For some reason, pre-owned cars in Bangalore have a premium over Mumbai (or any other city for that matter).

There is simple but roundabout way to compare fuel economy of two cars.

4th gen Honda CRV 2.4L AWD AT has an ARAI fuel economy of 13 kmpl. MG Astor AT has ARAI FE of 14.8 kmpl. That is, Astor AT is 13% higher fuel economy than CR-V 2.4L AWD AT, under standard test conditions.

Now if CRV gives 6 kmpl in Bangalore rush hour traffic, Astor AT will probably give 13% higher FE under exact same driving conditions (6.8 kmpl). Mahindra XUV 700/Thar petrol AT too have an ARAI FE of 13 kmpl, just like this CRV. So under the exact same conditions, XUV700/Thar petrol AT too is likely to give around 6 kmpl.

This is not exact science but you will get a rough idea, by just comparing ARAI FE of 2 cars. If you have 2 cars at home, check the ARAI FE percentage difference first and do some fuel economy testing under similar traffic conditions. It should more or less match the percentage difference.

Re: Driven : 4th-gen Honda CR-V (2013)

Congratulations on the CRV. Having owned one in the past, can vouch for the fact that this car is one of the most sorted machines I've ever driven (mine was the 2.4L AWD with 5 speed TC).

Curious though on your research on the aftermarket support availability here in terms of parts. I remember reading somewhere that part availability was a challenge and could cost an arm and a leg.

I was super keen (on some level, I still am) to pick one of these beauties, but was scared away by the aftermarket issues I mentioned above. Would love to know your thoughts on this.

He has some experience in sourcing difficult to find parts, since he also owns 2012 Honda Accord 2.4L AT.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ml#post5427279 (Pre-worshipped car of the week : Used Honda Accord V6)

For eg, to source rubber seals for Accord's windows, he contacted somebody over internet whose only business is to buy old cars and sell it for parts.

If you intend to buy this, it is best to have another car at home. In your case, don't sell off your 3rd gen Honda City.

Congratulations to your brother on getting the CR-V SmartCat.

Considering this is a fairly old car, was the CVT gearbox fluid ever replaced, or are there any plans on doing the same?
OT: Couldn’t forget to see another (smart)cat. Hope all cats are enjoying their new cat tree. :-)

This is a 5 speed torque convertor unit, probably the same one on 2008 to 2013 Honda Accord. Perhaps international CR-V had CVT.

The CRV had the 5 speed TC till 2014. It moved to the CVT from the 2015 models.

If the budget can be stretched, the good old Innova or the recent Hycross is also a great option.

Congratulations to your brother. I have this car brought new since 2014. Done close to 56k.

Very reliable, very safe and you can take it anywhere be it Taj or the farm house or be it a crowded market.

Couple of points:
1. Tell your brother to use a light foot, he will see the fuel efficiency go to 8-9. And 13-14 on the highway with cruise control maybe even 15 driven at 80 on cruise as that’s the speed limit in Mumbai highways.

2. Parts can be sourced from Honda they still have them but accessories are difficult, I’m searching for roof rails and OEM car cover but unable to find.

3. Those tyres are a bad idea as they’re responsible for that bad fuel economy plus damage to suspension. Change to OEM size and Michelin that’s the best set up.

4. The car seems to have a aftermarket head unit as 2.4 either had a non screen or a touch screen with steering mounted controls for phone pick up and drop.

5. The rear seat has a recline 2 options. It’s next to the headrest.

Can you take a photo of the backseat recline control? We tried pulling all levers, and it seems to flip either the backseat or the headrest.
