On 18th Feb, Thursday, I checked the beading on the rear door / B pillar and realised it's coming out quite easily. There were no rust spots anywhere. Yet.

I realised on Thursday afternoon that I would have to get out of town on Friday (my weekly off) which meant I would have to get this checked out after 8 days. I called the service advisor at Fortune Nerul at 3.30pm and he asked to get the car over for a check. I reached the service center at 4.30pm.

The technicians checked the beading and yanked it out. They showed me the inside part of the beading and there was definite rusting inside. The service advisor said 2 Linea's had the same issue as mine and that there is a metal rod inside the beading that rusts which results in rusting in the car. My car was safe. I was taken to the spares section and the guys were asked to see if the new beadings were in stock. Yes, they did have them in stock. Immediately the job card was made and the car was taken into the service bay. On my insistance they applied polish and paint protector on the B pillar and installed the new beadings. While this was being done, the fluid's and filters were checked and I was asked if I would like to get the air filter changed. This was done in the next few minutes. I was standing with my car through out and almost everyone from technicians to managerial level people kept asking me if things are going okay and to my satisfaction with the car.

I was out of the dealership by 6.30pm. On my way out both the designated Fiat service advisors saw me off and the other SA gave me his name and number and told me that in case Nagendra was not avaliable I should feel free to call him directly.

Yesterday, I got a follow up call from them and after I gave a good feedback, they told me that I would be getting a call from Tata tomorrow (Today) and asked if they can expect similar rankings (10/10) from me to Tata as well because the last time I had only given 8/10 to the service advisor and dealership. I told them not to worry about rankings this time as I was genuinely satisfied. Let's see if the call comes today but what gets cleared from this is that there is a threat looming over the dealerships that any slip up will be taken seriously by the manufacturer. The fact that they checked out on the last ranking given by me shows that there is a serious effort on part of the manufacturer through it's dealers to get things right for their customers and the pressure is being felt by the dealer's.

Surely there is a lot of background work going on and as a Fiat owner, I can see visible difference in the dealership's approach today as compared to July - August 2009 when I bought the Punto.

Hello Amit ,

Just bookmarked this URL to your POST which is well covered

To start with ...
I have a Blue 1.2 L Active since 30th Nov 09 ( wasan motors chembur)
I was constantly monitoring this thread because just like you i was picky to have a good Mill in front of me while i was behind a wheel.

Went ahead , settled in for this car .

Mine is not too much run , and Infact just closing 454 kms as of now

Since this is my very first Car and i am concerned about such issues
Can you let me know did u get the car serviced ???

As its been a while & want to verify if the service is dew ?
I was told ...the 1st service clocks up on first 3000 kms or 3 months after the delivery (which ever came up first)??? Do i really get my car to have a routine checkup/servicing , please suggest what needs to be done

I would like to bring to your notice that i am getting a mixed avg of 8-9 km/l at the moment and the thing which is worrying me is the Mileage ... is it supposed to give me this figures as default or am i expected to get better figures post 1st car-service

Please advise support Whats the Best Mileage achieved with a Punto 1.2
with the likes of DO's & DONT's ?

Fuel topped up @ 448 kms - xtrapremium from IOC bunk Vikhroli
I have just changed the pump , earlier was using BP - Speed

Planning for upgrading to Alloys wheels with Stock tyres - is it true that alloys cut down weight effectively and less drag on the tyres to enhance mileage overall - ??

FYI ... i have a light foot on the Gas ;-)

Awaiting response

Cheers

I believe the manual says that premium fuels should be avoided. What's the mileage with the normal petrol ?

You can take your car to the service centre if you have any problems and not necessarily wait for the first service. Fiat is also having free service camps all over India, not sure if it's already over in mumbai.

Alloys will cut down on weight - but in practical terms I don't think there will be any significant difference in mileage.

8.4 kmp/l with 1st service pending earlier it was 7.9 - 8.0 kmp/l on Speed
one of my friends advised me to use ioc xtra premium and i wanted to give it a try

Can any of you tell me whats the effective way of calculating fuel mileage with TANK FULL method ? how does it workout ? Is it anyways different to the one which the car shows up in car's display ?

Awaiting response

@torquey : most Punto owners have reported some difference in manual FE calculation and the one calculated by the car's computer. But it is 2-3% max (In my case manual is always higher)

First things first : Do not use Xtra Premium, Speed, Power Petrol. Stick to normal fuel

How to calculate FE by Tank Full method

1. Fill up the tank. Make sure the guy at the pump stops filling when the auto shut off comes into play (The "KHAT" sound)
2. Reset your "Trip A" meter to "ZERO" (Now don't touch "Trip A" till you go for refueling. You can use "Trip B")
3. Enjoy the car
4. When the fuel warning light comes on go to the bunk
5. Repeat Step 1
6. Note down how much fuel was added. (Again stop at the "KHAT" sound. Do not overfill)
7. Note your "Trip A" reading
8. Divide "Trip A" reading by the quantity of fuel added (from Step 6). You will get your FE by the tankful method.

Example:
You drive for 483 kms after refueling the car (Step 1, 2 & 3)
You add 35 litres of petrol after the low warning fuel light comes on. (Step 4,5,6)
Your FE = 483 / 35 = 13.80 km/lit (Step 7 & 8)

Hope this helps.

Many thanks Amogh for replying quickly . Ill figure out the trip A & B and work it out by your method via the manual / handbook for my 1.2 Active

I think i m touching just close to 600kms and the next refueling indicates @ after
384 kms .. I will stick to Normal Petrol from the Good Ol Bharat Petroleum Bunk likewise.

Just a quick thought i have gone past 3 months mark and clocked just under 600kms
is it significant to get my car go for its 1st service ? I had a horible time with Wasan motors Chembur where i got my car .. I dont have faith in them for its 1st service

Should i drop it to any other service centers within the city ...?
Likewise which will be the best FIAT service center's except for any of the wasan dealership chains... FYI ... I m located @ Vikhroli

Torquey, try Fortune Cars at Powai, I got my GP serviced from them and it was a good experience. They are opposite L&T Gate 7.

@amog : I read the manual and i could not find the trip B , which on the Manual states
"TripB ", available on multi functional display only

Mine is an Active variant so i think the trip 2 meter is omitted & i think i have just
One , Primary Trip

so what should i now do ? How is it going to work out now by the method you suggested earlier ..

Fyi .. odo says : 604 kms done , next refuel is @ 414 kms
I did check primary trip meter its for fuel economy : 11.3 km/l

Please advise support , awaiting response

Cheers
