Hi Friends,
Got my car - VW Polo 1.2 TL delivered on 11th Aug`10.
Thanks to Team-BHP for all necessary information about buying/owning/owners review which helped immensely in every aspect of my Car buying experience.
As it is only 2 days with not much KMs covered and also this is my First Car, I will be sharing the details till now not going much into the technicalities, mileage etc.
Shall keep on updating this thread as I cover more miles and discover new things in my car and request you to read this thread from an average Indian car buyer perspective and not from somebody with great knowledge of technicalities about cars.
I am not good at writing but shall try and share my experience in simple terms. Also, please note, any information about Polo mentioned here by me is purely my opinion about my car and not in comparison to any other car.
Search Begins
In Dec`09 planned to buy my first car.
Budget of Rs. 4.25L, car should be spacious, comfortable, easy to own/maintain, exterior looks not much of importance as long as I am happy sitting inside the car and finally FE.
At this stage, No idea about diesel/petrol and their differences - which I later came to know going through Team-BHP and those wonderful excel sheet calculations which at some point of time made me think for few days whether to go for Diesel or Petrol.
Had one car in mind so went to check out the Hyundai Getz. Came to know that this car is going to be discontinued soon, so in spite of good discounts and offers didn't opt for Getz. As this is going to be my first car so didn`t want to own something which is going to be discontinued.
Started browsing through the internet and came across Team-BHP. Going through Team-BHP for few days made me realize car buying is totally a different thing all-together and not as simple as I thought it to be. Started gathering knowledge in every aspect of cars - technical and non-technical.
In the mean-time came to know about new car launches scheduled in the next 6 months .i.e., Jan-Jun`10. Eagerly waited for the launches.
Finalizing
Jan`10 - BEAT was launched.
Feb`10 - POLO
March`10 - FIGO
Other available cars - i20, PUNTO among many other cars.
Test Driven all of these above mentioned cars in the Order - BEAT, FIGO, PUNTO, i20, POLO.
Luckily got the TD without any issues whatsoever for all these cars from whichever dealer I went to and few of the TDs were in different cities. As I wasn`t having any experience of owning a car so no benchmark while going for TD in terms of features/space/pickup/mileage etc. Atmost the benchmark is the previous car test driven, and finally ended-up liking ALL cars mentioned here.
Also, realized that no car can satisfy me in all aspect, so needed to decide which one I liked most and would be happy to drive and own.
By early April`10 TD and research was complete, All logic about maintenance, cost of ownership, initial budget became less important and did exactly the opposite and booked POLO 1.2 TL on 24th April`10.
Buying and Dealership
While booking, I was clearly told that expected delivery date would be July last week till 2nd week of Aug`10. No freebies, no discounts, 50K booking amount with option of full refund in case of cancellation and no free-service.
Didn`t call the dealership till mid June`10 once and then in July`10. During my inquiry about EDD of my car whenever I called VW Pune, I was always given the same date 02nd - 08th Aug`10 whoever picked up the phone - reception, SP, other staff, which gave me an impression that at least some kind of process is there so that everybody is talking about the same date.
Received 2 gifts from VW - paper polo and the magnetic dart board during these 3 months waiting period.
Going through Team-BHP came across many not so good incidents of delivery delays, dealer problems, being delivered old cars, court cases - all these made me more determined not to keep any loose end from myside and started educating myself going through the various forums in various aspects like Formalities while buying, Form-20, Invoicing of amount paid, Insurance, Loan application, VIN No., PDI, maintaining a car etc etc.
Also kept an eye on the few ownership threads started in Team-BHP for POLO and as time passed and these threads grew older and longer, made me happy in anticipation of owning a good quality car.
It was on 22nd July`10 exactly 3 months from booking, got a call from the dealer that my car has arrived with a request to make the remaining payment. Went to the dealership on SAT, 24th and made the remaining payment and applied for loan.
Everything happens at the 11th hour - In Maharashtra, especially in Pune RTO rules have changed since Apr`10 regarding registration of vehicles.
Anybody who is not a permanent residence of Pune and staying in a rented apartment or house need to submit the registered copy of the rent agreement(which in itself is a long and not so user friendly process) or need to do an affidavit from the local collector office of the rent agreement and submit to RTO through dealer and only then the vehicle would be registered.
My rent agreement expired on 21st July`10 (just one day before I got the call from dealer about my car reaching dealership) and need to make arrangements for all the above mentioned points quickly to get the car delivered. Finally done with new rent agreement with notarization and all required formalities to comply with new RTO rules by 30th July`10. During this entire process the Dealership Vidyut Motors was very helpful.
Because of these issues couldn't apply loan through SBI and finally applied through HDFC (again thanks to Team-BHP here for the guidance which helped me in getting a good deal) and the loan was approved and amount disbursed to the dealer in flat 2 working days.
Entire payment was done and requested the dealer for a PDI before the car is registered on my name. Went for the same on 03rd Aug`10, did the PDI (I mentioned this experience in other another thread and it was funny, I felt), everything was perfect and informed dealer to proceed with the registration and signed form20.
Now as everything has a good and bad side - if I consider the Bad thing to be all these formalities and 11th hour issues which delayed my car delivery by 7-8 days then the Good thing is now if I delay it by couple of more days then I can take the delivery of the car on my wife`s birthday.
Did exactly the same and took delivery of my first car VW POLO on WED, 11th Aug`10 morning on my wife`s birthday even though it was not at all in my plans.
I must mention here that I am very happy with the service of VW Pune. Staffs are courteous, polite and knowledgeable. Got help from them whenever required and there was no pushing from their side to sell unnecessary things and I would say quite open and transparent in their dealings with me. Hope this experience would be the same going forward.
Went to the showroom at 11am as planned, completed formalities, got all receipts/invoice/warranty, checked all accessories fitted and once again a look at everything in the car, gave some gift for the accessories executive and the person who was coordinating with me for my car, a small pooja was done at the dealership.
And the dealership arranged a small cake cutting ceremony for my wife`s birthday which came to me as a surprise and it was a good gesture I thought.
A very good and crisp demo of the car was given to me and finally the POLO is ALL MINE
