Thank god for extended warranty.
Sorry to hear the news swanand.
Looks like the dsg ghost is back, second dsg failure on the forum this month.
Are they going to replace the whole gearbox or few major components in it ?

Keep us posted about the progress.

Edit: So it's the dual clutch failure, here as well.

Not good to hear that SI; what happens after warranty? I mean what are the kind of costs involved?

Holy Moly..!
This DSG shame of Skoda is never ending!

Instead, why didnt they recall the cars and rectify the issue whenever it first came to light?

Sad to know of your troubles mate. Keep us updated.

re: Black Lightning: My Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI DSG-UPDATE: DSG box replaced!

Very very sad to note this Swanand. DSG is a serious issue with Skoda Cars especially since yours is a July 2010 make and we were told that they have sorted out this issue post 2010, but apparently it isn't so. Also we have one 2011 Laura also reporting a similar issue.

People seriously need to stay away from these DSG's and make a hue and cry as obviously Skoda seems to be sweeping this issue below the carpet.

Do keep us posted on the the results.

And here I thought that DSG woes are behind us with the seeming reliability of the latest set of transmissions. Sorry to hear that your Superb has been grounded, but at least you're covered by the warranty. What once you're out of it though? The cost must be phenomenally high!

WIP I hope Swanand. I was wondering if it is possible to post some pictures of the parts that have arrived and while they are being fitted. It would be pretty helpful.

Also, once you receive your car, please scan and put up a copy of the bill given by Europa so that we know what has been replaced and for how much.

WIP still! As usual, Skoda takes their own sweet time to get the car done.
Only saving grace is, the taxi charges that they have readily agreed to pay (for being an esteemed customer of Skoda! Yeah, right).

The parts have arrived, the work is going on, Dad is irate and Skoda is as usual tight lipped about the infamous DSG issue.

Thats all I can update as of now.

Sad to hear that the ghost has invaded your gear box too.

Is this problem more common during summer time (when the ambient temperature heats up the gearbox further)?
Was the car always kept in neutral while it was stopped at signals etc. by the driver?
Please write to Skoda about this so that they can offer more warranty on the gearbox for all customers.

Hi Swanand, any updates on the status of your car? I know you bought your car pre-owned, but what was its month and year of manufacture? Was it within the 2 year warranty period? Alternately, if this is being repaired under the extended warranty, was the extended warranty taken at the time of purchase or were you able to wrangle one subsequently.

Hi Hayek,
The car has come home as of last evening. Yes, i had got the car pre-owned. The VIN decode shows that the car is a July 2010 manufactured car. Yes, the extended warranty was taken when the previous owner had bought the car itself.

Dev, the car came home last evening. Actually, they had repaired the car last week, however, the gearbox didnt function as it should, so they had kept the car and changed the whole gearbox itself!
So, yeah, now my car sports a new gearbox too .

Total expenditure incurred: NIL (extended warranty).
In fact, to keep my dad happy, they threw in a free servicing (monsoon check) while delivering the car back.

Now the problem is solved, and the car runs fine. Just that, the entire episode has left a bitter taste, which honestly, Europa tried their best to get rid of.

Great to hear that SI!
You havent answered by question about actual costs if not under warranty. Do they not let you know how much it would cost?
Good to hear Europa did this, but dont let them off the hook so easily. It will help you next time if you sulk a bit longer

Re: Black Lightning: My Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI DSG-UPDATE: DSG box replaced!

^Thanks Bala. The actual cost of the entire gearbox is around 1.xx lacs! So yeah, extended warranty should be taken with eyes closed, if and when buying DSG enabled cars!

Im quite sure that Dad's pestering, and a few other factors played a role in Europa doing what they did.

That is good news Swanand, and Europa did what best they could IMO.

2 questions. Did they tell you what parts were replaced and if so, can you put up a scanned copy of the bill they gave you?
Secondly, what is the warranty on this replaced GB?

Good to know your car is back to normal. As far as I remember the 1.xx lacs is for the mechatronic module only. The entire gearbox is around 4.xx lacs.
