Is this scenario possible ?
Crossed my mind too! Maybe the dealer genuinely did not want the car to be messed up.

(Mods: Few days back there was a '+Quote' button that enabled multiple quotes. Why is it missing?)

I requested for the keys to the (read ‘my’) car in the showroom to look at the chassis number under the bonnet or on the bottom of the 'B' pillar (hope my terminology is correct) on opening the front driver side door (another fact my friend had educated me on!) and again the same mumbo-jumbo of 'sold to another customer.'
Confidence of the executives in telling lies doubts integrity of dealer, got to be careful. Caveat Emptor

I am not sure whether this has been already discussed or not.

Does Dzire has more lagroom compare to Swift ?

Does Dzire come with a security alarm that goes off if someone opens the door with a different key?

Got it!

Took delivery of my Maruti Swift Dzire Vxi at 6PM on the evening of 8th April, 2008 at the promised time of delivery.

Had a pre-registration drive around in the morning as advised on this forum. Wonder what happens if there is an accident during this time. The 'red registration' board was not available on the vehicle. Please advice.

Had some issues on the paint job - on the metal below all the four doors the paint had multiple eruptions. However the executives claimed it was a 'matt finish(!)', showed similar stuff on the demo diesel dzire, claimed that all new Swifts also had it; the small eruption like stuff was apparently deliberately done and helps in keeping off the dust. Could not beleive a word of what they said (probably due to my limited knowledge) but the alternative was to stop the registration and wait for the next batch of DZires for which I did not have the time. Also according to the dealer the next batch was not going to be any different. Took pictures of the 'eruptions' on the demo car. Will post it soon.

My car has 'Registered' stickers slapped on the front and rear windscreens and I was told I could drive it around as I wished since the registration process in the RTO office was completed. I was also told that the registration number and number plates would be ready tomorrow (9th). The Insurance was done today (8th) morning before the visit to the RTO office with the engine and chassis number alone. Apparently the registration number will be endorsed later on. I seriously dont remember the process in the previous two cars I had purchased as I got a friend to take care of everything then. Do let me know if anything is wrong.

Did about 30 Kms of mostly night driving.

1. The high beam is lower and if the low beam had been any lower the underside of my car would have had seriously bright illumination! Guess it needs to be adjusted later.

2. The horn is pretty loud on the inside. Any solution?

3. Got to rev much short of the 3k mark only - just beyond 2k would be more appropriate; seems loudish near 3k although the tacho redlines much higher. All the same the acceleration was quite good even within this power band and I did not feel any unexpected thrusts as in the diesel version with its turbo kicking in.

4. Definitely quieter than the diesel counterpart.

5. The integrated music system looks but does not sound cool. Guess some tinkering with the settings might improve it.

Cannibalisation in Swift family

My dealer tells me that as of today the waiting list for the Dzire petrol is more than one month and for the diesel version it is close to 3 months!

He also tells me that a few Swifts are readily available now. A few friends who had booked Swifts with an unknown waiting period have suddenly started getting calls from the dealers to take delivery of their Swift pronto. Apparently the small difference in price between the Swift and DZire has cannibalised the market share of the Swift and many customers have decided to migrate/ upgrade to DZire.

Is that bad news for Maruti?

Maybe the difference in cost will be more once the 'introductory price' of the DZire is withdrawn.

In God we trust, all others are suspects.
Thanks!

Yes, I have read up http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning...r-new-car.html

Also I am following the advice given in the Maruti manual.

Pls post some pics of this - a close-up. May be serious, pls get it resolved asap, while the paint is still wet .

Congrats on the new car. Do u mean the rough finish on the running board? If yes, then nothing to worry. Its done on all the swifts. My car has it.

Congrats on the car! Yes, the so called 'eruptions' in the lower body is designed to keep off dust (or other purposes). It is there in my SX4 too. But it have a thick plastic coating above the erruption (or matte finish ).
