I think that the every pass. car engine produced are not run on the Engine Dyno. Only one engine in a huge lot size are run on the engine dyno for checking the quality. The first time the engine gets fired is only on the car. Hence the recommendation from the Manufacturer to follow run-in process.
The engine gets smoother since the friction between the liners and piston rings reduces. Also the block is subjected temperature and pressure loading and the Valves gets smoother.

FIAT actually check one out of 10 engines. Both hot and cold tests.

My GP diesel has run around 5500kms now and i was observing the exact same thing this morning, At idle engine is very smooth even if the blower is at minimum only very trained ears can distinguish it from a petrol engine.

BUT at higher revs the NVH though much better than before remains BOOMY, and at speeds above 100 the car feels like its in 4th gear, Quite annoying for a otherwise very stable car.

wow !! thanks for the update amit !! And I find this all the more heartening since you did not go for oil change at the first service.

I will be observing closely now since my car is approaching 4000 kms.

OT : Amit, I really appreciate you sharing ALL the details of your Punto with us (the good and more importantly the bad ones too) This thread has now become an extremely useful source of information for potential Punto buyers. No wonder this is a 5 star thread. Keep up the good work.

Agreed! This is amongst the few threads, where I've set an instant notification Extremely informative!

Amit, I think with this new found refinement, u ought to take her out on the expressway again and fill us in with noise/refinement levels at higher revs, buddy

Wow, this is wonderful news - checked, verified and double checked for good measure. It is nice to know that the engine on being run in properly becomes refined and smooth.

Cheers,

Whoa, thats amazing FE you are getting and must really be enjoying it munching the miles as fast as possible. Is that a pure city driving FE or a city-highway mixed?
Error is 4.75%, its almost same for mine too but sometimes it differs by even 10%, what method you use? Fill to the brim or use auto cutoff? I tell him to round off sometimes so maybe it differs.

Werent you a bit late in the sunfilms department, sunfilms come with warranty (never knew that). I got 3M installed and was never told about warranties.
BTW, is installing sunfilms on front windshield legal and you wont get fined?

We also deserve a new photoshoot with the black tints all around on a red photo. Super hot. Saw a Red Punto with very dark tints and man she looked awesome. Couldnt stop admiring at her, gave a flash of lights (in afternoon) to the driver from my Linea and he replied back with a flash.

It's legal only.if you install 50 or 70 series.
But it's all depends on your Kakki walas in your town
if they need money, they will fine you for using sunfilms.

Hey Karthik, can you comment on the NVH levels in higher rpms in the Linea MJD, now that you should have crossed 5k kms?

You got the sunfilms done at Reliance Autoworld or the Vashi shop? How is the workmanship? Please do post the pics of The Red Hottie with Dark Shades

amit , do you have to press the clutch all the way to the floor to change gears ?

The clutch play is longish in the punto . When I was driving the TD vehicle, I changed gears without pressing the clutch fully maybe about 3/4ths - is this something OK to do or discouraged ?

As per the user manual, you must press the clutch fully to change the gear.
