yes, this is perfectly ok. Civic dashboard lights operates for two profiles; daytime and night time. When you switch on the headlights, it activates the night mode, which is relatively dimmer than the other.
You can adjust this brightness level using the +- button on the dashboard as well

Keep checking the oil level , as long there is no leakage or motor whine it should be fine.Mine is a bit hard too but that is because i have upsized tyres.

Here's the estimate (quote) of my damages from H.S.S. for the 'D' light blinking:
(This is after they have dismantled the gear+tranny)

01. 22544-RPC-003(Clutch Low) Disk Clutch - 6 pcs - Rs. 3540

17. 16722-RNA-A01 Hose Comp - Fuel Feed - 1 pc - Rs. 1278

Labour and VAT are extra. All prices above are multiplied with units required (For example, clutch discs are 590 per piece). I have personally checked these parts after HSS has dismantled and except clutch discs can't make sense of any other part stupid:

Gave them a go ahead for the replacement. They have started to procure the parts and ETA is 10 days.

Had an interesting experience yesterday. I was driving to Lucknow, and it the rumble strip at the Toll point, the exhaust just came out of the rearmost hook. So after the rattle and an abortive attempt to put it back, I drove to a puncture wallah and had him put it back. The hook had a locking knob at the end - very interesting, as to how it happened.

Buddy the total comes out to around 60K without labor and vat i suppose.I hope it all works out well for you after the repair.

Good Luck.

Hey Buddy,

Did you eventually get the problem sorted. Myself I have a 2008 MT and for the last week I have been hearing this growling sort of noise. As with yours mine is also sounding at about 2000 RPM/60Kmph. Any advice would be very much appreciates before I get fleeced by my not so reputable HASS.

- Anything more than 2000, it disappears.
- RPM less than 2000, it disappears.
- This happens only when the AC is on.
- Without the AC the car is completely smooth and silent.

I read somewhere that it could be the serpentine belt but that doesn't seem to be the reason as it comes on only with the AC on. The SA at Magnum Honda also asked me to get the belt replaced. I got it checked with an independent garage run by a friend and he said it cannot be the belt and should be the AC clutch that is gone.

I am confused now. Any ideas? Anyone faced this problem?

That is one hefty repair bill. Are they willing to give a guarantee that your problem will be solved after this? Good luck mate!

I have an issue with the window controls. The switch for the passenger side window seems to be jammed. Apparently, this has caused the motor on the window to heat up and finally fail. The magnets on the motor are stuck to the coil. A new motor is about 9K (something i did not expect).

Has anyone seen similar failures? apparently there was a recall on a few City models because of a similar issue.

Hi, If you keep the brigthness of the Instrument cluster on maximum, then it will not dim while switching on the headlights.

Rgds

My passenger side window got stuck in the same manner with only the passenger side switch on the driver's side board feeling stuck when pulled up. I sensed that this can cause motor damage and did not take the car to work. Brought home a small mechanic (whom i know for 8 years), he opened the plastic with a screw driver, opened the plastic circuit board inside, adjusted the switch and placed it back. And voila! The window came back to life. Honda told it would cost upward of 3k without assessing. The mechanic asked for 'kharcha paani'....I gave 100 Rs. note, he gave 50 back :D

Car has clocked 85000 today and needs servicing. Honda told they will do a 'major' service, which got me scared. What is their major service and how much should 85k service normally cost?

- Car needs regular service - Oil, Filters replacement
- My brakes are fine (haven't checked them physically but they work fine)
- Suspension was ok ok, but became acceptable with new tyres, no don't see that being touched
- Got injector cleaning done on last service

A few questions I always wanted answers on from experts here:
- I do not know when Clutch overhauling is required? Does it depend on Kms, like a 100,000 kms or something
- What would change at 100,000 kms, do i need to get certain things changed like spark plugs etc? (what is average life of the 4 spark plugs in civic?)
- What about brakes? When to change the brake pad and the disc? If they look used but feel perfect, still we change them as a precaution?

Switching OFF power window lock switch should have been enough. No ?

Dear Mukesh, yes you are right, I had put this to off till I reached home from the place where I discovered the fault firstly. But a second thought crossed that what if the motor is constantly functioning due to switch malfunction....then this would not have helped. In that case, I chose to be on the safe side and left the car off till error is rectified.

Guys,

As mentioned on my earlier post (#4582), i too have developed a sort of a noise that comes up when I cruise at about 50-70Kmph @ ~2000rpm. Its sort of a slight growling/grinding noise that I cannot exactly place where it emanated from. Took it to my local garage, who seemed rather intelligible last time around. The person held the car in his garage for a good few hours and said the sound has disappeared then on. Unfortunately for me, i went on a TD with him in the car, and alas the sound still persists. After him sitting in all the other places in the car (sans the drivers and the boot), he reckons it could be from a faulty bearing on the rear.

He says I could continue driving for another few thousand Kms before it needs any looking into, or probably he can look into it when i bring the car over for a service in another 2500Kms. Have any of you veteran have faced anything similar; or have any suggestion on what to do next.

FYI: The car is a 2008 sMT, with 63400 on the clock. The most recent services were done at ~61000 by the said mechanic and ~55000 by Sundaram HASS.
