No matter what A8 sales will never be effected as it hardly sells. And coming to LWB versions of these cars I spoke to BMW India dealer development manager a month back during the F10 launch and he was like the problem with LWB cars is they are specifically made for the chinese markets and until they have enough volumes like China it is not viable enough for them to import kits from china. I don't know how MB and Audi work but thats the answer given from BMW.

Got some news for all Mercedes W212 E class owners. Looks like MB India have finally realized the problem of the passenger side OVRM and have started replacing them free of cost upon request. I got mine replaced yesterday at T&T Motors Okhla only after the After Sales Assistant called me regarding it. Mercedes Benz India have not officially publicized this fault and hence E class owners need to go the dealers and demand a free replacement.

Regards,
This must be due to the BMW F10 - 530d coming with Rear Seat Entertainment as standard.

Competition, I'm loving it !!

ecclipse78,

Yes it is due to the BMW 530d, but the problem is in the 530d my screens are embedded well into the seats, while Mercedes-Benz offers that option in the EU. the RSE package they have for India is not so well integrated, I am trying to find a picture for it, but if you have seen it on the ML / GL in India thats the kind of RSE they will have, which is from their Mercedes Accessory brochure unlike the made to order system which is much better integrated into the seat backs,

While it's a good move, I think for W212 to be competetive they need to add a lot more to it.

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

For all those that have gone in for this car but want more punch out of the engine (which is needed when up against the quicker BMW 530d), Auto Hangar Mumbai is duing some really impresive remapps. I speak from personal experience.

Heres the thread: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...ml#post2235647

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

Do not know if this has been posted but Mercedes-Benz has expanded the E-Class by adding the E63 AMG to the Indian official product line, the car is well priced and the best part is almost every option has been added as standard,

Secondly, In the next few weeks the entry level diesel will also be added which will be the E220 CDI to help them compete with the 520d / Audi A6 2.0TDI,

Lastly, it's also been a while since 3 year maintenance packages have been made available incase if anyone needed them,

No other information but it seems they are having a hard time now with the E-Class due to the arrival of the 5 / A6 and to add more value they might soon add panorama roof as standard but I am unable to give you a confirmed report and also on which models this will appear on,

Better yet they need to get 7G on all models, and add better multicontour seats and then throw in the AMG pack for free which currently is a priced option.

Regards,

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

I might be bit late to comment on this fantastic(Typical TBHP style) review. One fact, that I personally loved is the way the brakes were tested(cow crossing in the middle of the road), typical indian condition, I will check out if the MB simulator in Stuttgart has this feature. I guess everybody must be aware of it.
The E65/63 has the same 6.3 AMG supercharged engine correct? or now AMG is moving towards Bi-Turbo?

I thought mercedes were sticking to new numbering convention in increments of 50 so how come there will be a E220? Example C220 is now C250 and petrol is C200 CGI.

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

Alphakilo, there is no E65 and the E63 has now got the new 5.5L bi-turbo engine, and it has has now got a few minor interior upgrades like the gear stick which etc. Not exactly ground breaking but a little better looking, just wish it was again named as E55 AMG.

Vid6639,

They have moved to the new numbers but then considering the lower end has a few models which was not possible they still do have the 180 / 200 / 220 and even lower in the new A and B class.

Imagine anything below 200 being sold as 150 or 100

So basically the lowest diesel engine in india will be 220 and mid will be 250 and then 350 at the upper end.

Petrol will be 200 CGI & 350, cgi motor for the 350 is still not here expect it sometime early next year once they upgrade the S350 in india.

The C220 and C250cdi are different engines. The 220 is only there on the executive edition. The C230s engine remained the same and got rebadged as C250.

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

One tiny update for the E350 CDI and E350 You will soon be able to get these cars with a Panorama roof, few more additions are planned but main thing being the Panorama roof which will be standard on the high end models, so anyone here wanting to buy one can either wait few months or perhaps knock a good discount on the existing stock.

The dealer in Bangalore is claiming that Mercedes offers 3yrs unlimited mileage warranty in India at no extra cost. Can anyone please confirm? I thought Mercedes offers 2yrs std warranty.

re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

Great review!!
Seems like the quality is going back to how it used to be in the good old days. I don't really like how the front looks. I like the rear a lot more. Am I the only one that thinks the tail lamps are W124/W123 inspired?

Mashed the throttle and came to a stop? That worries me a little.
