Higher profile to suit Indian roads?

Wow this thread is the stuff of dreams! BTW, how much does the M5 cost in India? Bcoz I am sure the XF-R is M5 competition, whereas the XF is closer to a top end 5-series, only more expensive here.

@nipunkul: The top of the line 5 series isnt available here and I am sure it would be priced similarly if it was.

@psycho: The car is insane, but do tell me a bit about the rear seat in terms of comfort and space, specially in comparison to the A6 and 5 series.

Awesome looking car!!
We should give the credit and a huge applause to Ratan Tata and his company for bringing this car alongwith the Range Rover to India.

Yeah the XF-R does seem like a sensible buy; especially compared to the M5. But call me mad, I prefer the XF looks as opposed to the XF-R. The XF-R's double barrel exhausts don't look as attractive as that of the XF. I prefer the front air intakes with LED lights of the XF to the chrome finish of the XF-R. But dammmm, those 20 inch rims are hott on the XF-R.

I really have no problem with the higher profile tyres but those plain looking alloys are just fugly. The brochures show other optional rims for the the 18 inch wheels which look very good. But for some reason, Tata won't let you get them changed before getting them here saying its different for India. I don't quiet get that; We are paying for the Portfolio package in India with is just the same bought down from the UK as a CBU. How is not possible to change the tyres to what is advertised there?

For your last point, I would have had no problems getting them if I was buying it. But dad isn't comfortable doing anything like that. Didn't allow dark tints on my RS or the camry. For him, the law is the law. Sigh....

If the 550i were a CBU, sure. But if it were assembled here, it would be significantly cheaper.

The M5, being a CBU, comes to about 1.25 crores in Mumbai. (Atleast according to Autocar India)

Sorry about the earlier reply. I quoted the wrong member!

I'm about 6'1" and I found sitting at the back pretty comfortable. The A6 feels like it has more room but I had no complaints with the XF. Also, many reviews state that the low roof line of the XF might be a problem for the taller crowd but I had no issues with it. The A6 is roomier in this regard and feels less 'close' since it doesn't have a low coupe like roof line.

3 People behind is also comfortable. I really like the low seating position behind as well.

@Psycho: The fact that the A6 has more room is going to be a bummer. I was daydreaming of getting an XF at home, but with low seats and lesser space wrt the E class and A6, I doubt that dream will be fulfilled for a long time!

XF is something that can be bought only what one's heart says, something that would make every owner feel special about it. No doubt a JAG is a JAG. But, 30L is it justified? If looking for sheer beauty with brains this is the one. XFR for about a 10 million rupees is a lot of money and am sure there could be many more choices at that price, especially one that comes to my mind is Audi A8 W12 Quattro.

XF is a bit expensive IMO when compared to the E, the A6 and 5 series. But the XFR is really tempting considering it costs only 79 Lacs ex showroom Delhi. This is serious M3 category (with options like DCT, and advanced package).

Sadly the dealership network is not well established yet, which may force buyers reconsider for the XFR.

As it has already been pitted against the M5 in some international comparisons, do you guys think that some potential M3 buyers would opt for the XFR for its higher power, torque, luxury, comfort and the JAaaaag factor?

I know its like comparing apples to oranges, but still what do you guys think?

Wow. That's an amazing exquisite piece of machinery!! Makes the A6 look so bland. But I keep hearing the backseat isn't as spacious (headroom and legroom) as Merc E, BMW 5 or the Audi A6. Is that really true?

Good review @Psycho7.

To me at 79L its comparable to M3 and not M5 and if you want to spend 1cr on XFR then question arises why not R8

At the pricing that Tata has come up with for the beast. The car makes sense only to a hardcore Jag fan. Everyone will have options to explore and it will be only with heart that this car gets to private parking lot.

"Total Respect for the Cat"

I had this hilarious thought about two girls spotting a Jag and then commenting aloud. "Oh! My! Since when did PUMA get into the car business?"
