Hey Sahil

Congrats on the two beemers.

40lacs OTR is a really good deal for the 520d. Hope you enjoy that too. Expect a full blown review soon.

Well the 25 sec trick got me intrigued, and I read up some more on it. I found out that there is no 'reset' going on per se, it's just that the gearshift computer senses the full application of the throttle for a long period of time, and accordingly puts the gearbox into sports mode. The BMW service engineers also say that it's a fake trick.

The tranny is self adaptive and resets itself EVERY time the car is switched on, ready to adjust to the current driver (or his mood ).

Just so you know.

Cheers

Sahil, just went through GTO's F10 review and saw the pic with your beauty and remembered this thread.

I think you mention that your car is nearing the 50k mark, looking forward to an update with pics!

I'll put up an update once the car is done with the major 50k service. Still around 4000kms to go.

Since the Fortuner has come, it has taken over the BMW's spot as the highway runner hence it hasn't clocked the KMS like it used to earlier.

Too bad we didn't have the time to take your 525d for a spin the other night. Hopefully sometime soon. She may have clocked 50,000 kms, yet looks a year old (tops). Very well maintained machine.

BTW, guess whats the first Indian match for BMW 525d Review:

Thanks for letting me put a link to the F10 review in the opening post of this thread.

520d- 1.5years - 10,000kms - First Service - Non BSI

The 520d went in for it's first service at Bavaria Motors Pune.

I have not opted for the BSI package on this car as it's sparingly used. Just clocked 10,000kms in 1.5years.

The service costed Rs.13,000 for regular oil and filter changes. Justified pricing considering the main cost was the expensive synthetic engine oil.

Only surprising bit is the difference in engine oil price charges at Navnit @ 1000rs liter and Bavaria @1500rs a liter. Also the filter is 200rs cheaper than Navnit's pricing. Although the difference is not large but BMW should maintain a uniform pricing.
I even remember this being a concern when the rear windshield of my car cracked and the replacement cost at Navnit was almost upto 25% cheaper than Infinity.

Re: BMW 525d - Initial Review & 23,000 kms / 13 months Report (page 5)

Hi Sahil, Thanks a lot for sharing this post. A very similar thing happened to a friend’s car last night. It's a 525D 2009. The cars run about 45,000kms. We were driving in Bandra back towards Juhu and then we jumped a speed bump at Bandstand. As soon as that happened, the iDrive started warning us and the car started pulling heavily towards the left. We stopped the car and got out to check the problem and saw that the left tyre had turned outward from the top at an angle. But we could still drive it and decided to drive it to Saifee Tyre (Santacruz) and get it checked first thing in the morning.

In the morning, we took the car there and he told us that this was surely a mechanical issue and had nothing to do with the alignment or the balancing. Now the thing is that this BMW is out of warranty. Even though yours is/was, do you have an estimate as to how much the left suspension repair would have cost you?
