My Proud Acquisition, Linea 1.4 E+

Its raining Lineas at Team-bhp and Punter’s multiplying in geometric progression. Now me too joining the family. Though I cant spark off anything unique with my ownership thread I am making a humble attempt. My sincere thanks to all T- bhpians who had helped me in fighting the battle with my old dealer .

I took the car from Hyson Motors, Thrissur. The car was already in stock, so no booking and troubles of waiting for weeks. As soon as the dealer guys smelled that I was interested, they sprang upon me, so obliging as they would give me the car for free. Readily the sales guy agreed on a Rs. 16,000 discount. I talked to the manager and negotiated the amount to Rs. 26,000 discount in cash. I reassured for myself a final word of commitment from the Manager regarding the discount and proceeded to the bank to change the DD since my earlier booking (Punto) was with another dealer.
I changed the DD and was getting ready to go to the dealer for making full payment. Now he started playing double standards, he was coming with newer versions to evade me of the discount. What followed was another fight, not much different from the one I waged against my older opponent RF Motors. But I grabbed the discount at last, Rs.20,000 cash discount + Free Extended Warranty.
Got the car delivered.
The dealer had already agreed to give mud flaps and floor mat as freebies. But alas no mud flap at last . The floor mat which he has supplied seems as it was used in his shop itself from its very beginning, the cheapest you can get from the market.
After dealing with two Tata-Fiat dealers I learned one good thing, the dealer staff everywhere consists of people who doesn’t have any commitment for the words they give, they are damn cool even if the customer leaves without purchasing the car. They also have a common motto, if a customer is going to benefit with a good deal, give him the maximum disturbance that one can.
Anyway I have erased all the pre-sales experience.

Now coming to my Linea. I have just started admiring her beauty, I don’t think I will be able to stop it in the near future.
Already veterans have made good contributions regarding the pros and cons of the car, so I am not repeating the same.
But I would like to mention some points which I noticed:

• Quality check standards of Fiat is below average. There are evident panel gaps. The rear ac vent cover of my car was detached when I saw it.
• Dashboard air vent adjustment mechanism and seat height adjustment lever seem so flimsy, I don’t think it has much life.
• Also I am facing another small issue. The clutch is not as smooth as I expected. The other Lineas and Puntos that I drove had a very smooth clutch. It was very light and had long travel, one could get the feel of the clutch only at the end. But in my car is not that smooth. The spring like feel of the clutch starts the moment you keep your leg on the pedal and there is a slight sound inside the bonnet when the pedal is pressed. I seek advice regarding this from other Petrol Linea owners, are such things common?

I am attaching a few snaps below:

Congrats GTX on your purchase. The thing that I like about you is that you've gotten over the sales experience and are ready to enjoy the car. That's positive thinking. And if your clutch is not smooth then get it checked ASAP, especially since you've compared it with other Lineas. The clutch is hydraulic and the brake fluid is used for the system- this is just for your knowledge.
And BTW that pic of the sidelights is just superb and very original. Looks like the corona rings found on the 5 series.

Congrats. Its looks gorgeous in the white gown. One of our Bhpian had painted the grills, I'm sure that looks adds some charisma to it.

I can vouch for the smooth clutch in my Punto. I think it's only your car.

There's no sound while pressing the clutch pedal, and the action starts almost from the top and it smoothly changes till the end (floor)- not like Alto's clutch which has all its action change in one particular point during the clutch travel - a few millimeters

Finally after all your tiffs with the dealers, it has finally arrived.

OT. Two fiats in one shot. Is that Palio yours too? Assuming it to be a GTX considering your username.
My GTX is a 007 too.

congrats on your new car. The linea looks very nice in white. You need to shoot videos using a hidden cam at these car dealerships and then forward the same to Fiat and probably a copy to manorama news.
