the same error. Changed just the ABS sensor and things are back as good. I suggest you get the sensor only changed and see if the error goes.

If the bearing has gone there will be a distinct grinding kind of noise. Jack up the suspicions wheel, turn it and listen carefully for grinding noise. Let me know if you need any help.

Today morning the ABS warning light disappeared. Which again again came up after 2 hours. I have a feeling that it could be loose connection or dirty wheel hub. Anyway given the rains, the workshop is choked and I have been given an appointment next week. I can feel that high speed braking is slightly compromised. Gotta take it easy till this is fixed!

I wanted to quickly check if the TSI engine has a rubber timing belt or not and what is the change frequency?

Timing chain and there is no recommended replacement interval. Auxillary drive to A/C compressor and alternator is via belt drive. Water pump is on the gearbox side of the engine, taking drive from the corresponding end of one of the balancer shafts.

Many sub components of the timing chain in this generation of 1.8TSI are prone to failures, and if you want to do preventive maintenance, please see this discussion. :)

Thanks. Your post was most helpful. I haven't felt anything as yet. But now that the car is 7 yrs old with albeit only 47K Kms, I will keep my eyes and ears open.

Hi,

My 2012 Skoda superb TDI is shutting off after running for a couple of seconds with the glow plug warning turning on.

At times, she refuses to start & starts normally after a couple of attempts.

Have experienced both the above a few times. Upon performing a VCDS scan, got the below code. The Skoda service centre has diagnosed this to be a faulty ECM & suggested me to replace the same which would cost a bomb.

Have anyone experienced a similar issue?

Could be a fuel injector issue too.
First, get the fuel injectors cleaned and their sensors and terminals cleaned
Second. If that does not work, get the fuel pump checked.

Also your idle rpm seems a bit low and that could be stalling the engine. If you have access to Vcds, get the idle rpm offset increased by 50-100. That may also stabilize the engine.

It could be poor connections, try getting the connections to the ECM cleaned

I had been facing a major issue in the Mumbai rains with my Laura. Activating the ORVM heater wouldn't heat the mirror glass thereby needing me to wipe the water droplets by hand. And both the ORVMs had this problem.


When the car was in workshop last week for ABS sensor replacement, I asked the team to check this and fix it. The workshop folks call me in the middle of the day and tell me that they have checked and found that both the heated ORVms are not working ( i thought I was saying the same thing) and hence I need to replace both the glass elements which have the heater. Each glass costs about 6K.

I heard that and told them not to bother as something didn't seem right.


I decided to check the Owner Manual and the Service Manual to figure out a way as I felt 2 mirrors can't go kaput together. And as I started reading the Owner's Manual, I realised the issue!


Apparently the heater in the ORVM only works if the ambient temperature is below 20C. Since it is never that cold here in Mumbai, the mirror heater won't get turned on.



And the workshop was trying to peddle me something that wouldn't have worked as well!:deadhorse

On my 2011 Laura Tsi, I am getting the check engine light on. The error is P3089: Fuel pump electronics signal wire. Electrical error.

Te ultimate cure suggested by Authorized Service centre is to replace fuel pump and control unit, which seems not the right move. I had a look at the pump and control unit. The wiring looks fine.

Overall, other than the light on dashboard, the car is performing as usual, no drop in power, no delay in throttle response.

I know for sure, rats were in the car only for one day, after which the light came in. Not a coincidence for sure. However, those can't access the pump. Is it possible that the wiring in the engine bay (the other end) got disturbed?

Any suggestions are welcome.

There could be short circuit somewhere which could have led to this. My suggestion would be to take it to an independent and get the entire wiring checked thoroughly. If there is rat bite, there would be tell tale signs. This could be worth the chance before plonking all the money for fuel pump and ecm.

Appreciate your help. Afterall we're TBHP, we never provide charity to Authorized service centres. Incidentally, yesterday evening, I filled in fuel from a renowned pump, and did a bit of driving and the light disappeared. The same had happened in the past, just to reappear again. So, I'll watch the space and update. I do not see much logical connection, though. My hypothesis would be it is connected somehow to low level of fuel.

The car is in a city (Hyderabad) where my network is not the strongest and I am shuttling between Hyderabad and Bangalore, hence the issue. Also cruel to the car is that my daily drive is 10+10 kms. It is like take off, turn around and land.

I do have a private garage in hand(NR garage). Will go to them if the issue reappears.

Thank you for the recommendation. A wonderful place it is. We cleared the code and went for a spirited drive. The code is yet to come back. The advise was not to bother about the code, till there is some tell-tale sign. I am going to do the same.
