It is most likely a 0w20 oil with acea c5

Given that Mahindra refuses to specify any alternate spec, your safest bet would be to use this same oil and change every say 6-7k km.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

My Safari Storme needs 7.5L of oil 15W-40 API CI+

Visited couple of Shell petrol stations and I was told put Helix HX7 or HX5 which have API CF rating. One of the outlet said Remula R4 is not available anymore.

Any pro/con of using API CF oil?

Thanks

CI4 and higher are sold as truck / tata ace oils, buy those eg castrol crb turbomax etc

Don’t go to shell pumps; find an engine oil store or order on Amazon so you don’t have to buy the oil at MRP

Thank you for prompt reply!

I found Castrol CRB mini truck 10W 30 API CK4 oil on Amazon, any harm in switching from 15W 40 to 10W 30 oil?
Downside is I will have to buy 9L oil but my SUV needs 7.5L of oil.

No harm at all. You can use the rest of the oil for your next change. 1.5 litres left so buy two 3 litre cans next time.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Hi,

My 2015 Elite i20, Asta CRDi needs an oil change.
I am planning to use : Castrol MAGNATEC Diesel 15W-40 - Engine Oil (5L Pack) - Synthetic Technology, API SP, ACEA A3/B4, Dualock Technology for Petrol/CNG and Diesel Cars.
I was looking for a confirmation, this will work as my car is BS4 and 2015 Mfg.

Nothing wrong with it, it will work just fine but there are 5w40 (and 5w30) a3b4 oils that are similarly priced and of somewhat better quality.

Shell HX8 for example.

Thanks, found the shell, will use the same. Shell Helix HX8 5W-30 API SN/CF, ACEA A3/B4 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil for Cars (5 L)

Recently checked out a few stores and some cans are in 3.5L / 4 L cans which was a surprise.
The Elite i20 CRDi uses 4.5 L, IIRC.
The car does 7000 km a year and I was looking for options which are not over the top and will instead change oil once in 7k kms/12 months.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

What a thread! Just stumbled across this as I'm looking to change our BS6 Ph2 Seltos Diesel 6AT oil at the 5k interval, mainly due to the factor of oil dilution in BS6 diesel engines. Two questions:

1. Is it a good idea to replace the oil at every 5k interval keeping potential oil dilution in mind?
2. What is the best available option we should go for (outside of Kia ASS)?

Thank you.

Thanks, showing only 1 available with a 3.5L can, which will not suffice.
Will try to source, else the Shell should do fine, I hope.

Re: All about diesel engine oils

As I recall Seltos bs6 has a 0w20 acea c5 which is a particularly thin oil, but also required for some modern engines.

If you need to stick to 0w20 then pick one that additionally has vw508/509 compliance.

There is a castrol edge M that you will find if you search vw508 castrol on Amazon. https://amzn.in/d/2oK75gH

Else source vw / audi etc oem oil

Re: All about diesel engine oils

Please suggest a good synthetic oil(5W40) for our Swift VDi(Type II) vehicle.

I am not getting the Mobil Delvac 1 as easily as before, so would like to try something else this time.

Go for the Shell HX8 5w/30 i use the same in the same car. That grade is what is recommended as per the manual as well.

Do not use 15w/40.

It takes 5.3L (dry fill) but when changing the oil and filter, i have found that 5L is the perfect amount, as it lines up perfectly with the top line on the dipstick.

Go for a 5L can, its available on Amazon itself.

Thank you very much for your response.

If you were to suggest a thicker oil, which one would it be? And is it always a synthetic oil that is used for these modern diesel engines?
