@Akki_5 : How long is the waiting period on the 1.8 Petrol?
I just checked with a few Skoda dealerships to make a booking and they said 2-3 months !

Updates on ownership experience

Hey all, Sorry but the recession has been keeping me distracted from the finer things in life, such as posting in the thread. Some updates

As per users advice here, I now send my car to JMD Skoda in Nerul/Sanpada. Their service appears to be excellent so far.

The trunk lock spring (which does the soft pull-close action) went kaput 2 weeks ago. Called JMD for service. Insisted on free pickup/dropoff. They fixed the spring temporarily and ordered a replacement lock (not in stock). I just got a call from them a couple of days back- the lock has arrived and wil be replaced. Entire experience was FREE of cost, so I am happy.

The problem appears to be the hard slamming that the damned security guards do at security check points. I am a quiet person, but even I yelled at a couple for slamming the trunk like it was the door of a Padmini!

Other issues: Now confirmed that the Bluetooth is NOT factory fitted. Skoda factory bluetooth is not readily available, with the JMD Skoda guy telling me it can be bought in UK.

There is also an upgraded radio unit available in UK- with bluetooth, GPS, Hard drive (for maps and music!), and perhaps DVD as well. Its called the Columbus system.

Check out:

I wonder if one can find India Maps for the GPS? Its a pricey upgrade though.

PS: Sport mode (on the auto-box) is insane on the 1.8TSI! Heart thumping pickup... damn I wonder what the 3.6 V6 feels like!

Fuel economy shows 4.5 kmpl on the onboard computer. My driving is 40% city and 60% highway, and I do like the turbo whine

Cheers all.

Please follow the tankful to tankful method and update us. You should manage atleast 9 kpl. My C220 gives me 11.xx kpl in the city.

Smart move to JMD btw.

@BoringProf: I test drove the 1.8 Superb yesterday and I got to agree the Sports mode is pretty insane. You're post has be a little worried on the FE, mags claim 8kmpl while the showroom chap claims 11kmpl in city (obv not true)

Mostly likely to close the deal on a white 1.8 Superb tomo The new Accord fails to impress me, the Superb is too good a package in comparision. There is a 3 month waiting on the car but the JMD manager has been kind enough to source me one in 3 weeks time. I'm going against the tide but keeping my fingers crossed on Skoda service.

u gotta be kidding me! i bought a Laura instead of the Superb only because of the waiting period! (got a Laura in a week)
overdrive claims 10kpl in city and 14kpl on the highway. Autobahn guy told me 5-6 in city and 10-11 on highway
the sport on the Laura is awesome too!
btw all the best (am only worried because you are getting a car way sooner than the actual waiting?!?!)

its available in most new gen autos. it lets the engine stay in the same gear till a higher rpm before upshifts and downshifts quicker, in some cars even tightens the suspension. though in cars like the civic sports mode is for the paddles.

Congrats Sahil. Which color?
Engine-wengine apart; one of the best looking cars to my eyes.

The soft-touch boot lid just requires you to make even a light contact with the boot bay, then the motors take over. I'm sure you will have a very tough time explaining that to security guards no doubt.

ARAI figures for fuel economy are 13.5 kmpl - if you are getting 4.5, something can't be right here.

Sport mode is there in all AT Civics. And it does the same thing you mention. You need to press a paddle to activate manual shifting. If you don't do that, the box shifts higher up and holds gears when you let go of the accelerator, so you are always in the power band, unlike the normal mode which upshifts to the highest possible gear when you stop doing pedal to metal.

Shucks thats too bad ! Did you check with the JMD ?

I spoke with only the manager at JMD and assured him payment ASAP in return he assured me delivery by August first week. They have no stock lying ready hence the new truckload which they will get by Aug 1st or so will have fresh stock. I am skeptical on his commitment too, but I got a confirmation of Aug 5th delivery in writing over e-mail by him, so if anything goes wrong with the dates I will hang him

On the downside I didn't get much color choice, had to choose between white and silver. Settled for white as the BMW is silver already.

Hey Sahil congrats for the wise decission.I have got the 2.0tdi superb from JMD thane, they promised me the same way they promised you but the fact is they dont stand by their commitment, even if you have it in writing.I had booked the petrol one in Rosso brunello color, the loan was disbursed but since they dint have stock I went for the diesel.Anyways the wait is worth the time. Also check with JMD Thane with Poonam Khurana-9867551858,she was very kind and quite helpful.
