just took a test drive of K10.

its quite zippier than the current 800 cc alto, but i found it only a bit zippier than my modded alto(just the FFE and K&N).

Pick up with AC was way better than my alto, but without the AC i thought it has only a small marginal difference. but i think it will hit the top speed more quickly. i could test it only upto 80kmph.

i found the quality is plastic is lots better in my 2004 alto than the new ones.

the pricing : 3.64 lacs onroad

New Wagon R : Lxi : 3.80 lacs with all discounts

So does it make sense to buy a wagon R instead of alto ?

Yes, if you like tall-boy design and reconfigurable internal space.

No, if you want more zip and marginally better FE and are going to be driving alone most of the time. You can also mod the K10 and get better all round performance. K10 has bigger tyres which are tubeless compared to Alto800. The K10 Vxi has more goodies than the Wagon R Lxi.

A lower car will manage cross-winds better than higher car. For city commuting it does not matter.

K10 Black..... still waiting!!! :(

Hi All! This had started with a great joy and happiness but its turning out to be real agonizing time... as I have booked my K10 VXi (Black) on 19th Aug and guess what i am still waiting...... There are four major dealerships here in Ahmedabad, i have already seen couple of Black VXis on the road but some how my dealer whom i have booked with is quite 'Popular' ( ) in Ahmedabad (that was on the grounds of knowing the owner and the sales manager through a friend and a relative!)

I am still waiting, and tarikh pe tarikh (date after date!) are coming from them.... Today when i called the company's local office (Maruti Suzuki) here in Ahmedabad, i had to be very careful for not sounding like i was complaining but was just querying, as i thought it would piss the dealership and might just mess up more for me for the delivery or with the car too, and mind you as the same dealership had the sales manager being jailed for selling an old swift (or dzire!) to a customer, this was last year!!! So I ask my fellow team-bhpians ... has anyone booked Alto K10 VXi Black, last month and is still waiting???? Or am i the only one?

As per the booking amount receipt and the enthusiast sales executive, it was 8th September, as per them that was the maximum time it would take... I have repeatedly called thereafter to know what is the status...but in vain My patience is running thin!!!!

My friends has booked the car "Black Alto VXi" but the waiting period is 2 months. He was advised by the sale assistant to buy the LXi instead which they say would be on hand in 15 days, so it seems VXi is the preferred choice around India.

Ha ha ha,

It pays to be proactive. I went, I saw, I bought! On the day they had released and displayed the K10 Vxi. Though Delhi dealers had all colours between then, I bought the "burnt copper" as I found the black cars attract a lot of dust and thence street artists! As with practically every new car launch, especially MUL, there is always a rush to buy thus a waiting period. I think things will cool down within a couple of months, once MUL gears up to shift production from the slower selling models to fast selling ones.

@Sharpnish - Why dont you try buying from vadodara ? Try calling the dealer and ask him at what time will you be delivered if you are buying. If your wait is getting paid off why not cancel your booking from your city and buy from vadodara. I remember when i had been to one of the maruti dealers in my city i was told waiting period of 1.5-2 months. Whereas when i went to the other dealer i got my K10 on the 3rd day of booking !!

+1

Old is Gold!. New is no good - the current Alto (A Star) has few takers and going at a discount.

Hey,

It took me 1 week from booking to delivery of my Black alto K 10 Vxi. The dealership was willing to give it to me when i had gone for the test drive of the new car but i delayed the delivery by a week as i had lots of things to get removed from my old car before i gave it to maruti true value. ( i know the dealership owner personally, like family). i dont know what the status is right now but when i had got mine the dealer told me that there were not many black cars in the first lot that had come. but it has almost been a month. i think the dealer is making you wait, as there could be a premium being charged for early delivery. ( There was a person who had come to the dealership in the week i had before i took delivery of my car with cash and ready to pay the premium for the black alto k 10 but the sales guy could not give him that car as it had already been promised to me.) try checking with other dealers about the waiting period.

Have dragged my K10 with my 10-year-old Vx a couple of times - the K10 gamely keeps up staying just a car-length or two behind up to 90 Kmph, beyond that it drops away. My Vx's been "worked on" so it's not really a fair fight. Stock vs stock, I think the K10 would beat the Vx quite handsomely.

Same here, & my Vx is 10 years old Another thing is that the K10 appears to 'seal' less than the Vx - more of the outside world's heard inside the K10 compared to the Vx.

i Feel the new k 10 with a properly designed FFE and a couple of tweeks would be able to keep up with your tuned Vx 1.1. i think that the stock exhaust is quite restrictive and in the aim of having a high FE figure and to keep costs down some of the components of the engine don's let the car rev as freely as it should. i'll find out once i get a ffe and a couple of tweeks. i feel this platform has immense tunning potential.

MOds, Sorry about the multiple post

Yeah, the Alto is like quality wine. It had few takers when it was first brewed and now that it is well matured over the years, it has takers by the truckload.

Even in cricketing lingo, it is said that 'form is temporary but class is permanent'. While it may be down and almost out, the Maruti 800 along with the Alto and the Swift will, in my opinion, be the cars that would remain high in the annals of Maruti, with each of the three becoming a legend in their own way.

TD at kolkata

Went to Jalan (new Showroom at Teghoria) kolkata for a test drive on 26th September (Last sunday). They ar giving e 5k discount on both K10 LXi and Vxi (kolkata on road in jalan will be 3.60 for VXi and 3.47 for Lxi). Here are my 2 cents from the TD...

Engine
* at low RPM power delivery is similar to alto800cc (which I drive)
* U can feel the engine vibration in cabin (both steering and gearknob) but its still low compared to 800cc.
* as RPM goes above 2000 the power delivery is awosome specially in 3rd to 5th gear
* top speed attained 120kmph in quick time without even pushing the pedal hard. The car was still asking to be revved. assume the top speed will be 145+ (my 800cc has a top speed around 130kmph)
* when AC was switched on in congested road 3rd gear, one can feel the power drop if very careful, but thats only marginal. At higher RPM there is no visible power drop.

Break : similar to old 800cc or a bit harder

Gear : contrary to the MAG, I felt the gear to be way better 800cc and its more like swift. Short throw, and slots surely. but the gear is heavier than 800cc alto.

Suspension : high speed stability is better and the car does not seem like doing 120. at low speed similar to 800cc.

Steering : Light to start with at low speed...very easy to handle in congested road. weighs up as speeds increases but not fully confidence boosting. although not completely vague at speeds > 100kmph

Interior space : may be an inch more than 800cc alto. couple that with a trimmed seat back and it was possible to comfortably seat me (5'11"") and my friend (6'3"") back to back. (both sat in front and rear to test this).
NB: we could not sit comfortably in alto 800cc back to back.

Front Seats : no improvements...still taller drivers will lack the under theigh support.

Rear Seats : seat belt for 3 passengers

Plastic Quality and finish : plastic quality is same but the finish and panel gaps (specially glove box) has deteriorated.

upgrades : alloy wheels in exchange of stock steel wheels will cost Rs.17000 at maruti Jalan kolkata.
