Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

My sister scrached my door on a pillar while I was away to India. Kind of really hurts bad but after awhile you learn to live with it. I cant tell how bad it is. But if neighbourgh is paying for it , why not?

Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Got another quote from a local mechanic for $350 but he told he wont be able to get the finish of the showroom. So i am going to get this done.

Also 7400 miles done so tomorrow going in for the second service and wheel allignment. Also fix some niggles like some minor noise from within the cabin. The sun roof looks to be up making some noise. Got to get this fixed.

Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Service 2: Went in for the second service. Regular was oil change and filter change.

I had them do Allignment and Balancing. At 7600 miles it was off. Good that i had it checked. Now the ride is better.

Next week i am going to give it to the body shop to get the scratch fixed. WTH my neighbor is going to pay so i rather get it done than do a shoddy job. I also will be getting my sun roof checked.

While i was there i saw the 2013 Genesis! OMG it looks gorgeous

Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

That's one amazing looking car.
Congrats, it must feel great to own one like that.
I never even knew hyundai manufactured such cars till few hours back.
I am totally sold out to it.
It looks amazing in grey and those sweet wheels.
Keep posting more and more pictures.
AZ at the background adds to the feel of the car I guess.

Do get the scratches fixed or they get doubled in time and the botheration becomes halved with time.
And your neighbor will be really careful the next time.
Keep the thread going.

The first pic was some serious car porn. Wow amazing car sir. Congratulations on going with what the heart decided

My eyes have been on the Genesis coupe ever since it was first shown on the tv series Burn Notice. Boy oh boy Hyundai have really outdone themselves with this car, havent they?!

Still wishing these beauties start to get sold in India. Also one should see the new Fluidic Tucson which is available in Bhutan. That was lovely one too. At the price you got the car sir its just amazing.

On the mods part have you thought about doing a matte black paintjob? That would look killer. May you continue to have more smile filled miles with this beauty.

Cheers!!
P.s please post some more pics sir something like the first pic in the thread. Currently set it as my wallpaper

Thanks. That was one of my favorite serial man. Have to watch the current season though. No mods planned as of now. Will take one things at a time.

A coupe is difficult to sell in india the same way convertibles are impossible. Cost and inability to seat more than 2 comfortably is a problem.

Hey Maddy! How's the genie treating you bud? I have my first year service coming up soon. Have a feel irritants like a peeling steering wheel , squeaking seat and a strange whirling sound when I let go of accelerator. Maybe a bearing? I maybe want to do an alignment as well. Do you know the settings? They tell me that after 20k Kms I have to pay for one?

Overall I am extremely happy. The stares at lights makes it worth it

Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Raj: Thanks for the update. I had the 10k service done recently but have noticed the avg mpg dropped to 16.2 after that. Maybe as my friends been driving it and she is right leg heavy or pedal to metal kinda driver.

I had some squeaks coming from the sun roof but it magically disappeared. I need to give it for a all round polish in my next service.

Get your car checked. Drop it with a long list and make them work. Hope they do it right. Did you do any long drives? Am planning on a 600 mile journey this month. So lets see how that goes.

Re: Trials and Tribulations of a first time buyer - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

hey Maddy,

Just did my 36,000 KM service(ok was really an oil change). Dealer suggested doing a throttle body and brake service. Did you get any of those done? Hows the car treating you?

We had some serious snow this year and I tell you, slap on some winter shoes on this baby and she is as sure footed as a mountain goat. I am just so happy with her.

First Car in the US: GC 2.0T Premium or GT (or Track) ?

[Long Post Alert]
Hi Guys,

I landed in the US last week and plan to buy a GC. In my office there are
2 of these already but haven't had a chance to talk to the owners. I will be
using this car for office commute and long trips and if it works out probably take it to Track someday too.

Now, i used to drive a i10 AT in India and only other cars i have driven are Vento and Fiesta both MT so i dont really know what that push-you-in-the-seat feeling is (ACTransit buses do give a hint of it sometimes). I do not intend to drag race or drive it with a heavy foot but do expect the car to put a smile on my face once in a while. The other reason i am considering GC is that it has a decent boot space and a partially usable rear seat (compared to Subaru BRZ which IMO looks better than GC but has only 60% of boot space). The only other car i considered was a Mustang but because of its dated looks gave it a pass. But i must say Mustang is a Mustang, the goonda among cars. Between every traffic stop i always see at least one mustang in here.

Now few of you already own a GC and wanted to know what is it to drive and live with one ? I wanted your feedback from a everyday driver perspective and not only from pure performance reasons. For me quick acceleration matters much more than top whack and reliability over gas mileage.

Taking these factors in consideration please let me know if 2.0T Premium should be good enough (Dealer quoting 27.5K) or should i go for GT (30K) or Track (33K). From a monthly payment p.o.v the 6k spread does not look a deterrent but i am not sure if i really need those extra features. Plus there is this debate on I4-Turbo v/s V6. I am not sure what engine will be more reliable ? I will be taking a test ride of these models too but honestly i think your experience and inputs will have a 70% weight in my buying decision than what i can find out in few miles of TD.

Hi shubham

I have had the car for 2 years now and it's still a pleasure to drive. I use it as a daily drive and its a pretty good car. I have the base 2.0 model and it comes with 18" wheels. The ride is bearable for long distance. IMHO if you take the track or gt they have stiffer suspensions and 19" wheels. The handling improves but the ride gets more tiring. You will feel every ripple in the road. Not the best for long distance.

As far as 2.0 versus v6. I noticed that it pushes the pricing to another level for v6 where I could get a better car. The 2.0 is sufficient and the new models have more HP. Also the 2.0 is a modders dream. You could do alot of upgrades to imqprove HP.

The car is a different league than the stag. It has better handling than the stag. Again the price point plays a role. The genesis is a lot of car for the money.

For a daily drive fun car it's great! It's got additional seats than the Nissan 370. It has better interiors than the Subaru brz. It's cheaper and more value than other cars in its league. If I had to spend more I would probably look at other options.

Hi Raj,

Thanks for the reply. I agree with you that GC gives more value than others in the range. What other options come into your mind ? Q60 is way pricy at 40+ any other car you have in your mind ?

Few come to mind. Infiniti g37. Used boxster, m3. Wrx. If I could stretch my budget and didn't need rear seats I would be looking at the boxster very seriously. I feel a few constrains sometime transporting baggage or slightly bigger items. Most time it's sufficies but I believe the boxster isn't as generous.

If you are willing to look at the 30k+ price range, there are the 1 series coupes. If you don't plant to keep the car past the orignial+extended warranty period, that is an option as well.

Also, the rear seats of the BRZ are almost completely unusable.
