I have met a AT owner in the parking and inquired about the mileage he is getting. He said that he is getting around 9-10 in the city driving conditions. I am wondering how come a auto transmission gear box reduces the mileage this much.

Is someone in your family using it as a learning to drive vehicle like in mine? FE seems on the lower end.
And, my handle out here is mobike and not mobile ( though both have something in common)
mobike008, Sorry for the typos. It is indeed kmpl and Mobike! Yes, we are expecting a baby, hence I have to drive the car very slowly while my wife is on board, due to very many speed breakers on the way to hospital. I am expecting the FE to be around 12 to 13 kmpl in city. Not too ambitious!!

Now my beauty is ready for the first service, thinking of sending her for the service aroun 1400-1450 kms. Will change the oil as suggested by Team-BHp.
Subbu, Thanks. That is awesome! We are basically from Chennai and now trying to settle down in Delhi!! I am aware of the nice roads that we have in TN. Please update on the first service and the response from the dealers for the engine oil change.

I have also spent close to 4 years in Delhi (2002-2006). Not all the roads in TN are good, I had a very stretch from Salem - Trichy, but still better roads then any other state. Delhi is quite a nice place to live, Please let me know in case you need help, I have lot of friends over there.

First service report

My beauty has completed 2000 kms now and she went for the first service on 19/12/2008.

Dealership experience was good and no hassles. I have changed the engine oil as suggested by Team-BHP.

Then I went to chennai for a meet with my friends and checked the mileage. I am getting 16-17 kmpl with 50% AC after the first service. Its mostly highways and I was doing consistently 100-110 km per hour. I wanted to test the top speed once, and pushed her hard. Went up to 140-145 km, but didnt push it further. I am sure that it can go further than that. At this speed, it was slightly scary, body roll was there. But the car is quite stable at 120-130 km per hour. I was doing this enthusiastic drive for 30-40 minutes and then switch back to my normal style of driving at 100 km per hour on highways.

Engine noise reduced much. I can feel the smoothness and improvement in the performance as well after the service and oil change.

Hey Jeevan, Your car looks great.

Please change the engine oil during the first service as Team-BHP recommends that.

Team-BHP recommends that you change your engine oil after the first 1,000 km. As with all new engines, you will find that some metal slivers have found their way into the oil. From this point onward you can stick to the manufacturer recommended intervals. - This is the reason, I want to change engine oil, though the manual recommends it after 10k kms.

Please refer this thread for more info: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/owning...r-new-car.html (ARTICLE: How to Run-In your new car)

I have a i10 Sportz Kappa and have done 7,000 kms till now. The mileage i have got has always been around 11.5 to 12.5 kms/lt purely for city driving with minimal A/C. The highway fuel efficiency has been around 16kms/lt.

I did not change the engine oil during first service. Any pointers to how i can improve the FE as the car is due for second service soon?

Thats exactly the expected mileage of i10 Kappa. Hence you are bang on target. However you can expect a slight improvement in mileage after the second service.

Avg FE is 11 kmpl after 1250kms

I have done 1250 kms in my Sports AT. After four refills at auto shutoff, the average FE has been found to be 11 kmpl with AC on 90% of the time & 2:1 city:hw drive. Min 9 and max 12 kmpl.

I could push it to 130 kmph on highway for a while and there was no problem whatsoever with respect to handling. Everything has been good until now, except the power windows were not working due to some loose connections in the driver side door panel. I took it to the dealer and the PDI guy had rectified it in no time.

The manual says that we have to maintain 33 to 35 psi but my sales consultant advised to keep 30 psi. Please let me know the appropriate pressure. We would be driving mostly in city with at least 2 persons on board most of the times and four persons on board sometimes.

Sending it for first service on 8th Jan. Should I insist for engine oil change? What else should I check and report to the service engineer? Your suggestions are welcome.

Hi All,

Finally my membership is approved and I can reply in this thread. Subbu, I am also a proud owner of an i10 electric red kappa version. Will post the images tonight. I would like to share my buying experience.

This is my first car and like any other first time buyers I was totally confused. I am a new driver too. With little knowledge about driving cars I took TDs of many cars. I rejected Spark as I felt its small for me. Getz a no no due to FE. Wife did not like the appearance of Palio, and according to her Indica vista is still an Indica and every one knows why we dont buy Indicas. Finally had 2 choices Swift LXI or i10 Magna 1.2. As my usage is around 10 Kms a day so I did not look at the diesel cars. I liked Swift a lot and I somehow felt its a very stable and responsive car, but my
wife rejected it straight away for its interirors and cramped back seats. Moreover I was a bit skeptical about the FE of Swift LXI. I checked out a used Ford Ikon too. But then decided not to buy an used car as I did not trust the used car seller.

On Dec 20th I just put a mail to Advaith and immediately one of their Guys Sunil called me and offered me to take to his showroom in Residency Road. I was really impressed as he came to my house in a santro and took me, my wife and my neighbours too in his car. We decided to buy Kappa Magna 1.2 but I thought if by paying approximately 20 K extra if I am getting the spoiler, Music system and adjustable head rest its worth a deal. ( But now I think otherwise).

We had a very good cup of tea then we headed towards the stock yard. From the outset my wife selected the Electric red due to the red and beige dual tone interirors and she refused to see any other colors. To our utter shock the salesman told that color is not there and he can not promise me when that will come. I could feel my wife's pain, but somehow made her understand that deep ocean blue is a good color and booked the same by paying 10K. He promised me to deliver the car on 27th. On 23rd when I called Sunil I requested him to check for the Electric red color and he said he can deliver me on 2nd Jan. We were just out of the world as we got the color. The bank formalities were smooth. We planned to celebrate our new year on 2nd as the car had to come on that day.

As I was not a confident driver I called up my cousin( who drives a silver color Verna) to pick it up and we reached the showroom at 6 Pm. The hyundai guys said they will deliver it by 6.45, that was nearly perfect. I was prepared even to receive the car the next day also by reading the horrible stories of delays and other troubles
but thank God mine was smooth. After seeing my vehicle my brother said something which amused me. His statement was " I am jealous of your car " and I could see a cute proud smile in my wife's face which expressed how correct she was while choosing the car. In the showroom we had a small puja and drove home straight.

Now the sad part. I did not get any freebies other than floor mats and Mud flaps. I got 4.5 K discount for the accessories and an insulting 1K corporate discount. In that way I was poor and scored 0/10. But I was happy after seeing the Red lady in front of me and quickly forgot the pain. I have added Remote Central Locking and done sunfilming by paying 7 K.

I am driving the car for last 10 days and covered 300 Kms. Once only I put 5th gear and mostly I drive in city traffic. I am a new learner and I did not go to these driving schools as the one near to my house is a known cheat. Gurus, Please help me in below points:
1. The clutch seems to be very tight, will it become ok after the 1st servicing ?
2. Having a slight problem in 2nd gear, will it become ok after the 1st servicing ?
3. I am getting a mileage of 10 Kmpl :( What to do ?

Life is beutiful after getting this car. My wife is attending the driving class
hopefully she will be driving it after a fortnight. Please bear with this long post and kindly comment on it as this is my first post. Thanks to all BHPians whose posts helped me in buying this beuty.

Thanks and Regards,
Sam_Boy

Bheemeshwari Trip in my i10 Sportz and FE update

Hi All,

I went for a trip to Kauvery fishing camp in Bheemeshwari which is near Mekadatu in my new i10 Kappa sportz. This place is around 120 Kms from Bangalore. I am jolting down my experience.

We planned this trip just one day before. We were 5 in number, 4 adults and a six months old baby. I was very excited as I wanted to take my red lady out of the city for the first time. We started at 8.30 AM from my house. (Actually we planned to start at 5.30, but what to do, my n my wife got up at 6.45). If any one of you are going to the place please note that keep enough water, biscuits and other eatables with you as in that place you dont get anything. We took the peripheral ring road and stopped at a small eat out place called Neeraja. Had breakfast and packed our lunch, but the food was not good. Then we reached Kanakpura and headed towards Satanur. The fishing camp is around 50 kms from Kanakpura. The road from Satanur was not great and it was a challenge for me to ride as it was quiete bumpy. As per the guidelines I did not exceed 65 Kmph but the other co-driver along with me occasionally crossed 80Kmph on good roads in the trip. The last part of the journey was in a ghat short of road and the vehicle can go down the hills if the driver looses his control. There is a Hanuman temple where the road is real steep and I had to cross that in the 1st gear. We stopped in the middle of the ghat and took few snaps. I am from Orissa and from a place which is also at a similar height, so I felt @home in that place. Then we moved towards the Kauvery fishing camp. Very few people were there despite of the Makara Sankranti holiday. We saw lot of people from villages doing some sort of picnic in that place and they were cooking their food. If you want to cook your food then everything is available in the Mekadatu village including the wood for the fire. After we saw the complete place in the car we searched a better place and parked the vehicle. The bed of the river was flat there and absolutely no one around. I immediately went into the water and stayed there for a good one hour. Please Please note that the level of the water can be deceiving and the water current is too fast, so its advisable not to be adventurous. You can see a number of fishes near your foot when you are inside the water and its a wonderful place if you like photography. The other guy with me had an amazing Nikon camera with high end lenses and he tried few tricks. I was happy with my Kodak V550 one. The sun was shining brightly and the bath was very enjoyable.

After that we laid a small carpet and had our lunch, took a small nap and started after half an hour. While returning the road was reall steep and there was a tractor infront of me which was traveling at a speed of 5KMPH. There was no chance of overtaking and I found it very hard to go in the road as the road was elevated around 60 degrees. but somehow I managed to travel in the 1st gear. Here I have a question, I saw the rpm never went high and I felt somehow the power of my vehicle is less as it was not giving me the immediate power when I needed. Is it due to the driving or the steep road ?? Please Gurus put some light into it. Then the drive till Kanakpura was kind of Ok and I travelled at the speed of 60 KMPH. From Kanakpura I forgot the route and took another road and reached Ramanagaram, do not ask me the condition of that road. It was much worse than pathetic. From Ramanagaram It was highway and no problems in reaching bangalore.

Now the FE part.

Total Distance covered : 250 Km

Distance travelled in City Limits: Approx 70 Km ( Mostly in 1-2-3 gears with occasional 4th)
Distance travelled in Ghat Roads: Approx 25 Km ( Mostly in 1-2 gear)
Distance travelled in bad roads: Approx 35 Km ( Mostly in 1-2-3 gears)
Rest on good roads and highways.

Petrol : 16.2 Liters ( Shell Unleaded)

Mileage: 15.4 Kmpl.

For the calculation, I filled my tank before starting and filled it again after coming in the same petrol pump. It drank 16.25 L Petrol.

The vehicle has done 550 Kms and the first servicing is yet to be done.
So what do you say is it good enough ?

I will suggest any one from Bangalore to go to the this place who wants to spend a day nicely. There is a jungle resort also so you can plan an overnight journey. But drive safely in the Ghat roads and drive slowly in the village areas as anytime a kid or a lady can come infront of your car. It happened not once but twice with me.

Do let me know the feedback on the post and kindly share your views.

Mods: This post may look like a jungle review, but I wanted to share my experience in the car as well as the place. Hope I am not breaking any rules of the thread and forum. Kindly approve.

Best Regards,
Sam_Boy

My i10 Era returned me my first tankful to tankful average of 15.99kmpl. I filled the tank with 27.39 litres with ODO reading 438.

The run mixture of city driving and highway drive, both around 50% with 100% AC on.

First servicing not yet done.

take care and drive safely
