re: Driven: The 2010 Mercedes E-Class (W212)

Photos of the refreshed E-Class were leaked a while ago, Mercedes has unveiled the official photos of the mid-sized luxury car.

After bringing in tech like PRE-SAFE and radar guided cruise control, they've combined both of those, a few more sensors and a couple of cameras too to create what is called Intelligent drive.
his facelifted E-Class will be making it to our shores sometime in mid-2013 with a brand new four-cylinder petrol engine in tow which makes 184 bhp in the E200 and 211 bhp in the E250.

All those pics are wrong man, These are pics of the outgoing e class, the new one has a single seamless light as compared to twin bulbs, also the gear lever has now gone up to the steering wheel, its not the center console mounted one.

I can not find the link to the new photos, will post soon.

These are the numbers on the E-Class according to the new "Merconomics" scheme:

The customer can choose a 3 years 0% interest scheme or a 7 years low EMI scheme. For the 7 year plan, there is a down payment of Rs 6 lakhs and an EMI of Rs 59,444.

Merconomics also offers a 1.5 lakh petro card on the C Class petrol.

The new E class should be out soon, so I think massive discounts should be available on the E class soon! Not sure how to attach the pics, but a google search will be an easy way to see it. Also, a very cute new A class is also likely to be launched in the 18 lac range

Autocar India on it's TV show last night claimed that MBIL is looking to launch the long wheel base version of the E class in India.
If this is true then kudos to them, I am sure it will revive the dwindling E-class sales and urge BMW and Audi to launch their rivals with a LWB version. Currently China is the only market that gets LWB versions of these Germans. MBIL will be making a bold move with this launch as it was feared to affect S-class sales however with the large price difference now I think there is a price band for the LBW to fit in.

Did MB ever offer the estate version of pre-facelift W212 in India? Saw a brown estate near KR Puram bridge in Bangalore today. Stood out in a sea of sedans and hatchbacks.

Sorry no pictures, I was driving alone on the opposite side.

Guys, have an E350 Maroon Apr 2011 fully loaded, on office lease. Expires Apr 2016 and will be at my option to buy it. Has run about a lakh kilometres. What all can be upgraded if I choose to buy it? Should I buy it at all?

A German which is 5 years old with no warranty and more than a lakh kilometers. Of course you don't buy it. Still, get the price and do your math.
Personally I wouldn't even think of going for it.

Any views on discounts possible for the E in Mumbai? Heard from some folks that upto 10L discount is on offer but initial discussions with dealers hasnt gotten me to that number yet.

Merc E-Class Cabriolet version spotted

First test mules of the new E-class Cabriolet have been spotted wearing heavy camouflage. The test mules seem to follow in the footsteps of the new E-class Coupe with much of the styling retained while the hard-top roof will make way for a folding soft-top.

The interior too is expected to carry forward from its hard-top siblings with the use of higher quality materials and dual 12.3-inch screens acting as the instrument cluster and infotainment display. Additionally, the car is expected to share most of its features with the standard sedan.

Need advice on tyre upgrade/change

Hi Folks,
I need some urgent advice on the tyre upgrade /change for my E 220 CDI sport. The stock tyre were continental 245/40 R18 which barely lasted 15k kms and I replaced them with Dunlop 245/40 R18.

Now after another 18k kms, the rear two tyres seem to have balded whilst the front two seem to still have life for another 10k kms (not sure why that would happen - all four tyres should age together!).

I am now confused on the below mentioned three options:
1. Replace all four tyres to 245/45/R18 or 245/50 R18 depending upon the fitment possible (the local tyre guy told me that both these options can be done)

2. Replace just the rear two tyres with the above two mentioned sizes and replace the front two post another 10k kms (not sure if that is advisable)

3. Replace the rear two tyres with the current tyre size 245/40 R18 and continue to be extra careful of not scrapping the underbody everytime I take the car on city drives.

I have been given to understand that 245/45 and 245/50 R18 would improve the ground clearance as well as life of the trye.. while I believe the ground clearance would improve , does the life of the tyre also improve?

lastly, pls guide me on the tyre brand I should go for basis your experience.

thanks a bunch and eagerly look forward to your reverts.
cheers
Sid
