re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

I had to buy an NSC when I bought a bike (I was an out station guy then) but when I bought the car in 2010 they said that it was not required.

Now you got me confused

Lemme check with my bro if he had to pay anything for NSC while purchasing a bike in Chennai in 2012.

Cheers

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

infact this is the first time I'm hearing this NSC thing. We have registered 3 more vehicles before this and no sign of any NSC !! I guess this could be a way for the dealership to make sure that we save 2K from the extra discount which they gave

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Got to know from a close friend who works in Ford Manufacturing plant, that the new upgraded batch of Figos are ready. It might even come to us in 3 weeks.

As many had already predicted, it is more of a cosmetic changes like Head lamp and Tail lamp redesign. But good news is New colours

Organge (No I am talking about Nano here)
Medium Blue
Yellow (Guess for what ??)

You might get to see more Figo T-Boards from Q4 of 2012. Ford contemplating to release Figo for T Board, which was not possible till now

You will see more Ford taxis going forward.
Good in one way, like any road side mechanic can now help repair and source parts and become reliable with expertise.
Bad news - Too many on the road and taxi image

Off Topic - Ecosport launch delayed because of more issues during testing. Previously it was scheduled for Mar 2013 but now postponed to May.

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Found this on the web. Some changes indicated are:

1. Refreshed front headlights and refreshed tail-lights.
2. Radiator grill and the fog lamps
3. The interiors could also sport new fabric
4. Push button start and keyless entry

Let's see what finally arrives.

That image seems to be from a pre-launch prototype (see image from Wiki below)

Well I get around 11kpl in city and have managed to get 13kpl on highways. In city it is almost without AC, rarely i switch the AC in city. I am planning for my 3rd service shortly and after that i want to check the FE again. As I have recommended earlier and still will go for the 1.2 FIGO you will never regret it.

Definition of Facelift among indian auto industry:-
Changing the tail lamp cluster setup and introducing clear lense setup for the headlight is called facelift.

Ex from Alto and now in Figo

I just hope the interiors dont change much. Something full black/carbon finish wih chrome lines would make me think we bought a figo too hastily !!

Wrote to Ford India about the service centre experience and how they had failed to solve my problem. Got a prompt reply from them asking for all the details. After providing them with the same, they promised action ASAP. Sounded too good to be true.

Sure enough, within 2 hours got a call from the same service manager from Shreeji Ford requesting me to get the car to their service station for a thorough check up.

I took the car this morning to the service centre. The service manager wasn't around. Someone else attended to my car. Explained the problem to him. He drove around for almost a KM, found nothing wrong with the steering. I then asked for a TD of another FIGO at their service station just to explain the problem better. They got me a FIGO which had done 19k on the ODO. The steering felt limp, just like my car. That was reason enough for him to say, "Nothings wrong with your car sir, but we will check the alignment just to be sure."

When I told him I had tested a relatively newer FIGO in my building whose steering felt a lot more precise and 'weighted', got a blank stare.

I left the place knowing fully well the only problem they would find at the end of the day would be the alignment, which BTW I had gotten rectified from a leading alignment centre in Thane just last week.

End of the day, when I went to collect the car, was told the alignment was off . Was asked to take a TD of the car. Steering felt the same . Was told the car has been checked thoroughly by senior technicians and the only problem was with the alignment.

Aside from the fact that I'm back to square one with my steering issue, I wonder which one of the two hoodwinked me by telling my that my car has been aligned, the renowned alignment centre that charged Rs 800 for alignment and balancing or the FORD A.S.S. who did it FOC so that they could close this case.

Either way, I'm left with only one option, try another FORD A.S.S. (don't expect much from it though). Or else, just make peace with the steering which feels like the limp EPS from my previous car, the UVA (company car). Feels nervous at high speeds!

re: Review: 1st-gen Ford Figo (2010)

Got a call from my dealer (Cauvery ford, Mysore) inviting me to get a free checkup of my car.
The lady told that they are inspecting all the figos, specially from the 2010 batch, to check the power steering and the rear beam (or something which sounds close to that?)
Also mentioned that if a problem is found in those two parts, they will immediately replace it for free.

Has there been a general problem with those parts in the figos?
Anybody else got such a call?

Good to know that Ford ws prompt on responding to you & arranging for the checkup. However, it's sad to know that the ground level staff is essentially a non-chalant bunch whose key interest (in most cases) is to resolve issues by shifting the onus onto somebody else.

The issue w.r.t the explanation of your car steering's problem is that it can be termed subjective & thus, the SC as well as the company (Ford) may choose to not accept it as a problem. They may even label it as a faction of imagination on your part.
What I would probably try again is to coerce the SC manager or company technicians to drive a new Figo, could one of their test-drive cars. But it still depends on the moral integrity & honesty of the person testing your car.

Good luck & drive safe.

I am not aware of any problems with the rear beam etc but yes, there have been issues with the steering rack assembly of the Figos. A BHPian "desideep" has had his car's steering rack replaced twice, the second replacement being a recent incident.

@MorePower - Would suggest you to visit one of the reputed wheel balancing & alignment centers listed here Mumbai - Team-BHP

This seems the best bet.

Thanks

I have had my petrol Figo for over 2 years/16K kms. Checked mileage recently - I got 13kmpl out of a tankful, and this included:
- 250km highway driving, 80-100kmph, 100% A/C, one blast at 140kmph
- 300km city driving with 50% A/C, couple of Italian tune-ups.
