Even small bumps/holes seem to flow right up through the steering along with vibrations. I mentioned this to MASS during my latest service but I don't find improvements. The service attendant suggested that the front tyres be switched with the back, which he did.
Is something wrong with the tyres or the suspension? Do I need to change the tyres?
The car has run about 39,000 Kms.
If you feel this more through the steering (you can check this by taking your hands off the steering temporarily while going over an uneven patch and observing whether the sensation is reduced) then you might want to check the ball joints on the steering rack. They might be worn out.

Try adjusting the steering damper, a correct setting would do wonders.

Can you please elaborate a little more on this? Can this be done DIY? What exactly is the procedure?

The picture attached shows the steering damper unit which needs adjusting.
Refer the thread on the subject which throws more light on the matter.http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...it-solved.html

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

I am not sure if this is the right thread to post my query, but posting it here because the car in question is an Alto. Today, my son accidentally spilled about 800 ml of water from a 1-liter Bisleri bottle on the floor behind the diver's seat. I managed to dry the carpet using news paper, cloth, and the heat from a 200-watt bulb. The top portion of the carpet looks completely dry now, but I am not sure about the condion underneath the carpet. I am concerned that if there is some moisture there, it may lead to rust formation. Just parking the car under sun for a day would be fine or is there anything else that can be done?

Its hardly an issue. Just be cool and let it dry naturally.

I am not sure this is too much to bother about. Since that area on the metal is not open, it will probably not be too prone to rust. However, if you are really serious about getting it dry, then water seeped under the carpet onto metal will most likely not dry out under the sun. In that case, take off the carpet in that area and dry it by hand.

Normally that would be enough and there will be no issues, but since it is raining at Bangalore, I feel it would be better to use a hair dryer for the job.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

In the first year of ownership of my K10, water has entered through a partially opened door and flooded the rear portion during monsoons. I just wiped the water and left a few newspapers for a couple of days.

I am not sure of Alto, but the M800 had a well painted floor with drain holes stopped with rubber bungs. At every service they would take the carpet out, unplug the drains and wash the interior of the car. After drying with a cloth the carper was put back, and that was it. Of course the car had rexine seats so the seats were safe.

In general in modern cars the floor is well protected both inside and outside from rust, so dry the car out and hang the carpets to get rid of any residual damp.

Hello Sada,

I think its not much of an issue. Most metal sheets come painted from the factory itself, hence you don't need to worry. Just make sure that you dry the carpet well, else with monsoons around & the moisture in the air, it will lead to a foul smell.
Don't worry about rusting. The internals of the car normally do not take any beating, hence the paint does not comes off like the underbody, which may need frequent application of paint.

Regards,
Saket

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

Thank you all for your replies. Just checked the car which was parked in shade all day at home and there was no moisture on the carpet and no smell in the car. Looks like my efforts yesterday have dried the carpet nicely and it felt completely dry from top.

gpa, in page 27 of this thread, you have stated that you removed the carpet and dried it. It would be helpful if you give a small description on how to remove the carpet; would like to give it a try sometime if it is a simple procedure! If anybody else is aware about this procedure, please share it as it may be helpful to others as well.

re: Maruti Alto - Issues

Can anyone guide me on how to fix the fuel gauge on my 2006 Alto Lx?
It has stopped reporting since last 1 month. I have checked the meter by grounding the line going underneath the rear seat but the needle works fine. I suspect some issue in the fuel sender.
I checked with my workshop but they say I need to replace the whole fuel pump as the sender is clubbed with the pump. The whole set costs around Rs. 4,000/- which is way too high for just fixing a gauge.

Check the float mechanism and wiring in the sending unit. I think that the wiring of the sending unit might be at fault.

My car had a similar problem and the MSM people just replaced the sending unit. It is NOT clubbed with the fuel pump. Cost was Rs 450.00 plus labour. Car was hoisted up and the fuel tank dismantled, it's top was opened to replace the sending unit, closed, fuel tank installed back and car driven out in about an hour. I think I paid about Rs 700.00 or so in total.

The sending unit is common for Alto and Wagon-R.

Can anyone confirm if it is required to change pump also along with gauge? I thought both were not connected.
