For that matter, even an accent crdi can beat 1.6.

Didnt get ya. The 0-100 timings of Accent crdi are 15 secs and Ikon 1.6 is 12.83 secs. How can accent CRDI beat IKON 1.6

On the road you do not race 0-100. What matters is how fast you can go from 80-120 in fifth gear. In a torquey diesel you will be able to do 80-120 much much faster than a petrol.
Look up the 40-100 in 5th gear figures of any petrol car and a similarly powered diesel car, the diesel will be twice as quick.
In the real world what matter is in gear acceleration, how many times do you redline in each gear?

exactly what I meant as TSK described. When on the run, diesels are extremely quick in the gears. I was racing an Accent GLS modified with what not under the hood and it just could not beat me:)

Btw, i keep reading conflicting view of the 0-100 timings of Accent CRDI. Some mags describe it as fast as 12x seconds. Fiesta D as 18 secs. I think this is correct because there is quite some difference in 0-100 figures between CRDI and Fiesta D. Anybody knows the accurate figures?

OK got the point TSK. Though i would redline in almost every gear, if and only if the racing mode is turned on. Though mostly i slot the 5th gear at 50kmph on highway :)

Accurate figures for 0-100 for CRDI is 15 secs and fiesta 17.XX secs. If its 12.xx it puts SKODA 1.9 TDi to shame lol:

Here driving skills plays a vital role... if there is a race between CRDI and ikon 1.6 i guess.

If i am in a racing mood yes i will readline in each gear.

Once in bangalore-mysore highway accent crdi guy tried to race me but couldn't and was only able to tailgate me...

Whats the big deal with putting Skoda to shame? The Accent weighs a tad less then the Octy and has 82bhp(as opposed to 90bhp of the Octy) and 19kgm as opposed to 21kgm, so i would believe the Accent CRDi does a sub 13secs 100 for sure.

BUSA accent does in 15 secs and it has been mentioned in so many magazines and even BS motoring says the same. Even a Corsa 1.4 beats Accent crdi in 0-100.

Lighter doesnt means it wins at 0-100 other factors also matters.

well i dont know about these timings but when i floor the acc in my optra magnum most of the cars seem to dissappear in the rvm

Abhibh, looks like you would like driving your point home. Please have a look at this link where it clearly says it reaches a 100kmph in 13.21 secs
HYUNDAI ACCENT VIVA CRDi

This article also throws some light on what TSK had earlier mentioned, its quite informative.

On a lighter note, the testers of other magazines that you mention may not be such good driverslol: .

Now lets rest the case, it is proven that CRDI does 0-100 in 13.21 secs:Cheering:

Hi Abhibh,

Please check the following link..you have been quoting BS Motoring and this link is from their website. It says Accent CRDI does 0-100 in 12.57 Seconds.

Maruti Esteem diesel vs Hyundai Accent CRDi - Business Standard Motoring

Hope this clears some doubts

Hey Badri, thanks for the link. So i was right from the beginning that CRDI does it in 12.x secs.

@Abhibh, hope we are aligned now:)

lol mobike008 man we are always alinged.. Its just that i read in some magazine test FORD FIESTA TDCi vz Accent CRDi that accent 0-100 was 15 secs and fords 17...

Well this really shows that none of the magazines figures are correct. 13.21 and 12.57 almost 1 sec difference in timing. this sks

sorry:

Thats 0.64 sec not 0.24 sec :D

Why are many of you comparing a turbocharged diesel to a normally aspirated petrol car. If you want to compare a turbo diesel compare it to a petrol car with a turbo with similar boost and then we could get a truer picture about the in gear acceleration of both the cars. Diesels I agree do have more torque but in India its got to do more with CRDI technology using turbo chargers. If diesel were the panacea for in gear acceleration then without doubt the EVO and the Impreza's would have had a diesel diet. If you want a legitimate comparison for in gear acceleration of the two fuels then compare the normally aspirated :Frustratiindica diesel and petrol.
Bye and wear your seat belts.
