October 20, 2012 - IIIrd free service - 14917 Kms
TB II was 83 Kms short of 15k and due for its 3rd free service. Had tried Koncept, NOIDA twice earlier and thought why not try Sterling, GGN this time. Called up their service center on 18th & booked the truck for 19th & was told to bring the vehicle at 9am.
Wheeled in the truck at dot 9 in the ASC. The SA allotted to me was Ravinder & 15 minutes later he came with the job card. Inspected the vehicle from inside & outside, checked under the hood & also the boot. He asked me if anything specific was to be done since in this service nothing was to be replaced & only inspected. I had issues with headlight focussing & propellor shaft and also with the front torsion bar. This was duly noted & I asked him to change all fluids & filters. No questions asked & no answers given. Funnily Ravinder didn't push for any underbody or teflon coating, engine flush etc.
Truck was wheeled in and after almost two hours it was driven in the bay & work started. By 1.30 all the jobs were completed when lunch was declared. Only alignment & washing was left.
I too went out to grab some food. When I came back the truck was not in the bay. It had been taken for headlight focussing. And then disaster struck.
Sometime earlier it appears that the vehicle got automatically locked by the security system and the mechanic opened the door with the key instead of the remote. This was a breach of the security system and I got a message on my mobile that the vehicle is being tampered with. I ignored and that was a big mistake. After sending this message, the security system disables the ECU. The car wouldn't start since the ignition wouldn't switch on. They pushed the vehicle into the bay again and started opening up the ignition checking the wiring. I had not known this. When I looked into the garage area from the lounge I saw 3 or 4 mechanics going all over my vehicle. A bit alarmed, I made my way to the garage floor. They apprised me of the problem and then brought a new ignition unit to check. That too wouldn't work. I had totally forgotten about that message on the mobile. After more than an hour was wasted checking for a fault, I suddenly remembered and literally kicked my self.
Reset the system from my mobile and all lights came back.

Vehicle started and the HLs were focussed and the car sent to the washing bay.
TB II was finally handed over to me at 5 pm while it could've been delivered two hours earlier but for my mistake. Paid the requisite amount, showed the gate pass and zoomed out. The truck felt lighter & peppier. I know it is psychological but still....
