Hey congrats for the beautiful acquisition. I happened to see as many as 6 on the road between kurla & bandra in half an hour ( 2 in black , 2 in metallic blue , 1 in red & 1 was silver )and the car is stunning no doubt about it......

When i raised voice he said will come in today to office and fix it but nothing happened till now. Still not even given me the Manual :(

Couple of thing I need to know of this beauty.
  • I have fitted an accessory to automatically close the windows on locking the car. Will this effect the warranty in anyway?
  • Which mudflaps to go for, nothing available with dealer now..
  • What is the right pressure for the tyres...
  • Which car cover will fit this. The one for the small car doesnt fit this properly..
Here is a snap of it.. This snap is on July 2nd. Now with the sunfilm on it looks more stunner..

Will add more snaps shortly...

The main problem i am getting with this is the turning radius. U-turns in bangalore are not just simple for this one..
I took this one for a Mysore ride and once i pushed it hard to see how much it can climb. Once it touched 130 then it started sounding as if i was driving in 2nd or 3rd gear and accelerating too much. There was enough throttle left but with the sound i felt i would damage the engine if i increase more. I dont know if this is normal but my Innova was not behaving the same though..
The handling and braking is just superb. While i was returning i almost had an accident when a tractor came on wrong side on the highway while i was overtaking a bus from the left at night. i braked hard and rocked it to the right but the car was in absolute control and with zero screeching or skidding; even no-one on board was thrown aside.
The other issue is the ground clearance, no rather the front bumper.. In a bumpy road I didnt slow it much and the front bumper touched down scratching it bad..
I can vote for the build quality as a maruti 800 hit my GP when it was parked and i heard a thud and the plastic bumper on the 800 cracked but mine had nothing but the 800 plastic stuck on my paint..
My Blue and Me works too good except for the messages, it always says no messages. Mine is an N73.
I have clocked 1000km but my per hundred average is showing 11.6(city and highway mixed.)
As lots complained this does give a lag in performance but its just not true and the fact is u need to understand when to change gears..
the registration issue was common all over india. the transport commissioner is supposed to issue a certificate authorising registrations. the trans com was confused about something. hence the delay.

as regards warranty issues, hopefully you wont have any problems, but best not to tamper with the electricals as wrong wire skinning or wrong wire cutting can lead to serious problems..

for mudflaps u can try out partsworld-uk.com or ebay.com OE mudflaps of Punto are listed for as less as Rs. 650/-

31-33 psi is the right pressure for the tyres depending on the level of comfort you expect.

try a size B car cover. the same one which is used for swifts. available at car accessory shops for about 1100/-

as regards the tough build quality i can vouch for it. when my dads scorpio brushed against my linea it had a small dent and a small patch of paint had gone. just thinking back if the sx4 was in its place i would have had to replace the door!!

On the highway also, keep the foot away from the throttle when you don't need acceleration. The more often you take your right foot off the pedal, the more fuel efficiency you would get. I can pretty much race from every low speed caused sometimes on highway to 90 Kmph and still get a mileage of 22 Kmpl easily. If I don't race to 90 Kmph, I can easily get 25 Kmpl on highway. The instantaneous consumption is a very good input for us to learn a given engine.
Thanks a lot opendro !! Your observation about keeping rpm above 1100 is bang on !! I am being extremely light footed (although somtimes I do stamp on the accelerator and use all the torque when I am in the mood to flaunt around). The current FE I am getting in city is 17.8 km/l. I am hoping it will improve even more in the days to come (Current mileage reading is 800 km)

Just an observation : When the display is set to instantaneous consumption : the figure does not cross 50.0 km/l. I observe this when I am on the highway, car is in 5th gear and I take off my foot from the accelerator. The instantaneous consumption figures goes up rapidly but stops at 50 km/l (Not that I am unhappy with it )

amogh, wow what a stunning colour and truely stands out 1 in all, i believe blue and red are the most eye catcher colours on punto, Blue onfirst priority for me, keep updating your thread and ownership reports and hope your car serves you perfectly.
Manjo, congrats on your GP ownership, looking forward to your review thread as well, registeration process is almost same around country, with few cities bit faster and dealers more active then others, else same scenario.Keep updating and enjoy her ride.

I got the number plates affixed yesterday evening atlast...
The guy was very pleading and regretted getting late, so dont feel that bad about the Concorde service.
One small observation last night. It was raining heavily last night and the wiper didnt feel effective enough, the water wudnt swipe off fast enough as my Innova ones did.. (maybe just stupid observation of me..) and the lights are not that powered, needs to upgrade it but the fog lights was good to see the potholes..

Can u send me the link please, searched but didnt get any..

my FE was 11.6 and now it has risen to 12.6 inspite of very careful driving...(Not always City drive)Please let me know what would be wrong... its very saddening.. Mine has clocked 1450km now.. Now will keep a close watch on the instantaneous mileage and see if i can improve more..
And bangalorians dont fill from the Madiwala HP pump, they always cheat. I got cheated for Rs. 100/- and so did my friend. When u ask him to fill for Rs.500/- he will first say he filled for 100/- and then fill the rest Rs.400/- infront of u but the Rs.100/- never is filled. I quarelled but in vain and i left threateining to use them but i guess it makes no difference to them.

FE Update

Hey Guys !!

My Punto is running in pretty smooth now and I have been able to achieve some decent fuel efficiency figures.

Attaching a couple of pictures of the onboard display. I have been consistently able to achieve a mileage of 18 km/lit. And this is entirely city driving. (See the "average speed" figure). I guess most of it has got to do with my driving style and the fact that I am used to driving diesel cars (Octy, Safari and Innova)

I have yet not hit the highway even though the car is close to completing 1000 kms (That is outright lame of me !!)

My dream is to achieve a mileage of 20 km/lit in the city Let's see if I am able to achieve it.

Will write a detailed review after I am able to have a decent highway drive. Hope that happens soon.

Amogh

18 kmpl itself is like a dream figure. You can give some lessons on driving diesel cars to everybody here Amogh.

Good going. Waiting for the highway experience from you.

Amogh, Thanks for helping me out with the queries the other day.

Looking at your FE figures, you must have a feather as your right foot. I am getting 13 odd in Bangalore traffic, with 100% AC and never switching off at signals etc.

Hi Amogh,,

18+ / Ltr is really great in city driving.

1- What was the AC usage %?
2- Are you the only person on board most of the times?

Regards,

Karim Bhai

Hi Vijay and Karim !!

The figures are with AC usage. I never drive the car with windows rolled down.

The fan speed is medium and temperature inside is set between 20 and 21 deg cel.

Max people on board are 2

The rear seat of the car has been used only twice till date

For me in Linea, the average speed is only 17 kmph.
So the mileage is dropped to 14kmpl in city with 100% Ac.
if the Average speed increases,i would definitely get a good FE.
So the FE depends on Speed too
